Lenovo Legion Y7000: At First Glance
Lenovo released lots of gaming laptops in 2019, including the Legion Y545 and the Y7000P. Also, the Lenovo Legion Y7000 was launched in the same year.
Despite having only a slight difference in their model number, the Y7000 model looks quite different from the Y7000P but more like the Legion Y540. Looks aside, the Lenovo Legion Y7000 is packed with powerful specs.
Therefore, it is not surprising that the Lenovo Legion Y7000 is quite pricey. Speaking of its price, this laptop sells for $1,699.00 as of February 2022 when I wrote this review.
But then, considering the steep price of this laptop, how much performance can it deliver? Well, why not see for yourself in the remaining sections of this article.

Lenovo Legion Y7000: Design, Dimension, and Weight
The Lenovo Legion Y7000 comes with a clean and glossy exterior. However, its exterior is not as attractive as the Lenovo IdeaPad Gaming 3i or the ASUS ROG Strix SCAR II.
To give more details, the Lenovo Legion Y7000’s chassis is all-plastic. This plastic chassis comes in a raven black color with a highly glossy finish that reflects light.
Although the chassis is plastic, it still looks solid and should give the laptop a respectable level of durability.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsAlso, to give this laptop a gaming-centric look, Lenovo has adorned the center of the lid with a grey-colored “Y” logo. This logo glows a bright red light when the laptop is on.
Meanwhile, the Legion Y7000’s lid is attached to the base with two tiny hinges. These hinges give the laptop’s lid a smooth movement so that you can open the lid with just one hand.
Also, the hinges can turn up to 180 degrees, allowing you to adjust the screen flat on a surface if you wish.
On opening this laptop’s lid, one of the first things that will get your attention is the laptop’s impressive 15.6-inch display. However, there are three display options for the Lenovo Legion Y7000.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Meanwhile, before we get into the display options and what they do differently, let’s talk about what they have in common. The three display options all have an FHD (1920 x 1080) resolution, making screen contents crisp and sharp.
In addition to the resolution, all the display options also use an IPS panel. Thanks to the IPS panel, images will always look clear no matter the angle you’re viewing the display from.
Having talked about what the display options have in common, let us proceed to their differences. The first display option offers a 144 Hz refresh rate, 72% color gamut, and 300 nits of screen brightness.
For better understanding, a display’s refresh rate refers to how many times per second it can redraw a new image. Furthermore, the higher the refresh rate value, the smoother and more realistic your games will play.
Free tools Windows power users keep installed
One-click scans. No signup required.
Therefore, a 144 Hz refresh rate implies that your eyes won’t notice any motion blur in racing or fast-motion games.
Also, a color gamut means the range of colors a monitor can display from all the colors our eyes can see. With up to 72% color gamut coverage, the Lenovo Legion Y7000’s can produce most colors accurately.
For the display brightness, 300 nits is a decent value which implies that you will have no trouble with display legibility when using the laptop in a bright environment.
Having explained the unique features of the first display option, let me proceed to the second. The second display option of the Lenovo Legion Y7000 has a 60 Hz refresh rate.
Similar to the first option, this one also covers 72% of the color gamut and with 300 nits brightness. However, what makes this one different from the first option is its slower refresh rate of 60 Hz.
Lastly, the third option offers a 60 Hz refresh rate, 45% color gamut, and a brightness of 250 nits. Hence, the third option is capable of displaying fewer colors, and it has a poorer screen brightness than the first two options.
As expected, the Lenovo Legion Y7000 model with the first display option will be more expensive than the two other options. Meanwhile, the third option will be the cheapest of the three options.
However, all the display options are not touchscreen-enabled.

Once again, Lenovo meets gamers’ expectations with narrow bezels on the Legion Y7000. However, this laptop’s HD webcam was placed at the center of the bottom bezel alongside a dual array microphone.

- Intel Core i9 14th Gen 14900HX 1.6GHz Processor, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5070 8GB GDDR7, 32GB DDR5-5600 RAM

- 15.1" WQXGA OLED Glossy Display
- Gigabit LAN, 2x2 WiFi 7 (802.11be), Bluetooth 5.4
- 4.19 lbs. (1.90 kg),Windows 11 Home
Probably, this explains why the bottom bezel is wider than the other three bezels.
No matter the reason, this location isn’t ideal for the webcam. That’s because the webcam will mainly capture the lower jaw rather than the whole face during video calls.
On a brighter note, our center of attraction is this laptop’s full-size keyboard with red backlighting. This keyboard gives you the best control over your game characters’ movement.
More impressively, this keyboard delivers 100% anti-ghosting, which implies that you can press multiple keys simultaneously. Additionally, the keys also deliver a decent key travel of 1.7mm.
By key travel, we mean how deep the keys go down when fully press, which affects the key’s feedback. So, with 1.7 mm key travel of the keyboard, the laptop should deliver an enjoyable typing experience.
Before we move away from the keyboard area, you will find the power button at the top-center of the keyboard. Thankfully, its position is well thought of, and the chances of pressing it while playing games are minimal.

This touchpad looks smooth and has two dedicated buttons that are hard to press in most cases.
Furthermore, with the touchpad, you’ll get Windows 10 gesture support in addition to regular mouse clicks and drag. As a result, you’ll be able to use two-finger scrolling and three-finger tabbing on it.
Moving on, the user-facing side of the bottom plate has two openings, one to the left and another to the right. These are where the laptop’s 2-Watts Harman stereo speakers are hidden.
As a means of improving the speakers’ sound performance, the Lenovo Legion Y7000 features Dolby Atmos sound technology which sweeps sounds all around you. This technology places each sound where it should be, so you know where specific game characters are coming from.
However, you’ll experience it better when you make use of headsets. Meanwhile, as a precaution, be careful with your volume settings to avoid damaging your eardrum.
Moving on, close to half of the bottom plate serves as a ventilation grill. These vents come from a plastic base with lots of perforations and a net-like covering.
As you know, heat is one of the significant challenges that every gaming laptop needs to handle. For this reason, Lenovo came up with what it calls the Legion Coldfront, which handles individual CPU and GPU cooling.
The Coldfront system comprises four thermal vents, dedicated heat syncs for a cooler keyboard, and 70 fan blades to reduce noise.

That said, let us now move to the back of the laptop, where we will see plenty of ports. There, you will see a charging port, one USB Type-C 3.1 port, and one USB Type-A 3.1 (Gen. 1) port.
Additionally, you will also find one HDMI 2.0 port, an Ethernet port, and a Mini Display port 1.4.
Impressively, you can connect up to three displays simultaneously with this laptop’s HDMI 2.0, Mini Display, and USB-C ports. Doing this will give you maximum immersion and control of your games.
Considering the number of ports I have mentioned, it is obvious to see that the Lenovo Legion Y7000 has plenty of ports. However, there are even still more ports on its sides.

However, before I get into that, it is worth noting that both competitors use the same core i7-8750H processor.
Thus, the Lenovo Legion Y730 scored 19,085 points in the multi-core test and 4,793 points in the single-core test. Also, the Dell G7 15 7588 scored 21,245 points in the multi-core test and 4,897 points in the single-core test.
In conclusion, the Lenovo Legion Y7000’s CPU is fast and powerful. It also outperformed two of its competitors in a benchmark test.
Therefore, I’ll conclude this CPU review section by rating the Lenovo Legion Y7000 a nine out of ten.
Lenovo Legion Y7000: Memory (RAM) Performance
The Lenovo Legion Y7000 has two slots for 2,666 MHz DDR4 RAM, yet, it ships with only 8 GB standard RAM capacity. For better performance, you can upgrade this laptop’s RAM to a maximum of 32 GB.
Nevertheless, with the standard 8 GB RAM on this laptop, it is a sufficient multitasking device. However, increasing the RAM capacity will increase the multitasking ability of the Legion Y7000.
Meanwhile, the Legion Y7000 model reviewed in this article ships with 16 GB RAM. With 16 GB of RAM, this laptop should open up to 30 Chrome tabs simultaneously.
In addition to that, the laptop can still stream an HD video on YouTube without lagging.
For more insight into the memory performance of this laptop, let me share its result on a PCMark 10 test performed by windowscentral.com. PCMark 10 is a benchmark test tool that evaluates the memory performance of a computer by simulating everyday tasks like word processing.
As expected, a high score in the PCMark 10 test translates to better performance.
Impressively, this laptop bagged a total of 4097 points in this test. This score is above that of the Lenovo Legion Y730 and Dell G7 15 7588, which scored 3,731 and 3,853 points respectively.
Considering all I have discussed in this section, I will rate the Lenovo Legion Y7000 a nine out of ten.

Lenovo Legion Y7000: Storage Options and Performance
The Lenovo Legion Y7000 comes in two storage options. Firstly, it can come with an HDD storage type that supports a maximum size of 2 TB.
Secondly, you can buy one with an SSD storage type which supports a maximum size of 512 GB.
As we all know, HDD storages are slower in speed but offer more storage space. Therefore, if you’re the type that keeps old games while installing new ones, the HDD storage will be good for you.
Contrarily, SSD storage types are the fastest so far but are more stingy in storage space. So, if you’re the type that deletes games immediately after playing, you can take advantage of the SSD’s speed.

At this point, let’s talk about this laptop’s performance in a CrystalDiskMark test performed by laptopmag.com. CrystalDiskMark is a benchmark that measures the read and writes speeds of a storage drive.
For better understanding, the read speed refers to the speed of opening the saved files on a computer’s storage. On the other hand, write speed refers to how fast files are saved on a storage drive.
Meanwhile, like every other benchmark test in this review, a high “MB/s” value from this test denotes better performance.
In the test, the Lenovo Legion Y7000 recorded a read speed of 3,493.5 MB/s and a write speed of 1,653.8 MB/s. Comparatively, the Lenovo Legion Y730 (also uses SSD) recorded a read speed of 3244.8 MB/s and a write speed of 1335.4 MB/s.
Therefore, the Lenovo Legion Y7000 has a faster read and write speed than the Lenovo Legion Y730. As a result, I will rate the laptop a nine out of ten in this storage review section.

Moreover, you can rest assured that the other GPU options of the Legion Y7000 will deliver better graphics performance.
In conclusion, the Legion Y7000 offers multiple GPU options, and the performance of the least GPU option is decent. Therefore, I will end this section by rating this laptop an eight out of ten.
Lenovo Legion Y7000: Battery Life and Performance
Battery life is an important issue for gaming laptops, and the Lenovo Legion Y7000 has got two battery options.
Specifically, this laptop runs on either a 57 WHr or 52.5 WHr battery. However, Lenovo did not mention how long the batteries last per charge.
Therefore, to get the battery life of the laptop, we will consider a battery rundown test conducted by laptopmedia.com. Moreover, for this test, the Lenovo Legion Y7000 with a 57 WHr battery was used.
Furthermore, the battery test involved adjusting the display’s brightness to 120 nits and browsing the web continuously until the battery drains out. At the end of the battery rundown test, the Legion Y7000 lasted approximately 6 hours before shutting down.
Comparatively, the Legion Y7000 outperformed the Legion Y540 15, which lasted for 2 and half hours in the same test.
This test result shows that the Lenovo Legion Y7000’s battery life is quite decent. Therefore, I will conclude this section by rating the laptop an eight out of ten.
