League of Legends’ major virtual bands are K/DA, True Damage, Pentakill, and HEARTSTEEL. Each recasts champions as performers in a separate alternate-universe music scene: K/DA leans into glossy pop, True Damage into hip-hop, Pentakill into theatrical metal, and HEARTSTEEL into pop and hip-hop-influenced boy-band music. Their songs and stories are official League projects, but they are not ordinary biographies of the champions in the main Runeterra setting.
What are League of Legends’ virtual bands?
They are fictional music acts built around alternate-universe versions of League champions. In Riot Records’ framing, the setting is an alternate Earth where champions are music artists. That premise lets the projects use familiar character designs and personalities while placing them in careers, groups, and music videos separate from the game’s main fantasy continuity.
The four major acts each have a recognizable musical and visual identity. K/DA uses pop-idol styling and choreography; True Damage presents a genre-blending international hip-hop collective; Pentakill turns champions into fantasy-metal stage personas; and HEARTSTEEL is a pop-forward ensemble with swagger and an emphasis on group chemistry. They are connected by the broad music universe, not by one shared, continuous band storyline.

Who is in each League virtual band?
The core rosters and a representative entry song for each act are summarized below. The song is a practical starting point, not a complete discography.
| Band | Members | Musical identity | Entry song | Story premise |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| K/DA | Ahri, Akali, Evelynn, Kai’Sa | Glossy pop with idol styling and choreography | “POP/STARS” | Established pop stars navigating public success and personal pressure |
| True Damage | Akali, Ekko, Qiyana, Senna, Yasuo | Hip-hop and rap-oriented, deliberately genre-blending | “GIANTS” | A collective recruited by Akali after K/DA’s worldwide success |
| Pentakill | Karthus, Kayle, Mordekaiser, Olaf, Sona, Viego, Yorick | Theatrical heavy metal | “Mortal Reminder” | Fantasy-metal stage personas within a rock-mythology presentation |
| HEARTSTEEL | Aphelios, Ezreal, K’Sante, Kayn, Sett, Yone | Pop and hip-hop-influenced boy-band music | “PARANOIA” | A newly introduced artist group entering a fictional real-world music scene |
Some projects have related characters or expanded rosters beyond the core names in this summary. Seraphine appears in the wider Riot Records music roster, while alternate-universe HEARTSTEEL material also uses Alune alongside Aphelios and Rhaast alongside Kayn. Pentakill’s represented lineup spans its documented roster and releases, including additions beyond the original touring-band concept.
What is K/DA, and what songs should I start with?
K/DA is the League music project most directly styled around pop-star spectacle: a polished idol image, choreography, and the pressures that come with public success. Its core performers are Ahri, Akali, Evelynn, and Kai’Sa. Seraphine is part of the broader Riot Records music roster, but she is not listed as one of K/DA’s four core members.

Later K/DA material includes “MORE,” “VILLAIN,” “DRUM GO DUM,” and “I’LL SHOW YOU.” Those titles give a newcomer several ways into the project beyond its best-known starting point, without requiring familiarity with the game’s champion biographies.
The story hook is the contrast between a successful public image and the personal demands behind it. K/DA’s fictional members are presented as established stars, so their music-world stories can center on what fame feels like from inside the act rather than on how a band forms. That framing belongs to the K/DA setting; it should not be read as a claim about the champions’ main-universe lives.

Who is in True Damage, and what does “GIANTS” mean in the project?
True Damage’s lineup is Akali, Ekko, Qiyana, Senna, and Yasuo. Its identity is built around hip-hop and rap, but the group is described as a deliberately genre-blending, international collective rather than a single-style act. “GIANTS,” the group’s debut single associated with Worlds 2019, is the natural place to begin.
The band’s Universe profile gives its formation a direct connection to K/DA’s success: Akali recruits Ekko, Senna, Qiyana, and Yasuo after K/DA’s worldwide rise. That makes True Damage a different kind of story from K/DA’s established-star premise. Its central idea is collaboration among artists who bring distinct identities into one collective.

Ekko’s in-universe profile emphasizes both self-expression and the possibility of using music to uplift his neighborhood. He describes the group this way: “What is True Damage? Man, True Damage is the future! It’s a collective of the best artists from around the world, coming together for the best collaboration, to make the best hip-hop music. We’re five steps ahead of the game. Everyone else has gotta catch up.” — Ekko, in-universe member profile.
That statement is character dialogue within the project, not an independent measure of the group’s real-world reach or success. It captures the band’s self-image: confident, collaborative, and focused on looking ahead.
What is Pentakill’s lineup and musical style?
Pentakill is League’s most overtly fantasy-metal project. Karthus, Kayle, Mordekaiser, Olaf, Sona, Viego, and Yorick are represented across its documented roster and releases. Rather than presenting the champions as everyday pop artists, the project frames them as larger-than-life performers in a theatrical rock mythology.

“Mortal Reminder” is a useful entry song. The documented catalog also includes album-era releases associated with Pentakill and Pentakill III: The Lost Chapter. Those releases help explain why the act is more than a one-off genre costume: it has an album-oriented identity and a roster that expands across its musical history.
Pentakill’s premise makes the band’s visual language part of its appeal. Amplified instruments, fantasy imagery, and dramatic stage personas give the champions a heightened performance-world identity. Later additions broaden the lineup beyond the original touring-band concept, so roster references can vary depending on whether a source is describing the earlier band or the wider body of releases.
Who are the HEARTSTEEL members, and what is their story?
HEARTSTEEL’s core lineup is Aphelios, Ezreal, K’Sante, Kayn, Sett, and Yone. Its presentation blends pop and hip-hop influences with the swagger and ensemble chemistry of a boy band. “PARANOIA” is its breakout single, while “Live My Life” is another major release.
Riot’s story material introduces HEARTSTEEL as a virtual artist group whose champion identities cross into a fictional real-world music scene. The useful distinction is that the members are still alternate-universe versions of League champions: the premise is not that their usual Runeterra roles have suddenly become careers in the same continuity.
Alternate-universe material also brings in Alune with Aphelios and Rhaast with Kayn. These names add context to the project’s character portrayals, but they do not change the six-person core lineup commonly used to describe HEARTSTEEL.

Are the virtual bands canon to League of Legends?
They are official League projects, but their band stories are set in alternate universes rather than being straightforward additions to the main Runeterra timeline. Riot Records describes its music setting as an alternate Earth, and the Universe pages supply stories and profiles for the acts within those settings.
That distinction resolves a common source of confusion. A relationship, career milestone, or band membership can be true for a champion’s music-world counterpart without being part of that champion’s main-game biography. The music projects can borrow recognizable character traits and imagery while changing the world around them to suit a band story.
When discussing a music video or profile, identify the relevant act or alternate universe if the detail could be mistaken for main continuity. This is especially useful when the same champion appears in more than one project: Akali, for example, is part of both K/DA and True Damage, but those are separate musical settings, not one continuous group career.

Start with the representative track that best signals the project’s identity, then explore additional releases if its sound or world appeals to you.

- True Damage: “GIANTS” is the debut single associated with Worlds 2019 and the clearest starting point for the collective’s hip-hop identity.
- Pentakill: “Mortal Reminder” introduces the theatrical metal approach; the albums and releases associated with Pentakill III: The Lost Chapter extend that identity.
- HEARTSTEEL: “PARANOIA” is the breakout single; “Live My Life” is another major release to try.
These are entry points rather than a ranking. The projects do not need to be approached as chapters in one musical storyline: choose by sound first, then use the matching band profile or story material if you want the alternate-universe context.

Are the League bands still featured in current game experiences?
Yes. Riot’s Journey to Stardom event, published October 21, 2026, names Pentakill, HEARTSTEEL, True Damage, and K/DA in its band progression system for ARAM: Mayhem. This is a dated example of the acts continuing to appear in League experiences; it does not mean that every band has a new song or release tied to the event.
The event also reflects how the projects function beyond their original music releases. Their distinct identities make them recognizable themes that can be brought into other League experiences, while the music-world stories remain separate from the main Runeterra continuity.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Seraphine count as a K/DA member?
Seraphine appears in Riot Records’ broader music roster, but the core K/DA lineup is Ahri, Akali, Evelynn, and Kai’Sa. It is clearer to describe her as part of the wider music roster than to add her to K/DA’s core group.
Which champion is in both K/DA and True Damage?
Akali appears in both projects. The overlap is one reason to specify which alternate-universe act you mean when discussing a champion’s music persona.
Is “GIANTS” a True Damage song from Worlds 2019?
Yes. “GIANTS” is True Damage’s debut single associated with Worlds 2019. It is a useful starting point if you want to hear the group’s collective hip-hop identity.
Does HEARTSTEEL have seven core members?
No. Its core lineup has six champions: Aphelios, Ezreal, K’Sante, Kayn, Sett, and Yone. Alune and Rhaast appear in related alternate-universe material, but are not part of that six-member core list.
