The KOORUI S2741LM is worth considering if you want one 27-inch monitor that can run detailed 4K at 160Hz or switch to 1080p at 320Hz for competitive play. Its 1,152-zone QD Mini LED backlight delivers much stronger HDR contrast than a conventional IPS display, while HDMI 2.1, USB-C with 90W charging, KVM and an adjustable stand make it practical for mixed gaming and work setups. It is not a universal winner: RTINGS and TFTCentral found inverse ghosting at lower refresh rates, muted small HDR highlights caused by black crush, and color modes that need calibration for dependable editing. The best fit is a PC gamer or laptop user who values flexibility more than perfect factory color or OLED-level pixel response.
What is the KOORUI S2741LM?
The S2741LM is a 27-inch IPS monitor using a quantum-dot (QD) Mini LED backlight. Its defining feature is a dual-mode panel: 3840×2160 (4K UHD) at up to 160Hz for detail, or 1920×1080 (Full HD) at up to 320Hz for speed. KOORUI positions it as a DisplayHDR 1400 monitor, and TFTCentral reports VESA DisplayHDR 1400 certification. The backlight has 1,152 independently controlled dimming zones, a very high count for an LCD monitor of this size.
That combination makes the S2741LM unusual. Most 4K gaming monitors ask you to choose between image detail and a fixed high refresh rate; this model lets you change the priority by game. You get sharper text, maps and single-player visuals in 4K, then a lower-resolution, higher-refresh mode for esports titles where motion clarity and frame rate matter more than fine detail.
Is the KOORUI S2741LM good for gaming?
Yes. RTINGS rates it as great for PC gaming because the 4K/160Hz and 1080p/320Hz modes cover both cinematic and competitive workloads. Testing found low input lag, consistently fast response and support for common variable-refresh-rate (VRR) formats. The main motion caveat is inverse ghosting when the refresh rate drops, so the fastest overdrive setting is not automatically the best choice for every game.

4K at 160Hz for detail
At 3840×2160, the 27-inch panel produces very sharp game geometry and text. A 160Hz ceiling is high enough for smooth camera movement while leaving room for demanding image quality settings. Reaching 160 frames per second at 4K requires a powerful graphics card, and many recent games will run below that figure; VRR is therefore important because it keeps uneven frame delivery from appearing as obvious tearing.
1080p at 320Hz for speed
The 320Hz mode is aimed at competitive shooters and other games in which a high frame rate can reduce perceived blur and control latency. It is a true resolution trade-off: 1080p uses fewer pixels than 4K, so the image is less detailed and text is less crisp. In return, a mid-range gaming system has a much easier path to very high frame rates. At 27 inches, 1080p also looks softer than it does on a smaller esports display.
Response tuning and inverse ghosting
RTINGS found fast response overall but noted inverse ghosting at low refresh rates. Inverse ghosting appears as bright or dark halos trailing moving objects when an overdrive circuit is too aggressive for the current refresh rate. If you see these artifacts, select a slower response setting or test a different overdrive mode rather than forcing the fastest option. TFTCentral also found response tuning less ideal in the 320Hz dual-mode setting, so inspect moving text and high-contrast edges in your own games.

How good is the S2741LM’s Mini LED HDR?
The 1,152-zone Mini LED system gives the S2741LM substantially better local contrast than ordinary edge-lit IPS monitors. Dark areas can be dimmed independently from bright parts of the frame, producing deeper blacks and a stronger HDR effect. TFTCentral describes the backlight as bright with decent blooming control, and KOORUI lists more than 1,400 nits of HDR brightness. These figures describe the manufacturer’s specification; they are not a guarantee that every scene will sustain that brightness.
Where the backlight works well
- Bright effects such as explosions, sunlight and neon signs can appear far more intense than on standard IPS.
- Large dark regions benefit from local dimming, improving perceived contrast in night scenes.
- The high zone count limits haloing around bright objects compared with lower-zone Mini LED designs, although blooming cannot be eliminated.
Black crush and small highlights
RTINGS found that small HDR highlights can look muted because of black crush. The monitor may preserve deep blacks by reducing shadow-level output, but that can hide detail in dark textures and prevent a tiny bright object from reaching the luminance you expect. TFTCentral likewise observed weaker shadow detail in some modes. HDR performance is therefore strong in broad bright scenes, but not perfectly consistent in every game or movie.

Use the monitor’s HDR mode only with HDR content, and check in-game black-level or gamma controls when dark details disappear. A scene with a bright object against a black background is a useful practical test: if the object looks dim or nearby shadow detail vanishes, try another local-dimming or picture mode before judging the panel.
Are the colors accurate enough for editing?
The S2741LM has a wide-gamut QD layer. KOORUI specifies 99% sRGB, 99% Adobe RGB and 98% DCI-P3 coverage with 10-bit support. Those are specification claims, not independent measurements of every unit. RTINGS found wide color and useful local dimming for editing, but its sRGB mode was inaccurate out of the box. For dependable photo, video or design work, calibration is needed.

Calibration aligns white balance, gamma and color primaries with a known target. Without it, a wide-gamut monitor can make ordinary sRGB images look oversaturated, and an inaccurate preset can shift skin tones or neutral grays. If you edit for the web, calibrate to an sRGB workflow or use a measured sRGB clamp. If you work in DCI-P3 or Adobe RGB, use a colorimeter and a color-managed application that supports the profile.
For gaming and general use, the wide gamut is attractive, but do not treat the published coverage percentages as proof of factory accuracy. The monitor’s color mode, the game’s color management and your operating system profile all affect what you see.
What ports and productivity features does it have?
The S2741LM is unusually well equipped for a gaming monitor. It includes two HDMI 2.1 inputs, DisplayPort 1.4, USB-C with DisplayPort Alt Mode and up to 90W power delivery, a USB-A hub and a headphone output. It also supports KVM, picture-in-picture (PiP) and picture-by-picture (PbP).

USB-C laptop setup
Connect a laptop to the monitor’s USB-C port with a full-featured USB-C cable that supports DisplayPort Alt Mode and the required power level. The monitor can then carry video, USB data and up to 90W of charging over one connection. A laptop that needs more than 90W may still discharge under heavy load, even though the display is functioning normally.

For a two-computer desk, connect one computer through USB-C and the other through DisplayPort or HDMI, then connect the monitor’s USB upstream paths as required by the on-screen menu. Assign the keyboard and mouse to the active input. Switching the monitor input should then switch the USB peripherals as well; if it does not, check that the upstream cable is connected and that the KVM pairing matches the selected source.
How does it work with PS5 and Xbox Series X|S?
RTINGS reports that the S2741LM’s HDMI 2.1 bandwidth supports PS5 and Xbox Series X|S signals, with Dolby Vision as the stated exception. That makes it a strong console option when you also want a high-refresh PC monitor. Console output is still limited by each console’s supported resolution and refresh combinations, so the monitor’s 160Hz or 320Hz ceilings do not mean a console will drive those rates.
Use an HDMI 2.1 cable and enable the console’s 4K, HDR and variable-refresh options where available. If a signal fails to appear, temporarily disable HDR or VRR and reconnect, then re-enable features one at a time. This isolates cable, handshake and mode-selection problems without assuming the panel is defective.
Is it suitable for office work?
For office use, the S2741LM combines sharp 4K text, USB-C laptop charging, KVM and a fully ergonomic stand. Reflections are the main office drawback identified by RTINGS. In a sunny room or near a window, bright reflections can distract from dark content. Position the display perpendicular to the strongest light source, close blinds when necessary, or use a monitor arm to move the panel away from direct reflections. A glossy-looking HDR image can be impressive at night but tiring if daylight is reflected into the screen.

How should you configure the monitor?
Use this order when setting up a new S2741LM so connection and image problems are easier to isolate.
- Choose the connection. Use DisplayPort 1.4 or HDMI 2.1 for a desktop gaming PC, and USB-C for a laptop that supports DisplayPort Alt Mode.
- Set the operating-system refresh rate. Select 160Hz at 3840×2160 for detail-oriented games, or 320Hz at 1920×1080 for competitive play. Confirm the selected mode in the display settings rather than relying on the game menu alone.
- Enable VRR. Turn on the monitor’s adaptive-sync option and the compatible setting in your graphics driver or console. Keep the frame rate within the display’s supported VRR range.
- Test response modes. Move a high-contrast object across the screen at both high and low frame rates. If you see bright trails, reduce overdrive instead of selecting the most aggressive response option.
- Configure HDR per application. Enable HDR in the operating system and game only when the content supports it. Check dark-scene detail and small highlights after changing local-dimming modes.
- Calibrate for color work. Use a colorimeter and an appropriate sRGB, DCI-P3 or Adobe RGB target if accurate images are part of your job.
- Pair USB and KVM devices. Connect the upstream cable, assign each computer to its video input and verify that the keyboard and mouse switch with the selected source.
- Adjust the stand or VESA mount. Place the top of the screen near eye level and angle it away from direct light to reduce reflections.

- Inverse ghosting at low refresh rates: aggressive response tuning can create halos when frame rates fall.
- Black crush in HDR: very dark detail or small bright highlights may be reduced in some scenes.
- Factory color is not dependable: the sRGB mode needs calibration for accurate editing.
- 1080p softness: 320Hz mode sacrifices the clarity of native 4K.
- Reflections: bright rooms can make the screen distracting despite its strong HDR capability.
- Variable retail conditions: price, seller, stock and delivery change by region and date.

Also confirm that your graphics card, laptop and cables can provide the mode you want. A computer may support 4K output but not 160Hz at the selected color format, while a laptop may accept USB-C video but not 90W charging. Matching those requirements before ordering prevents most “the monitor cannot reach its advertised mode” surprises.

Will a PS5 or Xbox Series X|S use the full 320Hz refresh rate?
No. Consoles have their own output limits, so the 320Hz setting is primarily useful for a PC. The HDMI 2.1 inputs are suitable for supported console signals, with Dolby Vision excluded from the signals RTINGS tested.
Why do dark details disappear in some HDR games?
Local dimming and black-level processing can cause black crush, especially in scenes with tiny bright objects against deep shadows. Try another HDR or dimming mode and adjust the game’s black-level control before deciding the panel is faulty.
Is calibration mandatory for everyday gaming?
No. Calibration matters when you need trustworthy color for photography, video or design. For games and general use, the display remains usable without a colorimeter, although the factory sRGB mode may not be accurate enough for professional work.
