What is the Kogan SmarterHome 5S?
The 5S is a smart air purifier identified by model number KASMAPF5SIA. Kogan’s 2023 guide specifies an H13 HEPA filter, four operating modes and SmarterHome app connectivity. Is the Kogan 5S worth buying?

For an existing owner, the central question is whether the correct filter remains available at a price that makes continued use worthwhile. For a second-hand or old-stock buyer, confirm that point before purchase, and inspect the unit’s condition and filter status. The A$239 price shown by CHOICE is a listing figure accessed in 2026, not confirmation that the purifier is currently available at that price.

How much room can the 5S cover?
Kogan and CHOICE list coverage of 77 m², while CHOICE also lists a claimed CADR of 515 m³/h. Treat both as headline specifications, not a guarantee that the purifier will deliver a particular air-cleaning result in every 77 m² space. The supplied specifications do not state the assumptions behind the coverage figure, such as ceiling height, air changes per hour or room layout.
Room shape, ceiling height, open doorways and the placement of the purifier can affect how air moves through a space. If you are selecting a purifier for a particular room, compare the claimed coverage and CADR with the needs of that room, and do not assume the coverage number alone proves suitability. No independent, like-for-like test results are available here to validate the 5S against other models.
How loud and power-hungry is it?
Kogan’s 2023 guide lists rated power of 60 W and noise of 56 dB. The guide does not attach the noise figure to a specific mode or describe the conditions in which it was measured, so it should not be treated as a verified reading for Sleep mode, or as a measured noise level at every setting.

The 60 W figure is a rating, not a record of what the purifier draws continuously in every mode. As a simple upper-bound calculation at the rated draw, running at 60 W for one hour would use 0.06 kWh; 24 hours at that draw would use 1.44 kWh. Actual consumption may differ by operating mode and use. To estimate your cost, multiply the energy used in kWh by your electricity tariff; the guide does not provide a usage-based energy figure or a cost estimate.
What controls and app features does it have?
The guide lists Auto, Sleep, Mid and High modes. It also describes a PM2.5 indicator that uses blue, yellow and red bands to represent progressively poorer air quality. The available guide details do not give the numerical PM2.5 boundaries for those colours, so the indicator is best understood as a visual status cue rather than a precise reading established by the supplied specifications.
A shut-off timer can be set from 2 to 24 hours. The guide also shows a UV/anion selection button, but the button’s presence alone does not establish the effectiveness, safety characteristics or pollutant-removal performance of those functions. Do not infer a health or cleaning benefit beyond what the manufacturer’s documentation specifically supports.

SmarterHome connectivity supports AP, EZ or Bluetooth pairing, according to the guide. Those are the pairing options identified in the documentation; the supplied product details do not specify network-band requirements, app compatibility by operating-system version or how the purifier behaves if the app connection is lost. If app control is essential, confirm that the current app and your phone support the product before buying a discontinued unit.

Which replacement filter fits KASMAPF5SIA?
The model-specific replacement identified for the 5S is the Kogan KAH13FTR5SA H13 HEPA filter. Kogan lists it for the Smart Purifier 5S, and Big W lists the same model number as compatible with the Smart Air Purifier 5S. Search by the exact filter code, KAH13FTR5SA, or by the purifier model, KASMAPF5SIA, and verify the compatibility statement on the live listing before ordering.
Kogan’s guide says not to use third-party filters. Because the purifier itself is discontinued, availability of the correct replacement is an important part of the ownership decision, not a detail to leave until the filter indicator appears. The available product information does not confirm current stock or delivery availability.
How often should you replace the filter, and what will it cost?
The replacement interval differs by source. Kogan’s guide says the filter indicator appears after 2,200 hours and instructs the owner to replace the filter. Kogan’s replacement-filter listing recommends replacement once every six months. CHOICE uses a three-month interval in its annual filter-cost calculation. Follow the unit’s indicator and current manufacturer guidance rather than treating those different intervals as interchangeable.
At the A$90 replacement-filter price listed by CHOICE in 2026, its three-month assumption produces a calculated A$360 per year. Using Kogan’s six-month recommendation at the same listed price would imply A$180 per year if two filters were bought in a year. These are arithmetic estimates based on CHOICE’s listed price, not confirmed current prices or a guarantee of how often a particular household will need a filter.

The 2,200-hour indicator interval is about 92 days of continuous operation, or about nine months at eight operating hours per day. That conversion is a way to understand elapsed running time, not a replacement schedule that overrides the indicator or manufacturer guidance. Actual calendar time to the indicator will depend on how long the purifier runs.
Replacing and resetting the filter
- Check the filter indicator and obtain a compatible KAH13FTR5SA filter before removing the old one.
- Replace the filter according to the unit’s instructions. Do not substitute a third-party filter; Kogan’s guide explicitly advises against them.
- After installation, hold the mode button for seven seconds. The guide says this resets the display to “Filter 100%.”
What should owners know about safe use?
Kogan’s guide states: “This air purifier is not a substitute for normal ventilation, daily vacuuming, or cooking rangehoods.” Keep using those ordinary measures; the purifier is an additional appliance, not a replacement for bringing in fresh air, cleaning dust or extracting cooking fumes.
The guide’s wording matters when deciding where to rely on the 5S. Its coverage and CADR figures do not establish that it can compensate for inadequate ventilation or replace source control. The same documentation does not supply a detailed pollutant-by-pollutant performance profile, so avoid assuming that the H13 HEPA label alone answers every question about gases, odors or other contaminants.

The KASMAPF5SIA has a useful set of controls and appealing headline specifications, but those figures need context: the 77 m² coverage and 515 m³/h CADR are claimed values, while the stated 56 dB and 60 W are specifications rather than independent mode-by-mode measurements. Its discontinued status and filter cost have more immediate implications for a buyer than its feature list. Consider it only if the correct filter is available, the purchase price reflects the model’s status, and its documented controls meet your needs.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does the Kogan 5S measure PM2.5 numerically?
The guide describes a blue, yellow and red PM2.5 indicator but does not provide numerical thresholds or establish that the display is a calibrated measurement instrument. Treat it as a colour-coded status indicator, not a substitute for a separately specified particle monitor.
Can I use the 5S without connecting it to the app?
The guide lists physical operating modes and a timer as well as app pairing, indicating controls are not limited to the app. It does not document every function available from the unit itself, so check the manual for the specific control you need.
