Kimi K3.1 Pro is worth evaluating if you need a very large context window, visual inputs, agent-style workflows, or a token-priced API. Moonshot AI describes it as a 3T-class model with native visual understanding and a 1-million-token context window. Those are vendor specifications, not independent proof that it outperforms ChatGPT, Claude, or Google’s assistants. The practical choice depends on whether you are buying a consumer membership or metered API access, what usage limits apply in your region, and whether Kimi’s data policy fits your work. Kimi’s published API rates are $2 per million input tokens and $10 per million output tokens for K3.1 Pro; its Highspeed variant costs $4 and $20 respectively. Its consumer membership prices are listed in Chinese yuan for mainland China and are separate from API billing.
What is Kimi K3.1 Pro?
K3.1 Pro is Moonshot AI’s flagship model in the Kimi assistant and API family. Moonshot’s API Platform calls it the first K3.1-series model and “Kimi’s most capable flagship to date,” with 3T-class parameters, native visual understanding, and a 1-million-token context window. Kimi Code documentation lists the same 1-million-token context specification for coding use.
“3T-class” and the context figure are vendor-listed specifications. They do not by themselves establish better accuracy, reasoning, coding quality, latency, or safety than another assistant. The available material does not include an independent, controlled, like-for-like benchmark against ChatGPT, Claude, or Google’s models, so a responsible comparison must focus on documented capabilities, billing, controls, and availability.

Which features does Kimi document?
Kimi’s help and product documentation describe a broad assistant rather than a single chat-only model. Feature access can vary by product and paid tier, so treat the list below as the documented product scope, not a guarantee that every account receives every capability.
Web-connected search and research
Kimi materials describe web-connected search, deep thinking, and deep-research workflows. These features are intended for questions that require gathering information rather than answering only from the model’s internal knowledge. Search results, source selection, and quotas can change with the product surface and account plan.
Long conversations and large documents
The vendor lists a 1-million-token context window for K3.1 Pro. A context window is the amount of text, code, images, and other supported information a model can consider in one interaction or conversation; it is not a promise that every request will be processed at that size without latency, upload, or plan restrictions. For long-document work, confirm the current file-size, upload-count, and conversation limits in the account you intend to use.
Multimodal and creative work
Moonshot describes native visual understanding, while Kimi’s general materials mention multimodal reasoning. The product pages also list website and presentation creation, 3D creation, slide generation, and document and spreadsheet processing. The Apple App Store listing verifies a mobile distribution channel and lists K3.1 Pro, 3D creation, coding, slides, and agent features; it does not establish that every feature has identical limits on mobile and web.
Agents and coding
Kimi’s agent materials cover website and presentation creation, deep research, and document or spreadsheet tasks. Kimi Code is a separate coding-assistant suite documented for software development workflows. The API page attributes claimed gains in coding, 3D creation, financial research, and modeling to K3.1 Pro. Those are Moonshot’s product claims, not independent performance measurements.
Financial research
Financial-research and modeling capabilities are specifically mentioned in Moonshot’s K3.1 Pro description. Because financial information is time-sensitive and errors can be costly, verify figures against primary filings or market data instead of treating an assistant response as investment advice.
How does K3.1 Pro compare with leading assistants on context and tools?
Kimi has one unusually clear documented specification: a 1-million-token context window. The materials available for this comparison do not provide equivalent current context figures, quotas, or tool matrices for Claude, Google AI plans, or ChatGPT. That means a table can show what is established, but cannot honestly rank the assistants’ capabilities.

For a real buying decision, test the same representative tasks in each service: a long document with citations, an image-analysis prompt, a multi-file coding change, and a research question that requires current sources. Record answer quality, citation accuracy, latency, tool failures, and how quickly you hit usage limits. A short trial is more informative than inferring quality from parameter counts.

What does Kimi API access cost?
Kimi’s API is metered by tokens. It is a developer purchase, not an allowance bundled automatically with a consumer membership. Moonshot’s API Platform displayed the following rates on October 25, 2026.
| API variant | Input tokens | Output tokens | Cache write | Cache hit |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| K3.1 Pro | $2.00 per million | $10.00 per million | $2.00 per million | $0.20 per million |
| K3.1 Pro Highspeed | $4.00 per million | $20.00 per million | $4.00 per million | $0.20 per million |
Moonshot describes Highspeed as roughly three times faster on the API page; Kimi Code describes it as approximately two to three times faster. Those are vendor claims, and actual latency depends on load, request size, network conditions, and service availability. The documentation says Highspeed retains the same stated intelligence and context window as the regular variant.
How can you estimate a request?
Use the displayed per-million rates rather than comparing them with a flat consumer subscription. For example, a request containing 200,000 input tokens and producing 20,000 output tokens on regular K3.1 Pro would be calculated as 0.2 × $2.00 plus 0.02 × $10.00, or $0.60 before any other charges or taxes. The same token counts on Highspeed would be 0.2 × $4.00 plus 0.02 × $20.00, or $1.20.
Repeated prompts may benefit from caching if your implementation qualifies for cache pricing. A cache hit is listed at $0.20 per million for both variants, while cache-write rates differ. Your actual bill depends on how the API classifies tokens, cache events, and any current platform rules, so monitor usage in the developer console.
What are Kimi’s consumer membership prices?
Kimi’s pricing overview, marked updated October 24, 2026, lists monthly tiers of ¥0, ¥49, ¥99, ¥199, ¥699, and ¥1,399, with annual billing options. These figures are presented in Chinese yuan for mainland China. The page states that API use is charged separately and is not included in memberships.
The available pricing material does not establish universal plan names, exact message quotas, priority rules, or equivalent prices for every country. Currency conversion also does not predict the final amount after local taxes, app-store billing, or regional adjustments. Check the live membership page for your account’s country before paying, and treat the October 24 listing as a dated reference rather than a permanent price sheet.
| Purchase type | Published figure | What it buys | Important qualification |
|---|---|---|---|
| Free Kimi membership tier | ¥0 per month | Consumer access under the limits of the free tier | Current tools, quotas, and regional eligibility are not established here |
| Paid Kimi membership tiers | ¥49, ¥99, ¥199, ¥699, or ¥1,399 per month | Consumer features according to the selected tier | Mainland China pricing page; entitlements and annual terms can change |
| Kimi API | Token-metered, in US dollars | Developer access to model endpoints | Separate billing; not included in memberships |
How do Kimi’s headline prices compare with other assistants?
Leading services publish different subscription structures, so the figures below are price points, not equivalent bundles. Included messages, premium models, storage, tool access, priority, taxes, and regional availability can make two plans with the same headline price very different.
| Service and plan | Published headline price | Billing note | What is not established by the price alone |
|---|---|---|---|
| Claude Pro | $20 monthly, or $17 per month with annual billing | Annual option is $200 billed up front | Equivalent usage, model access, and regional taxes |
| Claude Max | From $100 monthly | Higher-priced consumer tier | Exact allowance and feature equivalence to Kimi tiers |
| Google AI Pro | $19.99 per month | Price shown on the US page | Availability, taxes, and included limits outside the US |
| ChatGPT Pro | $100, $200, or $500 per month | Multiple monthly tiers | Equivalent usage, tools, and model access relative to Kimi |
Do not divide a Kimi API bill by a consumer subscription price or compare a mainland-China membership price directly with a US plan. First choose the billing channel, then compare the allowance, model access, tools, priority, and region on both sides.

What does Kimi’s privacy policy say?
Kimi’s privacy policy is identified as effective August 31, 2026, with a last update date of August 24, 2026. It describes the information collected to operate the service rather than promising that conversations remain private by default.
- Account information: registration may involve a phone number.
- Content: users may submit text, images, audio, video, and other files. Conversation inputs and outputs are collected and used to provide the conversation service.
- Device and network data: the policy describes collection of device, operating-system, network information, access times, and IP addresses.
- Model improvement: the policy says content may be used to optimize models after encryption and de-identification.
The policy provides a request route for people who do not want their content used for model training. Its wording is: “If you do not want your content to be used for model training, you may contact our customer service through the contact details set out in Section 11 of this Policy and make a request.” The sentence describes contacting customer service and making a request; it is not an unconditional, self-service switch. The policy also says identity verification may be required.
Is Kimi more private than Claude, Google, or ChatGPT?
The available material does not support a complete, criterion-by-criterion privacy ranking. Kimi has a published policy and a described training-use request process, but comparable details for every competing assistant were not established deeply enough to declare one service “more private.” Privacy depends on the account type, country, administrator settings, connected tools, and whether you use a consumer product or an API.
Questions to check before uploading sensitive work
- Is conversation content used for training by default, and is the opt-out a control in settings or a customer-service request?
- How long are prompts, outputs, uploaded files, logs, and backups retained?
- Can human reviewers or service providers access content, and for what purposes?
- In which country or region is data stored and processed?
- Do business and API accounts provide contractual data protections that consumer accounts do not?
- Do files, browser connections, cloud drives, or third-party tools have separate terms?
For confidential code, regulated records, client documents, or personal data, remove unnecessary identifiers, use an approved business or API account, and obtain your organization’s security approval. A model’s context length does not change your legal or contractual obligations.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Which option fits different kinds of work?
Choose by workload and control requirements, not by a single advertised specification.
Choose Kimi for a long-context or multimodal evaluation
Kimi is a logical candidate when you need to place very large documents or code repositories into one working context, analyze visual material, or experiment with agent workflows such as presentations, websites, spreadsheets, and research. Confirm the practical file and quota limits before committing to a paid tier.
Choose a consumer competitor when its ecosystem is the deciding factor
A competing assistant may fit better if your work depends on integrations, regional availability, an employer-approved contract, or a particular productivity ecosystem. The cited prices show that Claude, Google AI, and ChatGPT offer several consumer tiers, but the available evidence does not establish which delivers better answers for your tasks.

How should you run a fair comparison?
A short, controlled trial prevents a large context number or a low headline price from deciding the purchase prematurely.
- Define the account type: compare consumer membership with consumer membership, or API with API. Do not mix a flat subscription with token billing.
- Fix the region and currency: record the country, tax treatment, app-store channel, and billing cycle for every plan.
- Create a representative test set: include a long document, image interpretation, coding change, spreadsheet or structured-data task, and current-information research question.
- Record measurable outcomes: note correctness, citation quality, tool completion, latency, refusal behavior, and the point at which usage limits appear.
- Review data handling: read the applicable consumer, team, or API policy and document training-use controls, retention, regions, and third-party access.
- Calculate total cost: include annual prepayment, taxes, API tokens, cache events, and any separate services required for your workflow.
This method produces a decision tied to your work instead of an unsupported claim that one model is universally best.
What limitations and pitfalls should you expect?
- Vendor specifications are not benchmarks: 3T-class parameters, a 1-million-token context, and claimed speed improvements do not prove superior output quality.
- Plan names and quotas change: Kimi’s membership page can change its tiers, entitlements, and regional terms; verify them at checkout.
- API and membership are separate: paying for a consumer tier does not automatically fund API calls.
- Long context can increase cost: large prompts consume input tokens, and long outputs consume output tokens even when the model handles them successfully.
- Highspeed costs more: its displayed token rates are double the regular K3.1 Pro rates, while the speed advantage is a vendor estimate rather than an independent test.
- Privacy requests are procedural: Kimi’s training-use language requires contacting customer service and may require identity verification.
- Regional access differs: the cited Kimi membership figures are for mainland China, and Google’s cited price is specifically from its US page.
Is Kimi K3.1 Pro worth trying?
Kimi K3.1 Pro is worth a trial when its documented strengths match your workload: very long context, visual understanding, web-connected research, agent workflows, coding, and a metered API. Its regular API rates are clear enough to model, and the free consumer tier provides a low-risk way to inspect the current experience where available.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesIt is not possible to conclude from the available evidence that K3.1 Pro objectively beats ChatGPT, Claude, or Google’s assistants. Make the final choice after testing your own prompts, checking the current regional plan page, and deciding whether Kimi’s collection and model-training terms are acceptable for the data you handle.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Kimi membership include API credits?
No. Kimi’s pricing overview states that API usage is charged separately from consumer memberships. A membership may provide access to consumer features, while developer requests are billed according to token and cache rates.
Can I opt out of Kimi model training from a settings switch?
The cited privacy policy does not describe a guaranteed self-service switch. It says users who do not want content used for model training may contact customer service, make a request, and complete identity verification if required.
Is Kimi K3.1 Pro available on phones?
The official Apple App Store listing describes Kimi as a free download with in-app purchases and lists K3.1 Pro, coding, slides, 3D creation, and agent features. Mobile availability does not prove that phone and web accounts have identical quotas or tools.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
How does Kimi caching affect an API bill?
The API page lists cache-hit pricing of $0.20 per million tokens for both K3.1 Pro variants. Cache-write pricing is $2.00 per million for regular K3.1 Pro and $4.00 per million for Highspeed, so your implementation’s cache behavior affects the effective cost.
Are Kimi’s China membership prices valid worldwide?
The cited membership overview presents ¥0, ¥49, ¥99, ¥199, ¥699, and ¥1,399 tiers for mainland China. Those figures should not be treated as universal prices; check the live page for your country, currency, taxes, and billing channel.
