Verification date: August 7, 2026. There is no publicly verifiable official KickassTorrents proxy or mirror list to publish. The original KickassTorrents operation was taken down by U.S. authorities on July 20, 2016, and domains now using the KAT name have not established a verifiable connection to that service.
Some current pages claim to be “official,” “safe,” or “working” mirrors. Those labels are self-published claims, not proof of ownership. A reachable website, HTTPS certificate, familiar branding, or KAT-style search page cannot confirm that a domain is operated by the original team.
What happened to the original KickassTorrents?
On July 20, 2016, the U.S. Department of Justice announced the seizure of domains associated with KickassTorrents and the arrest of alleged operator Artem Vaulin in Poland. The domains named by the DOJ included kickasstorrents.com, kat.ph, kickass.to, kastatic.com, kickass.so, thekat.tv, and kat.cr.
That event ended the original service as a verifiable operation. Later websites reused the KAT name, design, categories, and search interface, but copying the appearance of a site does not prove continuity with its former operators.

Are there official KAT proxies in 2026?
No current source independently verifies an official KAT-operated proxy network. Pages that list domains such as kickasstorrents.to or other similarly branded addresses may be online, but availability is not authentication. They may be independent mirrors, cached copies, redirectors, advertising pages, or scams.
This distinction matters because a proxy list can give a false impression of safety. A domain can have:
- a valid TLS certificate without being trustworthy;
- the KAT logo and familiar page layout without access to the original database;
- working DNS while download links lead to unrelated destinations;
- a current status page based only on the operator’s own claims.
Consequently, this article does not publish a “verified working” domain list. No such list can currently be substantiated.

Why HTTPS does not make a KAT mirror safe
HTTPS encrypts traffic between your browser and the website’s domain. It does not verify who operates the site, whether its files are safe, whether its content is lawful, or whether its advertisements contain malicious scripts.
The same applies to a browser padlock. The certificate generally proves control of a domain for an encrypted connection—not that the domain is affiliated with KickassTorrents or that its content is safe. Google’s Safe Browsing system is a separate service designed to identify phishing, malware, and unwanted software; HTTPS is not a replacement for that protection.
Warning signs on alleged KAT mirrors
| What you see | Why it is a problem | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| A “free” account requires a card or payment | A documented KAT-branded scam used a supposed free trial to request payment details. | Close the page. Do not enter card, email, or password information. |
| A prompt asks you to enable notifications | Notification permission can be abused for persistent spam, phishing, or malicious advertisements. | Select Block or deny the request in the browser. |
| You are told to install an extension, player, codec, or download manager | A torrent index should not require unrelated software to display a page. | Do not install it. Remove any download that has already started. |
| The page redirects through several unrelated domains | Redirect chains can lead to phishing pages, fake VPN offers, malware, or aggressive advertising networks. | Close the tab and scan the device if you downloaded anything. |
| The interface looks familiar but search results are incomplete | The site may be a cached or partial copy with stale metadata and altered download links. | Do not assume the results came from the original KAT index. |
| A login page asks for an old KAT password | Unauthorized copies may collect reused credentials. | Never reuse a password. Change it immediately if you submitted it elsewhere. |
How to check a suspicious mirror without interacting with it
- Do not sign in. Treat every KAT-branded login as untrusted because there is no verified official service to authenticate against.
- Do not download an executable. Files such as
.exe,.msi,.dmg, browser extensions, and “codec” installers are especially risky when offered by a torrent page. - Check the address carefully. Look for misspellings, extra hyphens, unusual top-level domains, and redirects to a different hostname. This still cannot prove legitimacy, but it can expose obvious impersonation.
- Review browser permissions. In Chrome, open
Settings > Privacy and security > Site settings > Notifications. In Firefox, openSettings > Privacy & Security > Permissions > Notifications > Settings. Remove any suspicious site and block future requests. - Scan after an accidental download. On Windows, right-click the file and choose
Scan with Microsoft Defender, then run a full scan fromWindows Security > Virus & threat protection > Scan options. Delete the file if you did not intentionally obtain it. - Change exposed credentials. If you entered a password, change it from the legitimate service’s own website and enable multifactor authentication. If you entered payment details, contact the card issuer immediately.
Common claims that should not be treated as proof
“This is the primary KAT domain.”
A page can make that statement without evidence. Current branded status pages do not independently authenticate ownership of the original service.

“The site works, so it is official.”
Reachability only shows that a server responded. It says nothing about the operator, database, download files, or relationship to the 2016 service.
“The mirror has the original design.”
Branding and copied HTML are easy to reproduce. Historical reporting documented KAT copycats that used the brand to collect credentials, sell subscriptions, or distribute malicious advertising.
“A 2025 proxy list is still current.”
Proxy domains can expire, change owners, switch DNS providers, redirect to another service, or become blocked. An old list is not evidence of current availability or safety.

Safer ways to find legitimate content
For movies and television, use licensed services available in your country, a library’s digital catalog, or an official broadcaster and publisher. For software, use the developer’s website, a reputable package repository, or the operating system’s official store. For open-source projects, download from the project’s verified repository and check signed releases or published checksums where available.
If you use peer-to-peer technology for lawful material, obtain files from a source you can independently verify, keep your operating system and security software updated, avoid executable installers from untrusted uploaders, and check the applicable copyright rules in your jurisdiction.

The original KickassTorrents service was seized in 2016. As of August 7, 2026, no publicly verifiable official KAT proxy or mirror has been established. Domains using the name may load, but they should be treated as unaffiliated or unverified—and potentially risky—rather than as confirmed replacements.

FAQ
Is KickassTorrents still officially operating in 2026?
The original service was taken down on July 20, 2016. Websites currently using the KAT name have not publicly established a verifiable connection to the original operation.
Is kickasstorrents.to an official KAT mirror?
Its availability and branding do not prove that it is operated by the original team. It should be treated as an unverified, potentially unsafe site.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Does HTTPS mean a KAT proxy is safe?
No. HTTPS encrypts the connection to a domain, but it does not verify the operator, the files, the advertisements, or the legality of the content.
What should I do if I entered my password on a KAT mirror?
Change that password immediately through the legitimate service, change it anywhere else you reused it, enable multifactor authentication, and contact your card issuer if you submitted payment information.
The Bottom Line
There is no verifiable official KickassTorrents proxy list for 2026. The original service was seized in 2016, while current KAT-branded domains are unverified and may expose visitors to phishing, payment scams, malicious advertising, malware, or unstable redirects. Treat claims of an “official” or “safe” mirror with skepticism.
