JetBrains’ klibs.io is a search portal for discovering Kotlin Multiplatform libraries by what they do and which platforms they support. JetBrains says it indexes information from GitHub and Maven Central and adds AI-generated metadata to make projects easier to find. A search result is a starting point, not proof that a library supports every target or suits your project.
What klibs.io is—and what it searches
JetBrains introduced klibs.io to help developers find Kotlin Multiplatform (KMP) libraries by use case as well as platform. Its launch announcement says the service draws on project and package information from GitHub and Maven Central, then uses AI-generated metadata to enrich search results. Kotlin’s dependency documentation also points developers to JetBrains’ search platform when looking for libraries.
The portal’s public repository describes an implementation that periodically indexes Maven artifacts and GitHub repository information, generates descriptions in a separate scheduled task, and supports full-text search across aggregated project and package views. Those implementation details can change; they also mean that search metadata and index freshness should not be treated as a substitute for checking the upstream project or package.
How to search by use case and platform
Start with the capability you need, then narrow results to the targets relevant to your app. JetBrains’ examples include finding a library for permissions on iOS and Android, or a Compose Multiplatform calendar component for mobile and web. These describe search goals, not guarantees of identical behavior or feature parity across the named platforms.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
At launch, JetBrains listed filters for the following platform families. The catalog and available filters may have changed since the announcement, so check the live portal for current options.
| Platform filter named by JetBrains | What to verify for a candidate |
|---|---|
| JVM | Whether the library targets the JVM configuration your application uses. |
| Android JVM | Whether it supports Android and any required Android-specific setup or APIs. |
| Wasm | Whether its Wasm support matches the Kotlin and runtime configuration of your project. |
| JS | Whether the relevant JavaScript target and environment are supported. |
| Kotlin/Native | Whether it supports your specific Native target, such as the iOS target you need. |
JetBrains reported that the number of Kotlin Multiplatform libraries grew by 35% in 2024. That is a historical figure attributed to JetBrains, not a current annual growth rate. Project totals are also snapshots: the JetBrains announcement page later stated more than 4,300 projects without dating that update; the 2026 JetBrains Kotlin Blog index stated more than 4,200; and the live klibs.io search result showed 4,500+ when accessed on October 4, 2026. These figures differ by source and time, so none should be read as a guaranteed current count.

Check a library before adding it
A portal listing does not establish that a library is maintained, correctly identified, licensed for your use, or compatible with every target in your app. Follow its project and package links and check the details against your actual requirements.
- Fit: Confirm that the library provides the API or capability you need, rather than relying on a generated description alone.
- Targets: Verify support for each target you intend to build, and look for platform-specific limitations or setup in the library’s own documentation.
- Identity: Check that the repository and package identifiers lead to the intended project and artifact.
- Setup: Use the library author’s dependency instructions and exact coordinates; do not infer an artifact name from a search result title.
- Project health and terms: Review release activity, documentation, and license information at the upstream repository or package listing.
Add the dependency to the appropriate Gradle source set
Finding a library and declaring it are separate tasks. Kotlin’s documentation distinguishes dependencies shared across source sets from those intended for only one platform. A library shared by common code can be declared in commonMain; a platform-only dependency belongs in the corresponding source set. Follow the library’s own setup guidance for its exact coordinates and any additional configuration.

- What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (7-in-1), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.
- Open the library’s documentation or package listing from klibs.io and confirm the dependency coordinates and supported targets.
- In your project’s Gradle configuration, add a shared dependency to
commonMainif it is intended for shared code, or add a platform-specific dependency to the relevant source set. - Sync or build the project, then check the library’s platform-specific instructions if resolution or compilation fails.
For the current Gradle dependency model and examples, see Kotlin’s Kotlin Multiplatform dependency documentation.

When several results look plausible, compare them against the same criteria rather than choosing by search ranking or generated description. A library that covers one target well may be a better fit than one with broader advertised coverage but missing the API or guidance your project needs.
