What is the FX-J80J-W?
The FX-J80J-W is the white version of Sharp’s FX-J80J-series air purifier. Air passes through a pre-filter, a deodorizing filter and a HEPA filter. Sensors monitor particulate and odor conditions, and the control system can adjust operation automatically or run a selected manual mode.
Sharp also equips the series with Plasmacluster ion functions. The brochure identifies spot and clean-ion-shower functions, which are separate from the mechanical filtration path. In practical terms, the HEPA and deodorizing filters are the parts that physically collect or adsorb contaminants; the ion feature is an additional operating system with its own replaceable ion-generating unit.

Room-size numbers assume a defined test method, not a guarantee that every part of an open home will receive the same cleaning rate. Walls, closed doors, ceiling height, pollutant generation and the purifier’s position all affect the result. In a home divided into several bedrooms, one central unit cannot clean each closed room as effectively as a purifier placed inside that room.

The 480 m³/h maximum airflow gives the FX-J80J-W useful headroom for a large space, but maximum airflow is not the same thing as a universally comparable CADR. When comparing another purifier, check whether its published figure uses the same test method and whether it reports airflow, CADR or a retailer’s marketing estimate.

CHOICE’s Australian snapshot rounds the physical data differently, listing about 73 × 41 × 29 cm and 10.8 kg. Those are market-listing figures, not a contradiction that changes placement planning: allow roughly three quarters of a metre of height, a little over 40 cm of width, and about 30 cm of depth, while checking the exact local specification before building it into furniture.
How loud is the FX-J80J-W at night?
Sharp rates Low at 15 dBA, Medium at 45 dBA and Maximum at 47 dBA. Low is the setting to consider for a bedroom because it combines the lowest specified noise with the lowest energy draw; Medium and Maximum provide more airflow but are much more audible.

These are manufacturer specifications rather than an independent acoustic test. Room acoustics, floor vibration and the distance between the purifier and your bed can change what you hear. Auto and Sleep may change fan behavior as sensor readings change, so the sound can vary instead of remaining at one fixed level.

Sensor indicators are useful for deciding when to run a higher fan level, but they are not a laboratory measurement of every pollutant. PM2.5 and dust readings describe particulate conditions; an odor indicator does not identify a particular gas or guarantee removal of every odor source.

Which replacement filters fit the FX-J80J-W?
Use the model-specific parts named in Sharp’s manual. The HEPA and deodorizing filters are separate components, and the Plasmacluster ion generator has its own replacement unit.

Sharp’s suggested life for each filter is “about two years after opening,” but that estimate is conditional. The stated test condition is purifying a room where five cigarettes are smoked per day until performance falls to half that of a new filter. - Record the date each replacement filter is opened and installed. This gives you a starting point for judging the “about two years after opening” guidance.
- Check the front display and the purifier’s operating environment regularly. Persistent dust, smoke or outdoor pollution can shorten filter life compared with the stated reference condition.
- When ordering, use FZ-J80HFE for the HEPA filter and FZ-J80DFE for the deodorizing filter. Do not substitute the ion-unit code for either filter.
- Monitor the Plasmacluster unit indicator. Sharp says it flashes when total operation exceeds 17,500 hours and flashes quickly at 19,000 hours, at which point ion emission stops.
- After installing a part, follow the manual’s reset or replacement-indicator procedure for the specific component. If the indicator remains active, switch the purifier off and recheck that the correct part is seated as described by Sharp.
The operating-hour warning is separate from filter loading. A unit can reach its ion-generator limit even when the HEPA filter has not reached its replacement point, and a heavily polluted filter can need replacement before the nominal interval.
Does the FX-J80J-W help with allergies and odors?
The HEPA stage is the relevant component for airborne particles, while the deodorizing filter is intended for odor-related compounds. That combination makes the design sensible for dust, pollen and everyday household odors, but the purifier cannot remove sources that remain on surfaces or prevent new pollutants from entering the room.
For allergy management, placement and operating time matter as much as the filter label. Running the purifier continuously at a tolerable setting generally gives more consistent filtration than using maximum only after a visible event. Keep doors and windows in mind: an open window, cooking plume or indoor smoking can overwhelm a small room’s cleaning rate faster than the purifier can respond.

Availability matters because a purifier remains useful only while its consumables can be sourced. Before buying, check three things with the seller or Sharp distributor:
- The exact model suffix is FX-J80J-W, not a visually similar FX-series model.
- FZ-J80HFE and FZ-J80DFE are currently orderable in your country.
- The seller can explain warranty coverage and whether the unit is new, refurbished or imported.
