Short answer: The Sigberg Audio Manta is not a conventional pair of full-range passive speakers. It is a four-way active, cardioid monitor system designed around dedicated subwoofers, DSP and built-in amplification. The manufacturer’s published full-system target is 25–20,000 Hz ±2.5 dB anechoic with subwoofers, while an independent Home Theater HiFi review evaluated a pair of Manta monitors with two 10D active sealed subwoofers and reported a $30,000 MSRP for that configuration. The system is compelling for listeners who want high output, controlled directivity and flexible subwoofer placement, but its price, specialist setup and made-to-order purchase model make an audition and a current quote essential.
This review separates Sigberg’s specifications and recommendations from the reviewer’s observations and from Spinorama’s vendor-origin measurements. That distinction matters because the monitor alone, the complete monitor-plus-subwoofer system, and modeled scores are different things.
What is the Sigberg Audio Manta system?
The Manta is an integrated active speaker system consisting of cardioid monitors and dedicated bass units. Sigberg describes it as a four-way active design and says the initial configuration includes two subwoofers; additional bass units can be added. Home Theater HiFi likewise describes the monitors as part of a system designed from the start around subwoofers rather than as standalone full-range boxes.
That architecture changes how the headline specifications should be read. The monitors are intended to roll off around 90 Hz, according to the independent review, so the deep-bass figures published for the Manta apply to the complete system with subwoofers. A graph or measurement of the monitor by itself is not a substitute for the response of the configured system.

How is the Manta built?
Drivers, amplification and DSP
Each monitor combines a 12-inch midbass driver with a 5.5-inch coaxial driver and a 1-inch silk-dome tweeter. Three channels of Hypex nCore Class D amplification and DSP are rated at 600 watts per speaker by Sigberg. Because amplification and crossover processing are inside the cabinet, the Manta does not require a separate power amplifier.
Cardioid cabinet
The cabinet uses acoustic vents to create a dual-cardioid radiation pattern. Sigberg says the design attenuates rear and side output by approximately 10–12 dB from 100–500 Hz, 16–20 dB from 500 Hz to 1 kHz, and 25 dB from 1–5 kHz. Those are manufacturer figures, not independent measurements reproduced by the Home Theater HiFi review.
The engineering goal is straightforward: reduce energy that would otherwise reflect from the front and side walls, especially through the midbass and midrange. Separate bass units can then be positioned at locations that work better for a particular room. This can make placement more forgiving than a conventional forward-firing speaker in some rooms, but it does not eliminate room modes, boundary effects or the need to experiment with subwoofer placement.
Inputs and connections
Sigberg lists analog RCA and balanced XLR inputs and through connections, optical and coaxial S/PDIF, and AES connections. The manufacturer states latency below 1 ms on analog inputs and below 2 ms on digital inputs. A DAC, preamp or streamer with RCA or XLR pre-outs is sufficient; a speaker-level amplifier is not required.
What frequency response and output can you expect?
Sigberg specifies 25–20,000 Hz within ±2.5 dB anechoically for the full system with subwoofers, and describes typical in-room bass extension of 18 Hz at -3 dB. These are manufacturer specifications and should not be read as monitor-only performance.
| Specification or result | What it refers to | Source and qualification |
|---|---|---|
| 25–20,000 Hz ±2.5 dB | Complete Manta system with subwoofers, anechoic specification | Sigberg product information; manufacturer claim |
| 18 Hz at -3 dB | Typical in-room bass extension | Sigberg product information; room-dependent manufacturer description |
| 122 dB maximum SPL at 1 m per speaker | Monitor output capability | Sigberg product information; manufacturer claim |
| Less than 0.5% THD at 96 dB/1 m above 100 Hz per speaker | Distortion condition for the monitor | Sigberg product information; manufacturer claim |
| Approximately 90 Hz roll-off | Monitor behavior when used with the designed subwoofer system | Home Theater HiFi review observation |
| -3 dB at 97.4 Hz relative to Spinorama’s reference | Monitor-only modeled/measurement dataset | Spinorama, vendor-origin data; medium data quality |
The 122 dB and less-than-0.5-percent figures are not independent laboratory results in the available review. They are useful indicators of the performance Sigberg is targeting, but buyers should keep the stated test distance, level and frequency condition attached to each number.

Does the Manta need subwoofers?
Yes, if you want the Manta as Sigberg designed it. The monitors are intended to hand off low frequencies around 90 Hz, and the initial product configuration includes two dedicated subwoofers. Running the monitors without the bass units would mean using only part of the system and would not represent the published 25 Hz-to-20 kHz full-system specification.
The dedicated bass units also provide the placement flexibility that is central to the design. You can place bass sources where room modes are better behaved while keeping the cardioid monitors in positions that support the listening image. The manufacturer says more bass units can be added, which may be useful in larger rooms or when smoother low-frequency coverage is a priority.
How does the cardioid design affect room integration?
Cardioid behavior reduces rearward and lateral radiation before it reaches nearby boundaries, so the direct sound can dominate more strongly at the listening position. In practice, that may reduce the severity of early wall reflections and make the speaker less sensitive to front-wall and side-wall proximity than a conventional omnidirectional cabinet.
It is not a guarantee of identical results in every room. The stated attenuation varies by frequency, begins at 100 Hz, and does not prevent the subwoofers from exciting room modes at very low frequencies. Furniture, listening distance, wall construction and the locations of the bass units still matter. Treat the cardioid pattern as a tool that improves the starting conditions, not as a replacement for measurement or sensible placement.
What did the independent Home Theater HiFi review test?
Carlo Lo Raso’s Home Theater HiFi review, published September 2, 2026, evaluated a pair of Manta monitors with two dual-driver 10D active sealed subwoofers. Its listening impressions, measurements and design discussion apply to that review configuration and room; they are not universal guarantees for every installation.
The publication characterized the system as straddling the accuracy associated with a studio monitor and the musicality of high-end home Hi-Fi speakers. That is the reviewer’s summary, not a manufacturer specification. The article also reproduces designer Thorbjørn Sigberg’s explanation that ports around the coaxial driver soften an off-axis response rise near 1.5 kHz, reducing the need for digital correction and helping reduce perceived hardness. This is the designer’s statement as quoted by the review.

The review’s central design observation matches the product concept: Manta is an active monitor/subwoofer system with DSP and amplification integrated from the outset. Its conclusions should therefore be read as an evaluation of the complete package rather than a review of a passive monitor that happens to accept a subwoofer later.
What do the Spinorama measurements actually tell you?
Spinorama’s Manta page identifies its dataset as vendor-origin data, with 36 horizontal and 36 vertical measurements and medium data quality. Spinorama lists a preference score of 3.39, or 5.02 with EQ, and theoretical scores of 6.82 and 8.05 with a perfect subwoofer. These are outputs from Spinorama’s scoring framework, not listener ratings, percentages or direct measurements of the complete Manta-plus-subwoofer system.
The page’s -3 dB point of 97.4 Hz is a monitor-only result relative to its reference. It should not be compared directly with Sigberg’s 25 Hz full-system specification or its typical 18 Hz in-room claim. The page also provides EQ settings, but the available evidence does not establish how those settings were implemented in the Home Theater HiFi listening evaluation or whether they represent every production configuration.

How should I connect and place the Manta?
Start with a line-level source and use the manufacturer’s placement guidance as a baseline. The system is active, so the signal path runs from a DAC, preamp or streamer into the monitors and their associated bass units rather than through a separate power amplifier.
- Choose the signal connection. Use RCA or balanced XLR pre-outs for analog operation, or one of the listed optical, coaxial S/PDIF or AES inputs for digital sources. Confirm that your source provides a variable or otherwise suitable line-level output.
- Set the initial front-wall distance. Position the monitors 10–50 cm (4–20 inches) from the back wall, then adjust while listening or measuring.
- Protect side-wall clearance. Try to keep at least 40 cm (15 inches) from each side wall where the room allows.
- Set toe-in conservatively. Sigberg recommends 0–10 degrees of toe-in. Begin near the lower end and adjust for center-image focus and tonal balance.
- Establish symmetrical spacing. Speaker spacing should be at least as wide as the distance from the speakers to the listening position. Keep the left and right geometry as symmetrical as practical.
- Use the supplied stand angle. The included stand tilts the monitor by 4 degrees, so account for that fixed angle when aligning the acoustic axis with your listening position.
- Place the subwoofers for the room, not merely beside the monitors. The system’s rationale is that separate bass units can occupy locations that produce smoother low-frequency response. Evaluate more than one position if possible.
- Fine-tune with familiar recordings or measurements. Change one variable at a time, especially distance to boundaries, toe-in and bass-unit location. The manufacturer’s figures are starting points, not a room-specific calibration.
Sigberg says latency is below 1 ms on analog inputs and below 2 ms on digital inputs. That should be adequate for normal music playback, but anyone integrating the system with video equipment should verify lip-sync behavior in the complete source chain.
How much does the Sigberg Audio Manta system cost?
The available prices do not describe one consistently defined, single-currency offer. The manufacturer’s product page displays 300,000 NOK, while Sigberg’s comparison page lists Manta from 280,000 NOK. Home Theater HiFi reports a $30,000 MSRP for the full system it reviewed. These figures come from different pages and contexts, so they should not be converted or treated as interchangeable without a current quotation.

What purchasing and support terms are advertised?
Sigberg’s product information advertises a 60-day home trial, worldwide shipping with import handling, lifetime support, on-site setup in Norway and remote sessions outside Norway. On-site setup elsewhere is described as available by request. These are service terms shown by the manufacturer and may change, so confirm them in writing with the quotation.
The product page also displayed an order-queue shipping date of October 17, 2026. That date is already past relative to this review’s October 26, 2026 publication context and should not be treated as a current delivery promise. Request the present lead time before placing an order.
How does Manta compare with Sigberg’s other systems?
Sigberg’s own comparison page positions Manta alongside Saranna and SBS Gen 2. This is a manufacturer-published orientation, not an independent head-to-head test. The useful differences are system architecture, intended room size, directivity and maximum SPL.
| Family | System type | Cardioid listed? | Recommended room size | Maximum SPL | Listed price position |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Manta | Modular monitor system with subwoofers | Yes | Medium/large | 122 dB | 300,000 NOK on product page; comparison page from 280,000 NOK |
| Saranna | Floorstander | Yes | Medium/large | 116 dB | Not stated in the available comparison details |
| SBS Gen 2 | Modular system with subwoofers | No | Small/medium | 114 dB | Not stated in the available comparison details |
Manta is the choice in this table for buyers who specifically want the highest listed output, a cardioid monitor, and the ability to position dedicated bass units separately. The comparison does not establish how the three families sound against one another in the same room or under identical measurement conditions.

- System-level design: The monitor, DSP, amplification and subwoofer integration are conceived as one product rather than assembled after purchase.
- Controlled directivity: The cardioid cabinet is intended to reduce wall-reflected energy through much of the midbass and midrange.
- High stated headroom: Sigberg claims 122 dB maximum SPL at 1 m per speaker, useful for large rooms and demanding playback when the rest of the system is configured appropriately.
- Flexible bass placement: Dedicated subwoofers can be moved independently of the monitors to address room behavior.
- Broad connection options: RCA, XLR, optical, coaxial S/PDIF and AES inputs are listed.
- Low signal latency: The manufacturer lists sub-1-ms analog and sub-2-ms digital latency.
- Support-oriented purchase model: The advertised trial, setup assistance and lifetime support may matter as much as the hardware for a made-to-order system at this price.
What are the limitations and risks?
- It is expensive and configuration-sensitive: The published NOK figures differ by page, and the review’s dollar MSRP describes a specific monitor-and-subwoofer package.
- The monitors are not full-range on their own: Their intended roll-off near 90 Hz means the dedicated bass units are part of the product concept, not an optional afterthought.
- Manufacturer claims dominate the headline specifications: Output, distortion, response and cardioid attenuation figures should be treated as stated specifications unless independently reproduced.
- Room integration still requires work: Cardioid radiation reduces some boundary energy but cannot remove low-frequency room modes or guarantee a uniform response.
- Spinorama evidence has limited scope: The data are vendor-origin, medium-quality and monitor-focused; modeled preference scores are not complete-system listening results.
- Availability can change: Trial, shipping, setup, queue and support terms need confirmation at the time of purchase.
Who should consider the Manta?
The Manta makes the most sense for a buyer who wants an active, high-output system and is prepared to treat placement, bass integration and source connectivity as part of the installation. It is particularly relevant when reducing midrange wall reflections and locating subwoofers independently are more valuable than owning a simple pair of passive floorstanders.
Best Value
- 5-in-1 Connectivity: Equipped with a 4K HDMI port, a 5 Gbps USB-C data port, two 5 Gbps USB-A ports, and a USB C 100W PD-IN port. Note: The USB C 100W PD-IN port supports only charging and does not support data transfer devices such as headphones or speakers.
- Powerful Pass-Through Charging: Supports up to 85W pass-through charging so you can power up your laptop while you use the hub. Note: Pass-through charging requires a charger (not included). Note: To achieve full power for iPad, we recommend using a 45W wall charger.
- Transfer Files in Seconds: Move files to and from your laptop at speeds of up to 5 Gbps via the USB-C and USB-A data ports. Note: The USB C 5Gbps Data port does not support video output.
- HD Display: Connect to the HDMI port to stream or mirror content to an external monitor in resolutions of up to 4K@30Hz. Note: The USB-C ports do not support video output.
- What You Get: Anker 332 USB-C Hub (5-in-1), welcome guide, our worry-free 18-month warranty, and friendly customer service.
It is a weaker fit for someone seeking a compact, inexpensive, plug-and-play speaker pair, or for anyone who does not want dedicated subwoofers in the room. The price and specialist purchase process also make a home trial or in-room demonstration more important than relying on headline specifications alone.
What should you verify before ordering?
- Request a written quote that identifies the number and model of bass units, stands, cables, delivery, taxes and setup.
- Ask which of the 280,000 NOK or 300,000 NOK references applies to your intended configuration.
- Confirm current production and delivery timing rather than relying on an expired queue date.
- Check that your DAC, preamp or streamer has compatible RCA, XLR or supported digital outputs.
- Measure the room and identify realistic monitor and subwoofer locations before committing.
- Clarify how the 60-day trial works in your country, including return shipping and import handling.
- Ask whether remote setup support is included for your location and what an on-site visit outside Norway would cost.
- Request the latest documentation for firmware, DSP updates and any user-adjustable settings.
Is the Sigberg Audio Manta worth it?
The Manta is a technically ambitious active system whose value depends on wanting its complete approach: cardioid monitors, dedicated bass units, DSP, substantial built-in amplification and manufacturer-supported setup. Its published response and output targets are impressive, and the independent review found a combination of studio-monitor accuracy and home-audio musicality in the tested system.
The sensible verdict is conditional rather than universal. If your room, budget and source equipment suit a large, made-to-order active system, Manta offers capabilities that a conventional passive speaker package does not. If you need a simpler or less costly route, the requirement for dedicated subwoofers and the unresolved difference between published price references are reasons to look elsewhere or insist on a thorough audition first.

Can the Manta be used with a home-theater processor?
Yes, provided the processor supplies suitable line-level outputs such as RCA or balanced XLR. Verify channel routing, bass-management behavior and video synchronization with the processor because the Manta’s own active architecture does not guarantee that every theater workflow will be configured correctly.
Does cardioid behavior mean I can place the monitors directly against a wall?
No. The manufacturer still recommends a 10–50 cm distance from the back wall and clearance from side walls. Cardioid radiation reduces some reflected energy, but boundary loading and the room’s low-frequency modes remain installation variables.
Are the published Spinorama scores independent ratings?
They are calculated outputs from Spinorama’s scoring framework using vendor-origin data. The page reports medium data quality and separates monitor data from theoretical subwoofer scenarios, so the scores should not be read as listener reviews or as a complete-system laboratory rating.
What is included in the Home Theater HiFi review price?
The review identifies a pair of Manta monitors and a pair of dual-driver 10D active sealed subwoofers and reports a $30,000 MSRP for that system. It does not establish that every accessory, stand, delivery charge or installation service is included in that figure.
How can I get the current delivery estimate?
Ask Sigberg for a written lead time tied to your exact configuration and destination. The product page’s October 17, 2026 queue date is no longer a future estimate, and production schedules can change for a built-to-order product.
