Samsung Smart Manager is generally a legitimate, built-in Galaxy feature when it came pre-installed by Samsung, but the name alone does not prove that an app is safe. Samsung used Smart Manager on older Galaxy devices, especially those running Android 6.0 and below. On newer phones, comparable checks are under Battery and Device Care or Device Care. Google Play also has unrelated apps called Smart Manager, including one that explicitly says it is not antivirus software. Identify the developer, package name, Galaxy model, and Android version before trusting any instructions. A Samsung scan can report that the device is secure, but that status is not independent proof that every threat has been detected. Keep the phone updated, use trusted app stores, and treat scan results as one layer of protection rather than a guarantee.
What does Smart Manager mean on a Samsung phone?
Smart Manager is not one universally identified application. Samsung used the name for a device-management feature that combined battery, storage, memory, and security functions on older Galaxy hardware. Newer Galaxy software moved related controls into Battery and Device Care or Device Care. Separately, developers have published unrelated Google Play apps using the same name.
Samsung’s older built-in feature
Samsung Ireland describes Smart Manager as an older-device dashboard. It summarizes battery condition, storage use, memory use, and system security, then offers quick optimization actions. Those actions can include deleting unnecessary files, closing background applications, scanning for malware, and blocking phishing attacks. The exact controls depend on the model and software version, so the description should not be read as a promise that every Galaxy phone has every option.
Newer Samsung settings
Samsung’s current UK support guidance places the equivalent security check in Device Care on Android 7 and later devices. The labels can vary by release: you may see Battery and Device Care, Device Care, or a slightly different wording within Settings. A missing Smart Manager icon therefore does not by itself indicate that security scanning has been removed.

Unrelated apps with the same name
A Google Play listing called Smart Manager App is published by SNAIKI ZINEB under package org.smart.manager. Its description says it provides shortcuts to Android storage, app-management, and security settings and explicitly says it does not claim to be antivirus software. The listing also shows developer-provided declarations of no data collected or shared and encryption in transit; those declarations can change.
A separate listing called Smart Manager is published by CREVERSE, Inc. and concerns education management, including class videos and activity pictures. It is not Samsung’s phone-security feature. These examples are why the name must be treated as an identifier to investigate, not as a safety certification.
Is Samsung Smart Manager safe to use?
If Smart Manager arrived as a Samsung system feature on a supported Galaxy device, it is an official part of that device’s software. Its documented functions are maintenance and security checks, not a guarantee of perfect malware detection. If you downloaded an app with that name, safety depends on the exact developer, package, permissions, privacy disclosures, and provenance.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesWhat Samsung’s scan result actually tells you
Samsung says a completed scan reports whether the device is secure. That is the product’s reported result at that moment. The official material does not provide an independent malware-detection rate, false-positive rate, or evidence that a scan blocks every possible threat. A green or secure message should therefore be treated as one signal, not proof that the phone contains no malicious code.
Why the name is insufficient
Two apps can share the same visible title while having different developers, code, permissions, and purposes. Samsung’s documentation about its own feature does not establish that a similarly named Play Store utility is safe. Before following a guide written for Samsung Smart Manager, verify that the app was pre-installed on your Galaxy model or that its listing identifies the expected developer and package.
How can I identify the Smart Manager installed on my device?
Use the phone’s model and software information together with the app’s identity. This avoids applying instructions for an older Samsung feature to a newer Device Care screen or to an unrelated download.
- Open Settings → About phone (or About tablet) and note the exact model number and Android version.
- In Settings → Apps, search for Smart Manager. Open its app-information page and record the developer information, package identifier if shown, permissions, and whether it is marked as a system app.
- If the app came from Google Play, open its listing and compare the developer name and package identifier with the app-information page. Do not rely on the title or icon alone.
- Check whether the phone instead exposes Battery and Device Care or Device Care. A newer menu is normal on many Galaxy models.
- If the app is a separately installed utility, read its current permissions and privacy disclosures before granting access. Samsung’s built-in-feature documentation does not cover that app.
The package identifier org.smart.manager, for example, belongs to the SNAIKI ZINEB listing described above, not to a universal Samsung component. A different package or developer requires a separate assessment.

How do I scan a Samsung phone for malware?
Use the path that matches the Android generation. Samsung’s labels vary by model and release, so a nearby wording can be expected.
Android 7 and later
- Open Settings.
- Select Battery and Device Care. On some phones the menu is simply Device Care.
- Tap Device protection.
- Choose Scan phone.
- Wait for the check to finish and read the result shown by the device.
This is the manual path in Samsung UK’s support guidance, updated May 14, 2026. The same page notes that terminology varies with the operating-system version. If an item is absent, use the Settings search field for Device protection or scan phone rather than assuming the phone has no security controls.
Android 6.0 and below
- Open Apps from the device’s app screen or Settings.
- Launch Smart Manager.
- Open Security.
- Tap Scan Now.
- Review the result and any action the phone offers.
Samsung lists this as the route for Android 6 and below. Older models may use different icons or place Smart Manager in a folder, but the security section is the relevant destination.
If the menu labels do not match
Do not install a random app named Smart Manager just to reproduce a screenshot. First confirm the Android version, search Settings for Device Care or security, and consult documentation for the exact model. A carrier variant, regional firmware, or software update can change the visible labels.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →What does Samsung Smart Manager protect?
The feature combines maintenance controls with a security scan. Its documented scope is narrower than “the phone is completely protected.”
- Device checks: Samsung describes checks for system security and, on newer devices, a Device protection scan.
- Maintenance: Older Smart Manager descriptions include battery, storage, and memory summaries plus options to remove unnecessary files or close background apps.
- Threat-related actions: Samsung Ireland describes malware scanning and phishing blocking as quick-optimization functions on supported older devices.
- Version dependence: Features and menu names depend on the Galaxy model, Android release, region, and firmware.
These are Samsung’s feature descriptions. They do not establish that every installed application, downloaded file, account, or network connection is continuously inspected.
How does Knox Active Protection differ from Smart Manager?
Knox Active Protection is a separate set of system-integrity and kernel defenses, not simply another name for the Smart Manager scan. Device support and configuration determine whether the feature is present or can be enabled.

System-partition integrity
Samsung Knox documentation describes DM-Verity, which checks the integrity of code and data in the system partition. If protected system content has been altered, an integrity check can detect that change.
Kernel protection
The same documentation describes Real-Time Kernel Protection, which detects and prevents unauthorized access to or modification of selected kernel structures. This addresses attacks against critical operating-system components rather than acting as a general-purpose scanner for every user file.
The documented boundary
Samsung explicitly states: “It specifically does not include apps installed by the user or the associated user data.” That sentence refers to the described system-partition protection scope. It means Knox Active Protection should not be presented as a complete inspection of all third-party apps and personal data.
Availability and activation
Knox documentation says support varies by device and configuration. Non-enterprise users may optionally enable the feature through Smart Manager on supported models. The presence of a Knox reference, therefore, is not evidence that every Galaxy phone has identical protection or settings.
Are Samsung’s antivirus partnerships a current guarantee?
No. Samsung’s partner references are tied to dates, models, generations, and regions.

A Samsung Global Newsroom article dated November 4, 2015 described four Smart Manager areas—Battery, Storage, RAM, and Security—and said Samsung devices provided anti-malware through a partnership with Intel Security. That was a historical description of the products and arrangements discussed at that time. It should not be converted into a universal claim about every current Galaxy device.
The current McAfee reference
Samsung UK’s support page, updated May 14, 2026, discusses McAfee anti-malware pre-installed on specified Galaxy product generations and presents Knox as another layer. The page does not make that arrangement universal across all models or regions. Check the documentation and settings for the exact device before assuming that a particular security component is installed.

Why the distinction matters
Security software can change when a phone receives a major Android update, when a model leaves its supported generation, or when regional firmware differs. A partner name in an old article is useful historical context, not a substitute for checking the software currently running on the phone.
Why can’t I find Smart Manager on my Galaxy?
The most common explanation is a software-generation change: Samsung moved the functions into Battery and Device Care or Device Care on newer devices. Other possibilities include a different model, regional firmware, a carrier-customized menu, or an app that was never part of that phone’s software.

Check the Android version first
Use Settings → About phone/tablet → Android version. Samsung’s documented split places Smart Manager instructions on Android 6 and below, while Android 7 and later use Device protection inside Device Care.
Search Settings rather than the app drawer
Enter Device Care, Device protection, or scan phone in Settings search. The function can exist without a standalone Smart Manager icon.
Do not replace a missing system feature with a namesake download
Installing a similarly titled Play Store app may give you shortcuts or an unrelated service rather than Samsung’s scanner. Verify the developer and package before granting permissions, especially when the listing does not claim to be antivirus software.

What security steps should I take after running a scan?
Use the scan as part of routine device hygiene. Samsung’s support guidance emphasizes several controls that remain useful even when a scan reports a secure result.
- Install Android and app updates when they are offered for your model.
- Use Google Play or Galaxy Store rather than unknown download sites.
- Avoid unfamiliar links and be cautious with messages that ask you to install an app or enter credentials.
- Review permissions for newly installed or rarely used apps, especially access that does not match the app’s purpose.
- Use strong, unique passwords and protect important accounts with available sign-in safeguards.
- Exercise caution on unsecured Wi-Fi networks.
- Run the appropriate Device protection or Smart Manager scan after updating or when the phone behaves unexpectedly.
If the result is secure but suspicious behavior continues, document the symptoms, review recent installations and permissions, and check the exact model’s support instructions. A scan status does not explain every battery, storage, pop-up, or account problem.
Is Smart Manager enough on its own?
It is useful for the checks Samsung provides, but it is not a complete security guarantee. The practical decision depends on which software you have and what protection you need.
| Your situation | Best interpretation | Next action |
|---|---|---|
| Older Galaxy phone with Samsung Smart Manager pre-installed | Use the built-in Security section and treat its result as a device-reported status. | Follow Smart Manager → Security → Scan Now, then keep software and apps updated. |
| Newer Galaxy phone without a Smart Manager icon | The equivalent control is probably in Device Care. | Open Settings → Battery and Device Care → Device protection → Scan phone, adapting labels to the model. |
| Downloaded app sharing the name | Samsung’s documentation does not establish that this app is safe or that it scans for malware. | Check developer, package, permissions, privacy disclosures, and provenance before use. |
| Phone with Knox Active Protection support | System and kernel integrity defenses add a layer but do not cover user-installed apps and associated data in the documented scope. | Confirm support and configuration for the exact model and continue normal app and account hygiene. |
What is the safest way to interpret the verdict?
Call Samsung’s built-in feature legitimate when it is part of the supported device, but describe its result precisely: it is a scan outcome reported by that software. Do not generalize a historical partner statement to every current phone, and do not transfer Samsung’s assurances to an unrelated app that happens to use the same name. Identity, software version, scope, and current device documentation are the four checks that prevent most misunderstandings.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is Smart Manager installed on every Samsung Galaxy phone?
No. Samsung’s own instructions separate Android 6.0-and-below devices from Android 7-and-later devices, and model or regional firmware can change the menus. A phone may provide the same type of check under Device Care without ever showing a Smart Manager icon.
Can a Smart Manager scan prove that my phone has no malware?
No independent detection or false-positive rate is provided in Samsung’s official material. The scan can report the device as secure, but that is a status from the built-in check rather than a guarantee that every threat or compromised account has been found.
Why does a Google Play Smart Manager app say it is not antivirus software?
The listing by SNAIKI ZINEB describes a shortcut utility for Android settings and explicitly limits its claim. It is separate from Samsung’s older built-in feature, so its title and icon should not be used as evidence that it performs Samsung’s security scan.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Are Knox protections the same as an app scanner?
No. Knox Active Protection focuses on system-partition integrity and selected kernel structures, with support varying by device and configuration. Samsung’s documentation says the described scope excludes user-installed apps and their associated user data.
