It specified support for the latest three Firefox versions and latest two Safari versions at that time. That announcement is now archived, so it describes the 2024 rollout—not a guarantee that the same browser builds remain supported today.
Which browsers and operating systems did Microsoft include?
In Message Center announcement MC781587, published April 19, 2024 and updated April 20, Microsoft listed this coverage:
| # | Preview | Product | Price | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 |
|
Logitech V220 Cordless Optical Mouse for Notebooks (Plum Purple) | $29.99 | Buy on Amazon |
| Browser | Operating systems named | Version scope in the 2024 announcement |
|---|---|---|
| Firefox | Windows, macOS, and Linux | Latest three versions |
| Safari | macOS | Latest two versions |
The notice did not provide fixed browser version numbers. It also did not list Safari for Linux, or establish complete feature parity across the supported browser and operating-system combinations. Microsoft 365 Message Center Archive: MC781587
Does that announcement establish current browser support?
No. MC781587 is marked expired in the Message Center archive. Its “latest” version counts describe the rule Microsoft gave for the 2024 rollout; they should not be treated as a current list of supported versions.

Microsoft later announced that Teams on the web would require an ES2022-compliant browser version beginning May 15, 2026. Users on browser versions that do not meet that requirement are directed to update. This is a separate, later requirement—not a replacement version count for Firefox or Safari. Check Microsoft’s current browser prerequisites before relying on a particular browser build. Microsoft Teams Blog, March 2026 update
What did Linux Teams support mean?
The 2024 notice specifically included Firefox on Linux. It did not say that every browser on Linux was supported.
Microsoft’s separate November 7, 2022 announcement described the Teams progressive web app (PWA) on Linux through Edge and Chrome, calling it a feature of the current web client. The post listed capabilities including custom backgrounds, gallery view, reactions, raise hand, large gallery, Together mode, notifications, a dock icon, application auto-start, and access to system app permissions. Those statements belong to the 2022 PWA announcement; they do not establish that every listed capability remains available in every current browser configuration. Microsoft described the MC781587 rollout as immediate and automatic, with no advance administrator action required. It suggested that organizations notify users and update internal documentation.
For the transition, Microsoft said users could switch back to classic Teams for Web until mid-May 2024, including in tenants whose Teams update policy was set to New Teams only. That was a temporary 2024 option, not a current setting to expect.
