Its self-managed plans provide unusually generous vCPU, RAM, NVMe storage, bandwidth, dedicated IPs, root access, snapshots, DDoS protection and a stated 99.99% uptime guarantee. The introductory prices look compelling, but renewals are substantially higher, control panels and backup software cost extra, and an independent 2025 test found mediocre performance and very slow support.
That makes the service a conditional buy: technically capable developers and teams may get strong capacity for the money, while businesses wanting a ready-to-run WordPress or business server should compare fully managed VPS services.

NVMe storage should help database and file workloads, while multiple dedicated addresses are useful for separate sites, mail services or applications that need distinct IPs. “Unlimited” bandwidth is listed for the three larger tiers; the 4-vCPU plan has a stated 5TB allowance, so high-transfer projects should not assume every plan has the same policy.

These are self-managed servers. Root access gives you control, not an administrator: you remain responsible for configuring services, hardening SSH, installing updates and monitoring the machine.
How much does InMotion VPS renew at?
The low headline prices are promotional and term-dependent. The official pricing display shows the cheapest 4-vCPU offer on a 24-month term at $9.99 per month, renewing at $16.99 per month. Other offers for the same tier start between $13.99 and $16.99 and renew between $26.99 and $36.99. The renewal price, rather than the introductory payment, should drive your budget.

For perspective, paying $9.99 monthly for 24 months totals $239.76 before any extras; the stated $16.99 renewal equals $203.88 for each subsequent 12-month period. The 16-vCPU introductory price of $39.99 becomes $111.99 monthly at renewal, or $1,343.88 per year. These calculations use the displayed monthly figures and exclude taxes, add-ons and any change to the provider’s pricing.
Check the checkout term, renewal amount and add-ons before placing an order. A plan that looks inexpensive for the first contract can be poor value if you need its larger tier for several years.

Is InMotion VPS managed or unmanaged?
The plans described above are unmanaged, which InMotion calls self-managed. You choose the operating system and software, apply security patches, perform migrations, configure firewalls and install or license a control panel. InMotion’s stated support scope covers hardware, the network and data-center infrastructure, not routine administration of your applications.
What managed service adds
InMotion’s managed VPS option uses the same underlying hardware and data centers but adds provider assistance with initial server setup, migrations, cPanel/WHM maintenance, operating-system and security patching, software installation and broader server troubleshooting. It is positioned for businesses without an in-house server administrator. The available data does not provide managed-plan prices, so the difference must be evaluated from an actual quote rather than inferred from self-managed pricing.

Which model fits your workload?
- Choose self-managed if you can use SSH, secure Linux services, maintain backups, diagnose web-stack errors and accept responsibility for outages caused by configuration or updates.
- Choose managed if downtime has a business cost, your team does not routinely administer Linux, or you want provider help with migrations, patching and control-panel maintenance.
Does InMotion VPS include cPanel?
No. cPanel and Control Web Panel are optional rather than included in the listed self-managed price. You must select, license and maintain a panel if you want graphical hosting administration.

On-demand snapshots are included, but a snapshot feature is not automatically the same as an independent, scheduled backup system. Decide how you will retain recoverable copies outside the VPS before deploying production data.

How does InMotion VPS performance compare?
Independent evidence is mixed. In a Tom’s Hardware review published February 4, 2025, the tested VPS was noticeably slower than many competing services. Its overall WordPress Benchmark score was 6.3, compared with 8.4 for Liquid Web in that cited comparison. That is one test configuration, not a guarantee that every data center, tier or application will perform identically, but it is a meaningful warning for latency-sensitive workloads.
The same review recorded an 11-day wait for a support response while troubleshooting SSL. After the response, the reviewer still could not get the site to load securely over HTTPS. Tom’s Hardware summarized the service as having good specifications for the price and solid control-panel software, but mediocre performance, slow support, an SSL failure in testing and hidden fees.
In practical terms, the generous CPU and memory numbers do not prove faster application response. Virtualization contention, software configuration, geographic distance to visitors, database tuning and web-server caching can all matter. If speed is critical, test the exact tier and location during the refund period rather than relying on resource counts alone.
Is InMotion VPS good for WordPress?
It can host WordPress effectively when the buyer is comfortable managing the entire stack, but it is not the safest choice for someone expecting turnkey WordPress administration. You receive enough memory and storage for demanding sites, root access for custom caching or containers, and snapshots for point-in-time recovery. However, you must configure HTTPS, updates, PHP, the database, firewall rules, malware controls and backups yourself on a self-managed plan.

The 6.3 WordPress Benchmark result and the reported SSL-support delay mean agencies and store owners should test page generation, checkout flows and TLS before moving a live site. A managed plan may be worth its higher, undisclosed price if your team cannot quickly repair a broken certificate or web stack.

What security, uptime and networking protections are included?
The product page lists always-on DDoS protection, 1Gbps networking and a 99.99% uptime guarantee. It also lists 24/7 hardware and network support and data centers in multiple global locations. Those provisions protect the infrastructure layer, but they do not replace application security or administration.
- You still need to patch the operating system and every public-facing package.
- Root credentials, SSH keys, firewall policies and least-privilege accounts remain your responsibility on self-managed service.
- A provider uptime guarantee does not promise that your WordPress installation, SSL configuration or database will be healthy.
- Snapshots should be tested by restoring them; an untested recovery point is not a recovery plan.
Who should buy InMotion VPS?
The best customer is a developer, agency or technical team that values control and capacity more than hands-off operations. The service is less attractive when support speed, predictable long-term pricing or managed maintenance matters more than raw allocations.

- Calculate the post-promotion budget. Write down the renewal price for your chosen term, then add any control panel, backup and licensing costs.
- Select the administration model. Confirm whether you are ordering self-managed or managed service; do not assume the provider will patch or migrate a self-managed server.

A 99.99% annual availability target corresponds to roughly 52.6 minutes of downtime in a 365-day year. The product page states the percentage, but guarantee remedies, exclusions and measurement rules should be checked in the current service agreement.
Are snapshots the same as a complete backup service?
