As of the October 4, 2026 status checks, Apple’s status listing showed Apple Pay, Apple Card, and Wallet as available, and StatusGator reported Apple Pay operational. Some users had nevertheless reported problems. Those reports do not confirm a widespread Apple outage, and the available information does not establish that Apple fixed a service incident today.
Is Apple Pay down right now?
The status sources checked did not confirm a widespread outage at the time of their October 4 checks. Apple’s System Status page listed Apple Pay, Apple Card, Apple Account Card, and Wallet as available. StatusGator also showed Apple Pay as operational at 12:42 UTC on October 4, 2026, while displaying user-submitted reports of trouble that day. The reports included people in Australia, England, Northern Ireland, and the United States, but individual reports are not proof of a service-wide incident. StatusGator’s Apple Pay status page.
A status page describes declared or monitored service status; it cannot confirm that every card, device, merchant terminal, issuer, or Wallet feature is working for every user. The available October 4 evidence does not identify an Apple-confirmed incident, its cause, or a fix.
What to do if Apple Pay or Wallet is failing
- Check Apple’s live status: Open Apple System Status and look for Apple Pay, Apple Card, and Wallet. Status can change after a snapshot is taken.
- Try another payment method if a transaction cannot proceed: This avoids relying on a payment that is currently failing; it does not diagnose or repair the underlying issue.
- Contact your card issuer about a card-specific decline: The status information cannot determine whether a particular transaction was declined by an issuer or affected by an account issue.
- Consider where the failure occurs: A service-status listing cannot establish whether an individual problem comes from the card, device, merchant terminal, or another part of the payment chain.
What happened in the previous confirmed Apple payment outage?
A separate outage on May 16, 2025 affected Apple Card, Apple Cash, Apple Pay, and Wallet. Tom’s Guide reported that Apple Card and Apple Cash returned before Apple Pay and Wallet, and quoted an Apple spokesperson saying, “The previous issues have since been resolved.” Apple did not explain the cause or the steps used to resolve that earlier outage. This historical event is not evidence of an October 2026 incident. Tom’s Guide’s May 16, 2025 coverage.
