iPolish lets you change your nail color on the fly using specialized press-on acrylic nails, a Bluetooth-connected rechargeable Magic Wand, and a mobile app. The product is real, but it is not electronic nail polish or a device for natural nails; as of August 18, 2026, iPolish remains primarily a pre-order system.
The concept is straightforward: choose a color in the iPolish app, transfer the selection to the Magic Wand, and briefly insert each nail into the wand. The nail’s built-in display changes color and retains that color without continuous power, according to iPolish and CES demonstrations.
The important qualification is that iPolish is an early-generation beauty-tech product. The starter kit currently costs $95 in the United States, the nails are not designed for routine reuse, the shapes cannot be freely filed, and independent evidence about long-term durability remains limited.

iPolish is a digital press-on nail system. The system combines specialized acrylic press-on nails with a rechargeable Magic Wand and an iPolish smartphone app. The nails contain the color-changing display technology; the phone and wand provide the control mechanism.

That distinction matters because iPolish does not change the color of natural nails, ordinary acrylics, or conventional nail polish. The user applies a compatible iPolish nail to each natural nail, then uses the wand to set the selected color.
According to the iPolish FAQ, the company describes the embedded technology as proprietary electrophoretic nanopolymers. The concept is broadly comparable to electrophoretic displays such as e-ink: a small electrical signal moves colored material within the display, and the display can retain its state without continuously drawing power.
The public material does not provide a complete technical explanation of the display construction, electrical tolerances, environmental testing, or expected failure rate. Engadget reported that the company demonstrated the system at CES but had not yet established real-world reliability for customers. The most accurate description is therefore “a proprietary electrophoretic color-changing display embedded in a press-on nail,” not a fully documented consumer display standard.

iPolish changes nail color through a short sequence involving the app, Bluetooth, the wand, and the display inside each nail:
- Charge the Magic Wand. The wand is rechargeable and supplies the activation signal to the nail.
- Open the iPolish app and connect the wand. The official iPhone app listing and Google Play listing describe Bluetooth-based control.
- Select a color or palette. The app supports color selection, curated looks, custom palettes, saved favorites, profiles, and palette sharing, according to the App Store description.
- Send the selection to the wand. The app transfers the relevant color information to the connected Magic Wand.
- Insert one nail into the activation point. The nail tip must make contact with the wand’s internal activation points. The nail should be inserted gently and in the correct orientation.
- Hold the nail in position until the change completes. Engadget reported that CES demonstrations took approximately five seconds per nail.
- Repeat the process for the other nails. The user activates each nail individually rather than changing the whole manicure at once.
The Magic Wand applies a small charge to the display inside the nail. iPolish says the charge does not affect the wearer because the activation does not involve electrical contact with the skin. The nail does not contain a user-replaceable battery, and the nail is intended to retain its selected color after the wand is removed.
The app is not sufficient by itself. The app is a preview and control interface, but full color-changing functionality requires compatible iPolish nails and the Magic Wand.
How many colors does iPolish support?
iPolish currently advertises more than 300 available colors, while CES-era demonstrations and company representatives referred to more than 400 colors. The current official FAQ is the better current reference, but the discrepancy should be treated as an inconsistent public claim rather than silently reduced to one definitive number.
“More than 300 colors” also does not necessarily mean that iPolish offers the same variety of finishes as conventional nail polish. The available material does not establish equivalent selections for chrome, glitter, magnetic, jelly, shimmer, detailed nail art, or multicolor gradients. A large digital color palette is not automatically the same thing as a large nail-art catalog.

When will iPolish ship?

Are iPolish nails reusable?

Is iPolish waterproof and suitable for daily wear?
