Remix brings routing, data handling, server rendering and browser interaction together for React applications. But “Remix” now refers to more than one point in the framework’s evolution: Remix v2 users seeking the latest framework features are directed to React Router v7, while current Remix guidance still presents Remix as a full-stack TypeScript framework. This introduction explains the approach and how to choose the right documentation.
What does “full-stack” mean in Remix?
A full-stack framework connects parts of an application that might otherwise be assembled separately: routing, server-side request handling, rendering, and client-side interaction. Current Remix guidance describes typed routing and middleware, server rendering followed by browser hydration, and use of the web platform’s Request and Response APIs. These pieces let an application handle a user’s navigation and the data needed for a page within a coordinated framework rather than treating the browser UI as the whole application. See the current Remix Start Here guidance.
In the React Router framework approach, route modules can define data loading and mutations alongside the UI. A loader supplies data for a route; an action handles a mutation, such as submitting a form. Route-based conventions help coordinate those operations with navigation and pending states. The specifics depend on the mode and version you use, so follow the documentation for the generation your project actually uses.
How React Router’s three modes differ
React Router offers three modes, adding framework support as you move from Declarative to Data to Framework. More built-in conventions can reduce the amount of architecture a team must design, while providing less freedom to shape it independently. The official modes guide describes these distinctions:

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
| Mode | What it provides | When it may fit |
|---|---|---|
| Declarative | Basic routing. | A project that needs navigation between routes without the additional route-based data and framework features. |
| Data | Declarative routing plus route-based data loading, actions, and pending states. | An application that benefits from coordinating route data and mutations with navigation, but does not need Framework Mode’s additional conventions. |
| Framework | Data Mode plus a Vite plugin, type-safe route APIs, code splitting, and SPA, server-rendered, and static rendering strategies. | A project that wants more integrated application structure and a choice of rendering strategy. |
These modes are not a performance ranking. Choose by the work your application needs: whether data loading and mutations should be route-based, what rendering strategy suits the product, and how much architectural control the team wants to retain.
Is Remix dead, or did it become React Router?
For people asking whether Remix is “dead,” the useful answer is that the framework’s naming and product direction changed. The official Remix v2 documentation says the latest version of Remix is now React Router v7 and points readers seeking the latest framework features to React Router’s documentation. The November 22, 2024 React Router v7 announcement explains that Remix capabilities were brought back into React Router as “framework mode.” Remix co-founder Michael Jackson wrote, “We encourage all Remix v2 users to upgrade to React Router v7.” That recommendation is specifically about Remix v2 users moving to the newer framework release.

- 5-in-1 USB-C Hub: Experience comprehensive connectivity featuring a Power Delivery input, two USB-A 2.0 ports, a USB-A 3.0 port, and an HDMI port. (Note: The USB-C power delivery input port is only for connecting an external wall charger to power your laptop and cannot power peripheral devices.)
- 90W Pass-Through Charging: Achieve optimal charging with 90W pass-through power to your laptop, supported by a total input of 100W, with the hub reserving 10W for operational efficiency. (Note: Wall charger not included.)
- Quick Data Transfers: Accelerate your productivity with rapid data transfers using a high-speed 5Gbps USB 3.0 port and two 480Mbps USB 2.0 ports.
- 4K HDMI Display: Enhance your visual experience with a hub capable of delivering 4K resolution at 30Hz in both mirror and extend modes. Please note that this hub is compatible with MacBook (macOS 12 and newer), Windows 10 and 11, ChromeOS, and laptops equipped with DP Alt Mode and Power Delivery. Note: This device is not compatible with Linux.
- What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (5-in-1, 4K HDMI), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.
At the same time, current Remix guidance describes Remix as a full-stack TypeScript framework. That makes it important to identify the version and docs behind a tutorial: an older Remix v2 guide and current React Router Framework Mode documentation do not necessarily use the same setup or terminology. For new work seeking the latest capabilities associated with Remix v2, start with React Router Framework Mode installation. Use the current Remix guide when you specifically want the current Remix guidance.
How to choose a rendering strategy and deployment target
Framework Mode supports SPA, server-rendered, and static rendering strategies. The right fit depends on what the application needs at runtime and where it will be deployed; the framework does not make one strategy universally best. Consider these questions before settling on a setup:

- Does the app need server rendering? If the chosen strategy relies on a running server, select a deployment target and runtime that can support it.
- Can the app be served as static output? Static rendering may fit when the deployment and application requirements do not call for server-side request handling at runtime.
- Does the product need SPA behavior? Choose that strategy when it matches the intended client-side application architecture.
- How much operational control is required? Runtime constraints, hosting setup, and the team’s willingness to manage infrastructure should inform the provider choice.
The official deployment guidance includes Node.js and Docker templates and links to provider-maintained guides for services such as Vercel, Cloudflare, and Netlify. Those options establish that multiple deployment routes are supported; they do not establish a universally best host. Confirm that the provider’s runtime and deployment instructions match the rendering approach you select.
