Verdict: The Insta360 Luna Pro is a compelling pocket gimbal camera if you want a relatively light, single-lens setup with a 1-inch sensor, 8K recording and a detachable monitor. Its main compromise is optical variety: unlike the dual-lens Luna Ultra, the Pro gives you one 20mm-equivalent view. The headline 240-minute battery figure is also a controlled laboratory result, not a promise of a typical shoot. At launch on September 10, 2026, the Pro made the most sense for vloggers and travelers who value portability, high-resolution reframing and simple composition more than multiple focal lengths. Check current regional pricing before buying because the launch-date gap to the Ultra was relatively small in the US and UK.
What is the Insta360 Luna Pro?
The Luna Pro is a compact, single-camera gimbal model that Insta360 launched on September 10, 2026. Its design combines a motorized stabilizer, a 1-inch image sensor, a fixed 20mm-equivalent lens and a detachable touchscreen that can also work as a remote, according to TechRadar’s September 10 review. Insta360 describes the lens as Leica co-engineered and lists a bright f/1.8 aperture on its official specification page.
That combination puts the Luna Pro between a conventional action camera and a larger interchangeable-lens camera. You get a stabilized, ready-to-record unit that can fit in a jacket pocket, but you do not get the framing flexibility of a dual-lens 360 camera or a zoom lens. The right question is therefore not simply whether its specifications look impressive; it is whether one 20mm view covers the way you shoot.

Those are capability claims from the specification sheet, not independent measurements of dynamic range, sharpness, noise or stabilization quality. TechRadar’s hands-on coverage is useful for the camera’s physical workflow, but its observations belong to that reviewer’s testing rather than to this article.

What are the Luna Pro’s key specifications?
The core hardware is straightforward: one large sensor, one wide-normal lens and a gimbal body with a removable display. The following figures come from Insta360’s current product specification page unless noted otherwise.
| Specification | Luna Pro detail |
|---|---|
| Sensor | 1-inch |
| Lens | 20mm-equivalent focal length, f/1.8 aperture |
| Maximum video resolution | 8K (16:9) at up to 30fps |
| High-frame-rate video | 4K at up to 120fps; 1080p at up to 240fps in specified modes |
| Color and HDR options | Dolby Vision and 10-bit I-Log options are listed by Insta360 |
| Still photos | UltraPhoto up to 37MP |
| Internal storage | 47GB |
| Removable storage | microSD cards up to 2TB |
| Weight | 215g in Cosmic Black; 218g in Stellar White |
| Dimensions | 52.8 × 155.7 × 38.5mm |
| Video container | MP4 |
| Release date | September 10, 2026, according to the online manual |
The dimensions include the elongated gimbal-camera body rather than describing a bare lens module. In practical terms, the Pro is light enough for handheld vlogging and travel carry, but the stated 215–218g weight does not include every possible accessory, a larger memory card or a protective case.
Does the 1-inch sensor and f/1.8 lens make the Luna Pro good in low light?
The 1-inch sensor and f/1.8 aperture give the Luna Pro a stronger starting point for dim scenes than a small-sensor action camera, but the specifications alone cannot establish final image quality. Low-light results still depend on shutter speed, ISO processing, stabilization movement, subject motion and the selected resolution or frame rate.
A 20mm-equivalent lens is wide enough for an arm’s-length presenter, a desk setup or a walking shot where you want some surroundings in frame. It is not an ultra-wide lens for dramatic near-field action, nor can it tighten the composition on a distant subject. If your regular shot list alternates between a talking head and far-away details, you will need to move the camera rather than change focal length.
The Leica co-engineering description is part of Insta360’s launch positioning. It should not be treated as an independent guarantee of color, edge sharpness or flare control. Look for footage from your own intended lighting conditions before committing to the camera, particularly if you shoot concerts, night streets or fast-moving subjects.
Which video modes does the Luna Pro support?
The Pro’s headline mode is 8K capture in a 16:9 frame at up to 30 frames per second. Insta360 also lists 4K recording at up to 120fps and 1080p at up to 240fps in specified modes. Those choices let you prioritize reframing detail, normal-speed 4K delivery or slow motion, but they are not interchangeable: higher frame rates and resolutions can change crop, stabilization behavior, heat and battery use.

8K at 30fps
Use 8K when you want to crop a 16:9 master for a secondary composition or retain extra detail for editing. The specification confirms the resolution and frame rate, but does not state a universal recording duration, thermal limit or bit rate. Treat 8K as a demanding mode and carry spare storage and power for a long day.
4K at 120fps
4K/120 is the more practical high-frame-rate option when you want slow motion while retaining a high-resolution source. Delivery frame rate determines the slowdown: for example, conforming 120fps footage to a 30fps timeline creates four-times slow motion. The camera’s supported mode list does not by itself confirm how every color profile, stabilization setting or aspect ratio combines with 4K/120.
1080p at 240fps
1080p/240 can provide much slower motion than 4K/120, but the lower output resolution is visible when you crop or display on a large screen. Insta360 specifies 240fps only for supported modes, so check the current on-camera menu and manual for exact combinations before planning a shot around it.
10-bit, Dolby Vision and I-Log
Insta360 lists 10-bit video, Dolby Vision and a 10-bit I-Log option. Ten-bit recording preserves more tonal steps for grading than 8-bit capture, while a log profile is intended for a color-managed workflow rather than immediate finished color. Dolby Vision delivery also requires compatible editing and playback choices. Confirm your editor’s support before selecting a profile for a paid project.
How does the Luna Pro’s detachable screen work for creators?
The detachable touchscreen is one of the Pro’s most distinctive workflow features. TechRadar reports that the screen can operate as a remote, allowing you to monitor and control the camera when the display is separated from the main body. That is useful for solo presenters, tripod shots and placements where the camera itself is out of reach.
A remote display does not eliminate framing checks. Reconnect or secure the screen before moving the rig, verify that the lens is not obstructed by a filter or mount, and check that your selected frame rate and color profile remain active after changing modes. The screen’s practical endurance will also affect a shoot differently from the manufacturer’s screen-off battery test.
How long does the Luna Pro battery last in real use?
Insta360 lists a maximum runtime of 240 minutes, but the stated test conditions are unusually specific: 1080p24 recording at 77°F (25°C) with both the screen and Wi-Fi turned off in a laboratory test. That figure should not be read as four hours of typical 8K, 4K/120 or remote-screen operation.

Insta360 says charging to 80% takes 23 minutes and to 100% takes 35 minutes in a powered-off test using a 45W USB-C PD3.0 PPS setup. Those are laboratory charge figures; cable, charger, temperature and battery condition can alter the result. The battery and charge conditions are documented on the official specification page.
How much storage do you need for the Luna Pro?
The camera includes 47GB of internal storage and accepts microSD cards up to 2TB. Internal space is convenient for a quick clip or an emergency backup, but high-resolution video can consume it quickly. A removable card is the sensible default for travel and multi-hour recording.
Insta360’s compatibility list names SanDisk Extreme microSDXC cards from 64GB through 2TB and Lexar BLUE microSDXC cards from 128GB through 2TB, with V30, U3 and A2 markings. The list identifies recommended families, not a guarantee that every capacity is currently in stock at every retailer. Confirm the current compatibility list and your preferred capacity before purchase.
- Choose 128GB or 256GB when you mainly shoot short 4K clips and offload daily.
- Choose 512GB or larger when 8K, travel days or limited laptop access make frequent offloads impractical.
- Format the card in the camera after copying your footage, and keep a second copy before deleting the original files.
- Carry the internal storage as a fallback rather than treating it as your only media plan.
Because Insta360 lists MP4 output, ordinary computer and mobile workflows are possible, but 8K files still demand fast storage and an editor that can decode them smoothly.
What accessories are available for the Luna Pro?
Insta360’s accessory guidance highlights an extendable stand and a mini fill light for different shooting styles. The stand is relevant to hands-free recording, tripod placement and the camera’s Mantis Mode use; the fill light can help in dim interiors where the f/1.8 lens and 1-inch sensor are not enough on their own.
Other listed or bundle-dependent items include filters, protective pieces and carry gear. The exact contents vary by package and region, so read the current store listing rather than assuming that a product photograph represents every box. The official accessory guide is at Insta360’s Luna Pro accessory article, while the regional bundle page is at the Insta360 Store Luna Series listing.

A Black Mist filter can be useful if you deliberately want softer highlights and a more diffused look, but it is a creative choice, not a universal image upgrade. Any filter also adds another surface that can collect fingerprints, flare or condensation. Use protective and carry accessories when they solve a specific handling problem rather than buying a bundle solely for completeness.
Should you choose the Luna Pro or the Luna Ultra?
The biggest difference is optical configuration: the Pro has one main camera, while the Luna Ultra is a dual-lens model. That gives the Ultra a fundamentally different framing proposition. The Pro is simpler and potentially quicker to operate; the Ultra is the option to investigate if changing lens coverage matters more than minimizing the camera system.

TechRadar’s September 10, 2026 review said the launch-price gap between the two was relatively narrow in the US and UK. Its cited review-date prices were not a live quote and must be rechecked for your country and purchase date.
| Model | Lens setup | Launch-date price cited by TechRadar | What the figure means |
|---|---|---|---|
| Luna Pro | Single main optical module | US $599.99; UK £599.99; Australia AU$859.99 | Prices reported in the September 10, 2026 review; not current regional pricing |
| Luna Ultra | Dual-lens design | US $769.99; UK £649; Australia AU$1,229.99 | Prices reported in the same review; not current regional pricing |
The available material does not establish a complete, current Ultra specification table, so do not infer that every video mode, weight, storage feature or battery result is identical. Compare the current official listings side by side for your market. If the live difference remains small, pay for the Ultra only when its second lens solves a real shot requirement; otherwise the Pro’s lower weight and single-camera workflow may be the better fit.
TechRadar’s comparison is available at its Luna Pro review. Its hands-on observations should be attributed to that reviewer, not presented as independent testing here.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Who is the Luna Pro best for?
The Pro’s feature mix suits a specific group of users:
- Solo vloggers: the detachable monitor/remote can make self-framing easier when the camera is on a stand.
- Travel creators: the 215–218g body and built-in storage reduce the size of a basic kit.
- Editors who reframe: 8K/30 provides extra pixels for cropping a 16:9 master, subject to your computer and storage capacity.
- Creators who grade footage: 10-bit I-Log offers a route to a more controlled color workflow when your software supports it.
- People moving up from an action camera: the 1-inch sensor and f/1.8 lens are meaningful hardware changes, even though final quality still depends on settings and processing.
It is less suitable when you need interchangeable focal lengths, a confirmed multi-hour 8K runtime, a full camera with optical zoom, or a production workflow that cannot accommodate large files and frequent media management.

How should you set up the Luna Pro for a first shoot?
Use this sequence before recording important footage. Menu names can change with firmware, so confirm the current manual if your screen differs.
- Install a compatible card. Use a V30 U3 A2 microSDXC model from the current compatibility list, or verify that the internal 47GB is enough for a short test.
- Charge with suitable power. For the manufacturer’s rapid-charge conditions, use a 45W USB-C PD3.0 PPS charger; allow for slower results with other chargers or while the camera is on.
- Update and inspect the setup. Check firmware, clean the lens, fit any filter carefully and make sure the gimbal can move freely.
- Select the delivery mode. Choose 8K/30 for reframing detail, 4K/120 for high-resolution slow motion, or a lower mode when runtime and file size matter more.
- Choose color deliberately. Use a standard profile for quick turnaround, Dolby Vision for a compatible HDR pipeline, or 10-bit I-Log only when you intend to grade.
- Pair and place the screen. Detach and position the touchscreen/remote where you can monitor framing, then lock the camera on the stand or hold it with the lens clear.
- Record a test clip. Check skin tone, motion, audio, stabilization, card write behavior and the actual file size before the main take.
- Back up immediately. Copy clips to a second location before formatting the card or relying on the internal storage for another shoot.
What are the Luna Pro’s main drawbacks?
- One focal length: the 20mm-equivalent view cannot replace a second lens or optical zoom.
- Conditional battery claim: 240 minutes applies only to 1080p24 with screen and Wi-Fi off at 77°F in the manufacturer’s lab test.
- Large-file workflow: 8K and high-frame-rate footage require fast cards, substantial storage and a capable editing device.
- Accessory uncertainty: filters, stands, lights and protective items may differ by bundle and region.
- Specification versus image quality: a 1-inch sensor, f/1.8 lens and 8K mode do not independently prove better dynamic range, detail or low-light rendering.
- Price sensitivity: the launch-date difference to the dual-lens Ultra was relatively narrow in some markets, making current local pricing an important part of the decision.
Is the Insta360 Luna Pro worth buying?
The Luna Pro is worth considering when your priority is a portable, stabilized camera with one predictable wide-normal view, a 1-inch sensor, high-resolution capture and a detachable monitor. Its weight, 47GB internal storage and support for up to 2TB microSD cards make a compact travel kit practical, while 4K/120, 10-bit options and 8K/30 cover a broad range of creator workflows.
Buy it with realistic expectations: the 240-minute figure is not a typical 8K runtime, the UltraPhoto 37MP and video numbers are manufacturer specifications rather than independent quality scores, and the single lens limits composition. Before ordering, compare the current price in your region with the Luna Ultra, confirm the exact bundle contents, budget for a compatible card and decide whether your editor and storage can handle the modes you intend to use.
Recommended Free Tools
For a solo vlogger or traveler who values a small stabilized camera more than multi-lens flexibility, that trade-off can be sensible. For anyone who regularly needs radically different perspectives, the Pro’s compactness may not compensate for its fixed optical coverage.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can the Insta360 Luna Pro record without a microSD card?
Yes. Insta360 lists 47GB of internal storage, so you can record short clips without inserting a card. High-resolution footage can fill that space quickly, so a compatible microSDXC card is the safer choice for extended recording.
Does the Luna Pro have a built-in light?
The camera system has an optional mini fill light in Insta360’s accessory ecosystem rather than a specification that establishes a permanently built-in lamp. Check the current regional bundle before assuming the light is included.
What charger should I carry for the Luna Pro?
Insta360’s 23-minute-to-80-percent and 35-minute-to-100-percent figures used a powered-off 45W USB-C PD3.0 PPS setup. A different USB-C charger can still work, but charge time may differ from those laboratory results.
Is the Luna Pro waterproof?
The supplied specifications and launch information do not establish a waterproof rating. Do not treat the gimbal body as waterproof; use only protection and operating conditions that the current manual explicitly supports.
