Neither host is a universal winner. InMotion Hosting is the better fit when you need more websites and storage on higher-tier shared plans, a longer stated refund window, or a self-managed VPS with root access. KnownHost is the stronger fit when LiteSpeed/LSCache, clearly described managed WordPress features, or hands-on managed VPS administration matter more than the lowest introductory price.
Make the decision by matching service to service—shared with shared, managed WordPress with managed WordPress, and managed VPS with managed VPS. Compare the commitment that unlocks each price, the renewal amount, included resources, management responsibilities, support scope, and refund terms. Published marketing claims do not establish which provider is faster or more reliable in independent testing.
What is the practical verdict in the InMotion Hosting vs KnownHost comparison?
Choose InMotion for a multi-site shared account, a plan with larger published storage allowances, or a VPS where you will administer the operating system and applications yourself. Choose KnownHost when its LiteSpeed stack, scheduled backups, staging and cloning, or defined managed-support coverage removes work from your team. If you are buying for a business, calculate the renewal bill and the labor you would otherwise spend on administration before deciding.

- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
How should you compare the two providers fairly?
Start by putting equivalent products in the same row. Then compare the resources and labor included in each row, rather than comparing a headline price from one product with a different class of service from the other.
| Need | InMotion option to examine | KnownHost option to examine | Important qualification |
|---|---|---|---|
| Several small websites | Shared Launch, Power or Pro | Shared Basic, Professional or Premium | Check site limits, storage, email, panel and backup policy. |
| WordPress with managed features | Managed WordPress plans | Managed WordPress Entry, Business or Corporate | Vendor feature descriptions are not independent speed tests. |
| Root access and your own stack | Self-managed VPS | Unmanaged VPS | You handle the operating system, updates, security and applications. |
| Host-administered server | A managed VPS offering, if the selected plan includes it | Managed VPS | Confirm exactly what administration and migrations are covered. |
This approach also exposes a common mistake: a plan can look cheaper because it omits control-panel licensing, backups, security administration or migration labor. Price the complete operating model, not just the server allocation.
What do InMotion and KnownHost shared plans include?
InMotion publishes larger website and NVMe-storage allowances on its listed shared tiers. KnownHost starts with a smaller Basic allocation but identifies CPU, memory, email, cPanel and LiteSpeed details, and its upper tiers advertise unlimited websites and storage. The offers use different billing commitments, so the figures below are not a like-for-like price ranking.

Which shared plan makes sense for a small site?
KnownHost Basic is sized for one website and lists concrete entry resources. InMotion Launch permits two websites and ten times the published NVMe capacity of KnownHost Basic, but its displayed introductory price renews at a substantially higher amount. A single brochure site may not need the extra capacity; a freelancer managing several client sites may value the additional site slots more than the lower renewal price.
What should you verify before buying shared hosting?
- Count every domain and subdomain you expect to host, including staging sites.
- Confirm whether “unlimited” is subject to CPU, inode, file-count or acceptable-use limits; unlimited storage does not mean unlimited server resources.
- Check whether email accounts, mailbox storage, backups and malware remediation are included or sold separately.
- Record the billing term that produced the promotional price and the renewal rate shown at checkout.
- Confirm the free-domain eligibility period and the extension price after the first term.
Which host is better for managed WordPress?
KnownHost presents a more explicit managed-WordPress feature set on the plans described: LiteSpeed with LSCache, scheduled backups, migration, JetBackup access, and staging or cloning. InMotion lists NVMe storage, caching, staging, migrations, backups, site counts and PHP-worker limits. Those descriptions help you compare included tools, but they do not prove that one provider delivers faster page loads for your particular theme, plugins, traffic or region.
| Plan | Introductory price and renewal | Sites | Memory and storage | Advertised capacity and tools |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| KnownHost Entry | $5.98/month; renews at $11.95/month | 1 WordPress site | 4 GB memory; 50 GB NVMe | Stated 100,000 monthly visits, LiteSpeed/LSCache, migration, scheduled backups, JetBackup access and staging/cloning. |
| KnownHost Business | $9.98/month; renews at $19.95/month | Not stated in the supplied plan details | 100 GB NVMe; memory not stated in the supplied plan details | Uses the managed-WordPress feature set; verify the visit allowance and site count on the current plan page. |
| KnownHost Corporate | Not stated in the supplied plan details | 5 WordPress sites | 6 GB memory; 150 GB NVMe | Stated 500,000 monthly visits; uses the managed-WordPress feature set. |
| InMotion managed WordPress | Promotional and renewal prices are shown on the product page; exact figures depend on the selected plan and term. | Plan-specific limits | NVMe; plan-specific limits | Caching, staging, backups, migration and PHP-worker limits are listed. The page claims “up to 40x faster page loads,” which is a vendor claim rather than a head-to-head measurement. |
InMotion’s managed WordPress product information is available at https://www.inmotionhosting.com/shared-hosting/wordpress. Read the worker, site and backup limits for the exact tier; a plan that permits more simultaneous PHP work can be a better fit for a busy dynamic store than one with more disk space but fewer workers.

How should you interpret LiteSpeed, LSCache and NVMe?
LiteSpeed and LSCache describe a web-server and caching stack; NVMe describes the storage technology. They can be useful components, but page speed also depends on caching configuration, image size, database queries, third-party scripts, geographic distance and traffic bursts. Treat “up to 40x” and stated monthly-visit figures as the provider’s plan claims, not guaranteed results for your installation.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteWhat should a WordPress buyer ask about backups?
Ask how often backups run, how long they are retained, where they are stored, and whether you can restore a single site without opening a ticket. KnownHost names scheduled backups and JetBackup access; the exact retention schedule and restore procedure still need confirmation for the selected tier. For either provider, keep an independent copy before a major plugin, theme or core update.
What is the difference between InMotion and KnownHost VPS options?
The central distinction is administration. InMotion’s described self-managed VPS gives you full root and SSH access, Linux choices, NVMe storage and optional control panels while you maintain the operating system and software. KnownHost separates managed VPS, where its technical team handles defined system tasks, from unmanaged VPS, where you retain root-level control and responsibility.
| VPS model | Access | Who handles system work? | Published support or feature details | Best fit |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| InMotion self-managed VPS | Full root and SSH access; Linux choices and optional panels | You manage the OS, updates, stack and security. InMotion handles hardware, network and uptime infrastructure. | 24/7 hardware and network support; a 99.99% uptime guarantee is advertised. Price varies by term and renews at a higher stated amount. | Developers or administrators who need control and can maintain the server. |
| KnownHost managed VPS | VPS access with technical-team management | KnownHost covers the managed scope, while application-specific work may be best effort. | 24/7/365 support, free migrations with supported control panels, and coverage for hardware, network, panel setup, OS troubleshooting, initial hardening and migration. | Businesses that want host assistance with system administration. |
| KnownHost unmanaged VPS | Root access and customer control | You administer the operating system, applications, updates and security. | Management services described for managed VPS do not automatically apply. | Experienced operators who prefer to configure everything themselves. |
Do not use an unmanaged entry price to claim that one provider is cheaper than a managed alternative. Estimate the value of patching, firewall configuration, monitoring, incident response and migration assistance you would otherwise perform yourself.
When is self-managed VPS a bad choice?
It is a poor fit when nobody on your team can respond to a failed update, exposed service, full disk or compromised account. Root access increases what you can customize and also increases the number of ways a configuration error can take a site offline. A managed plan is usually the safer operational choice when uptime and recovery matter more than custom software.

How do support and data-center choices affect the decision?
KnownHost describes 24/7/365 managed-VPS support and names Atlanta, Seattle and Amsterdam for shared hosting. InMotion describes 24/7 hardware and network support for its self-managed VPS. These statements describe availability and scope, not measured response times or historical uptime.
Choose a location that keeps most visitors and compliance-sensitive data in an appropriate region, then verify the available location for the exact product. A data-center list on a shared page does not guarantee that every WordPress or VPS tier is offered in every city.
Which provider offers the more useful refund window?
InMotion’s published guarantee can provide more time, but eligibility depends on the product and billing term. KnownHost’s overview generally states 30 days and excludes dedicated servers. Read the policy attached to the exact order before treating a guarantee as a risk-free trial.
| Product or term | InMotion stated period | KnownHost stated period | What to verify |
|---|---|---|---|
| Shared hosting | Full 90-day money-back guarantee | Most hosting services: 30 days | Eligible fees, exclusions and cancellation procedure. |
| Managed WordPress | Full 90 days; the stated guarantee also covers UltraStack One for WordPress | Most hosting services: 30 days | Whether add-ons, domains or paid migrations are refundable. |
| VPS on a term of six months or longer | 90 days | 30 days for most hosting services | Exact VPS product and policy exclusions. |
| Month-to-month VPS, reseller or dedicated service | 30 days for the listed month-to-month VPS, reseller and dedicated plans | Dedicated servers are excluded from the stated 30-day overview | Do not assume a dedicated-server refund from a shared-hosting policy. |
A money-back period is not evidence of superior uptime. Both companies publish reliability or uptime claims, but the available material does not provide comparable independent measurements or support-response tests.
Which host should different buyers choose?
Use the following decision branches instead of a single winner label:
- One personal or brochure site: Compare the smallest plan that supplies enough storage, email and backups. KnownHost Basic has a clearly stated one-site allocation; InMotion Launch allows two sites but carries a higher stated renewal.
- Freelancer or agency with multiple sites: InMotion’s Power and Pro listings provide 10 and 40 websites with 200 GB and 300 GB, respectively. Compare those allowances with the unlimited-site tiers from KnownHost and check resource limits behind the word “unlimited.”
- WordPress publisher: Compare PHP-worker limits, cache behavior, backup retention, staging, restore access and migration help—not only disk space or a visit estimate.
- Developer needing root access: Compare InMotion self-managed VPS with KnownHost unmanaged VPS. Budget for your own patching, monitoring, hardening and incident response.
- Business without a server administrator: Compare managed VPS coverage and escalation rules. KnownHost’s managed scope is explicitly described; confirm that your control panel and application are supported.
- Buyer worried about lock-in: Favor a plan with a documented migration process and a refund period that gives you time to test backups, DNS changes and application behavior.
How do you calculate the real first-year and renewal cost?
Promotional prices are only one line in the budget. Build a two-column calculation for the qualifying term and the next renewal term.

- Please Note: To reach 10Gbps speed, keep the cable under 3.3 ft. For USB A Male to USB C adapters, try flipping the USB C connector. USB C Male to USB A adapters support bidirectional 10Gbps transfer within 3.3 ft
- Record the exact billing period—monthly, annual, or multi-year—and multiply the displayed rate by the number of months in that period.
- Add the renewal rate shown for the same product; do not extend a promotional rate into future years.
- Include control-panel, backup, premium-support, security, email and extra-storage charges if they are not bundled.
- Price domain registration after any first-term concession, including privacy or transfer fees where applicable.
- For VPS, assign an internal labor cost to updates, monitoring, hardening, restores and migrations when comparing managed and unmanaged offers.
- Check taxes, currency and any one-time setup charge at checkout, because a plan-page price may not be the final invoice.
For example, the displayed KnownHost Basic figure is tied to a three-year commitment, while the displayed InMotion Launch figure is one promotional option with a $14.99 renewal. Those numbers cannot support a “cheapest host” conclusion without matching the commitment, features and renewal horizon.
How can you migrate a site with the least risk?
Both providers advertise migration assistance on relevant products, but you should still control the cutover plan and keep a rollback copy.
- Inventory domains, DNS records, mailboxes, cron jobs, SSL certificates, databases, scheduled tasks and external integrations.
- Confirm that the destination plan supports the software version, PHP workers, database engine, email volume and storage your site uses.
- Create a full file and database backup and test that it can be opened or restored before changing DNS.
- Request migration help with the correct control-panel credentials and specify which sites, mailboxes and databases must move.
- Use a temporary host name or hosts-file test to check login, checkout, forms, media, redirects, cron jobs and administrative access.
- Lower DNS TTL before the cutover when practical, then switch records after the destination passes the test.
- Keep the old service active while DNS propagates and monitor error logs, mail delivery and analytics.
- Cancel only after the refund policy, backup retention and propagation window have been satisfied.
What mistakes lead to a bad hosting purchase?
- Comparing unlike products: A managed WordPress plan includes a different labor model from shared hosting, and a managed VPS includes a different labor model from an unmanaged VPS.
- Ignoring renewal pricing: The first invoice may reflect a long commitment or promotion that does not recur.
- Treating marketing speed claims as tests: “Up to 40x faster” and visit allowances are vendor statements, not independent benchmarks.
- Assuming a guarantee equals historical reliability: A guarantee defines a policy remedy; it does not publish a measured uptime record.
- Buying disk space instead of capacity: PHP workers, CPU, memory, database performance and inode limits can constrain a dynamic site before storage fills.
- Overlooking support boundaries: Managed coverage may include the operating system and control panel while excluding third-party applications or custom configurations.
- Skipping a restore test: A backup that has never been restored is an assumption, not a recovery plan.
- Choosing a location by brand reputation: Verify that the needed product and region are actually available together.
What should you check on the order page?
- Product type: shared, managed WordPress, managed VPS or unmanaged VPS.
- Billing term that unlocks the displayed promotion.
- Renewal rate and whether it applies to all resources or only the base service.
- Website, storage, CPU, memory, PHP-worker, email and database limits.
- Backup schedule, retention, restore method and off-site-copy options.
- Control panel, root access and supported operating-system choices.
- Migration scope, supported panels and any paid migration conditions.
- Support hours, contact channels and the line between managed and best-effort assistance.
- Refund duration, eligible products, term requirements and exclusions.
- Data-center location, domain eligibility and post-promotion charges.
After these checks, the conditional choice is straightforward: InMotion favors capacity and flexibility on shared plans plus self-managed control; KnownHost favors a clearly specified LiteSpeed WordPress stack and managed administration. Select the plan whose recurring cost and responsibility boundary match your site, not the provider with the most appealing headline number.
Frequently asked questions
Does an “unlimited” shared plan remove all practical limits?
No. “Unlimited” usually describes a particular allowance such as websites or storage, while CPU time, memory, inodes, simultaneous processes, database load and acceptable-use rules can still constrain an account. Ask for the resource limits and suspension or upgrade triggers before moving a busy site.
Should I choose a data center closest to my visitors?
Geographic proximity generally reduces network distance, but your content-delivery layer, audience distribution and compliance requirements also matter. Confirm that the selected product—not just the company—offers the location you need, and check whether backups or support operations are located elsewhere.
Can I move from shared hosting to a VPS later?
Usually, a move is possible, but the operating model changes: a VPS may require server configuration, security hardening and monitoring that shared hosting handled for you. Plan the migration while the shared account is healthy, and confirm whether the destination is managed or self-managed before ordering.
