Infinicity is not released yet, so no honest guide can promise 1080p, 1440p, 4K, a graphics preset, or a fixed frame rate on Steam Machine. The currently published SteamOS/Linux listing information identifies OpenGL 3.3 for both minimum and recommended graphics entries, but it does not provide CPU, GPU, memory, storage, resolution, or frame-rate targets. Valve has announced Steam Machine hardware for 2026 and an expanded Steam Verified program, yet a Verified badge is a compatibility signal rather than a guarantee of 60 frames per second.
This guide separates the confirmed requirements from the decisions you can make after the final build ships, then gives a repeatable way to tune settings without mistaking an API requirement for a performance benchmark.
What are the Infinicity Steam Machine system requirements?
The only concrete graphics requirement currently surfaced for the SteamOS/Linux version of Infinicity is OpenGL 3.3. It appears in both the minimum and recommended graphics entries in the listing-derived information published by iTechGuides. That is a graphics-API compatibility baseline, not a statement that identical hardware is suitable for every quality level.

Confirmed and missing specifications
| Item | What is currently published | What it means for Steam Machine buyers |
|---|---|---|
| Operating-system context | SteamOS + Linux requirements are listed. | Linux-side compatibility is relevant, but the exact runtime, Proton use and final SteamOS support still need confirmation in the release build. |
| Graphics API | OpenGL 3.3 for minimum and recommended graphics entries. | The hardware and driver stack must expose OpenGL 3.3 or newer. This does not establish an FPS, resolution or preset. |
| CPU | Not stated. | Do not infer a processor tier from the game’s low-poly visual style. |
| GPU model or memory | Not stated. | Do not choose a Steam Machine configuration by assuming any particular GPU will deliver a target frame rate. |
| System RAM | Not stated. | No defensible memory minimum can be quoted yet. |
| Storage | Not stated. | The installation size and free-space requirement must come from the final store page or developer documentation. |
| Resolution and frame-rate target | Not stated. | Claims such as “4K/60,” “1440p/high” or “locked 30 FPS” would be speculation at this stage. |
OpenGL 3.3 should therefore be read as “the game expects at least this API level,” not as “any device with OpenGL 3.3 will run the game well.” Driver quality, shader compilation, CPU simulation, procedural-generation workload, memory bandwidth and the final renderer can all affect frame time.
Is Infinicity released, and can it be tested on Steam Machine?
No. The available listing-derived source says Infinicity is unreleased and has no announced release date. Without a final executable, there is no reproducible Steam Machine test for frame rate, frame-time consistency, graphics presets or resolution scaling.
That distinction matters because early store metadata can change. Developers may revise the renderer, add an upscaler, alter world-generation costs, change minimum hardware, or publish separate Windows and Linux requirements. Treat the current OpenGL 3.3 entry as provisional until the official game listing and developer documentation present the launch build’s complete table.

What Valve’s Steam Machine verification means
Valve announced that Steam Machine, Steam Controller and Steam Frame would join its Steam Hardware family in 2026. In the same Steamworks announcement, Valve said, “We’re expanding the Verified program to include Steam Machine and Steam Frame.” Valve also wrote, “In the meantime, if your games are already Steam Deck Verified, they’ll automatically be verified on Steam Machine.” Both statements appear in the official Steamworks announcement dated November 12, 2025.

A Verified result is useful evidence that Valve’s compatibility checks passed for the platform. It is not a promise of a particular output resolution, graphics preset, refresh rate or frame-time ceiling. For Infinicity, a future Steam Machine badge would answer “is the game broadly supported?” It would not answer “does this scene hold 60 FPS at 1440p?” You still need a test of the released build.
Deck verification and Steam Machine are related, not identical tests
Automatic transfer of an existing Steam Deck Verified status is a policy statement, not a benchmark result for every Steam Machine configuration. Steam Machine may use different display targets, power limits, drivers and system hardware. A title that is comfortable at a handheld’s native output can have a different workload when rendered at a living-room television’s higher resolution.
How to choose initial Infinicity settings after release
Use a controlled sequence instead of changing several options at once. The goal is to identify whether the limit is rendering, simulation, memory or an external software condition.
- Install the final build and confirm the requirements. Open the game’s current Steam store requirements and any developer notes. Record the game version, SteamOS version and graphics-driver version before testing.
- Start with the default preset. Select the game’s default graphics profile and the display’s native output resolution. Do not begin by forcing a high preset simply because the art style is low-poly.
- Use a repeatable scene. Test the same route, combat encounter or procedural area for several minutes. Record average frame rate and, more importantly, visible stutter or uneven frame pacing. A single peak FPS number can hide traversal or shader-compilation pauses.
- Check frame time while changing one variable. If the game exposes a frame-time graph, use it. Otherwise compare the same scene after each change. Keep a short log of resolution, preset, upscaling mode and observed behavior.
- Lower internal resolution or enable an available upscaler first. If the GPU is the limit, reducing the number of rendered pixels usually has a larger effect than turning every quality option to low. Keep the output resolution matched to the display while the internal render scale changes.
- Then adjust individual quality options. Reduce shadows, volumetric effects, reflections or view distance one at a time if those controls exist. Preserve texture quality when memory use is stable; lowering textures can make the image worse without fixing a GPU-bound frame rate.
- Retest after every update. Repeat the same scene after a game patch, SteamOS update or graphics-driver change. Shader caches, driver behavior and compositor paths can alter frame pacing without any change to your selected preset.
Can Infinicity run at 1080p or 1440p on SteamOS?
There is no evidence yet to answer either resolution question with a guaranteed frame rate. OpenGL 3.3 compatibility does not establish whether a final Steam Machine can render Infinicity at 1080p, 1440p or a higher output while meeting your preferred target.

When the game ships, test the display modes in this order:
- Native 1080p output: a sensible starting point for a 1080p television or monitor. Keep the default preset and establish a baseline before changing quality options.
- Native 1440p output: test only after the 1080p baseline is stable. The additional pixels can expose a GPU limit even when CPU-heavy procedural scenes were smooth at 1080p.
- Upscaled output: if the game provides a resolution scaler or upscaler, compare image quality and frame-time consistency with native rendering. Record the internal scale because “1440p output” can mean fewer internally rendered pixels.
Do not describe an upscaled result as native resolution. Report output resolution, internal render scale, preset and frame-rate behavior as separate facts.
Upscaling and the Steam compositor caveat
A Steam update feed has documented cases of degraded performance when composition is required, including situations in which FSR is enabled. The notice is a general Steam/firmware caveat, not an Infinicity benchmark; read the dated entry in the Steam Community Announcements feed before treating an upscaler result as representative.

- Test native rendering with the same output resolution and scene.
- Enable the upscaler without changing the frame-rate cap or other quality options.
- Check whether a compositor, borderless mode, HDR path or display scaling is now required.
- Compare frame-time consistency, not only the displayed FPS number.
- Keep the faster, steadier path and retest after SteamOS and game updates.
This procedure avoids blaming Infinicity for a platform-level composition issue and avoids assuming that every upscaler implementation has the same cost.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.SteamOS, Steam Machine hardware and Linux compatibility
“Steam Machine” should not be treated as one universal hardware specification until Valve publishes the final table for the model you intend to use. Valve’s separate Steam Hardware announcement says SteamOS 3.8 can run on users’ own living-room PCs and that AMD GPUs were supported in the passage available at Valve’s Steam Hardware announcement. That supports viewing SteamOS as an ecosystem rather than assuming every SteamOS living-room PC is identical to a Valve-built Steam Machine.
For Infinicity, verify all of the following on the specific hardware and software combination:
- The installed SteamOS release and graphics-driver version.
- Whether the game runs as a native Linux build or through Proton in the launch configuration.
- Controller detection, layout prompts and any launcher or mod dependencies.
- Display mode, refresh rate, HDR and compositor behavior.
- Thermal or firmware behavior after a sustained session, not just the first five minutes.
These checks matter especially for a procedural open-world shooter. A short menu test cannot reveal traversal stutter, shader compilation or a CPU-bound simulation spike that appears only after the world has generated more content.

What to do if performance is poor
Low FPS with a consistently high GPU load
Reduce internal resolution or enable the game’s supported upscaler, then lower expensive effects such as shadows or volumetrics if necessary. Keep one change per test so you know which option helped. If the image becomes soft or unstable, raise the internal scale before sacrificing every other quality setting.
Low FPS with low GPU load
A low GPU load can indicate a CPU, engine, driver or frame-cap limit. Test a less populated or less simulation-heavy scene, then compare frame-time behavior. Check for background downloads, shader processing and compositor requirements before lowering image quality; reducing resolution will not fix a CPU-bound section.
Stutter despite an acceptable average FPS
Use frame-time consistency as the diagnostic. Repeat the route, allow shader caches to settle, and compare fullscreen or borderless modes if the game offers both. Re-test after SteamOS, driver and game updates. Do not call a game “60 FPS” when frequent frame-time spikes make motion uneven.
Performance worsens after enabling FSR or another upscaler
Revert to native rendering, check whether composition is required, and consult the current Steam announcement feed for platform-level issues. An upscaler is an option, not a guaranteed performance improvement.
Controls or mods do not work as expected
Confirm the game’s controller profile, Proton or native-Linux status, and mod-loader requirements for the exact build. Valve identifies Steam Controller as companion Steam Hardware, but it is optional and does not increase FPS or substitute for a compatible game configuration.
What information should a trustworthy performance guide report?
Once Infinicity is released, a useful Steam Machine test should identify the exact hardware model, SteamOS version, driver, game build, display output, internal resolution, preset, upscaling mode, frame cap and test scene. It should report frame-time consistency and sustained behavior, not only a best-case FPS counter.
Until those details exist, the responsible conclusion is limited: OpenGL 3.3 is the currently published API baseline; the game is unreleased; and no authoritative Steam Machine benchmark supports a resolution or frame-rate promise. Check the final store page, Valve’s Steam Machine verification result and reproducible tests before selecting a preset.
