Short answer: IKEA article 404.935.09 is a white, single-zone portable induction hob listed in New Zealand. It provides one 175 mm cooking zone rated at 2000 W, measures 27 × 30.5 × 6.2 cm, weighs 2.40 kg and uses a 220–240 V, 10 A supply. It is best viewed as an extra burner for a small kitchen, temporary accommodation or limited counter space—not as a replacement for a full multi-zone cooktop. Your pan must have a magnetic base, and the appliance’s article number and electrical rating must match your country. IKEA’s specifications describe the product, but they do not establish independent boil times, temperature consistency or long-term durability.
What is the IKEA TILLREDA 404.935.09?
The TILLREDA 404.935.09 is a portable, white, one-zone induction hob. IKEA New Zealand lists it for small kitchens or as an additional cooking zone that can be moved and stored when it is not needed. The model’s article number matters: TILLREDA products sold in other markets can have different electrical specifications, colors and power ratings.
Unlike a conventional electric hotplate, an induction hob transfers energy directly into suitable magnetic cookware. The cooking vessel, rather than a visibly glowing heating element, is the part that receives the induced heat. That operating principle is why pan compatibility and the local mains supply are the two checks to make before purchase.

The 175 mm zone is the manufacturer’s stated cooking area, while the 27 × 30.5 cm figures describe the outside footprint. Allow room around the unit for the cord and for safe handling; do not treat the listed footprint as a recommendation to operate it tightly against walls or other appliances.
Will your pans work on the TILLREDA?
Only cookware with a magnetic base is suitable for induction. IKEA’s practical check is simple: hold a magnet against the underside of the pan. If the magnet does not attach, that vessel is not the right type for this hob.
Test every pan you expect to use rather than relying only on a label or a memory of where it was purchased. A magnetic base is a compatibility requirement, not an optional performance enhancement. If your current cookware fails the magnet check, budget for induction-compatible cookware before treating the hob as ready to use.
Use a pan that sits securely on the marked cooking area and keep the hob on a flat, stable surface. The listing explains the induction principle, but it does not publish a supported pan-size range beyond the 175 mm zone specification, so avoid presenting that diameter as a guarantee that every 175 mm pan will heat identically.
Is one cooking zone enough for a small kitchen?
One zone can add useful capacity when you have a single-ring limitation, a compact counter or a need for an occasional extra burner. It cannot cook two separate vessels at the same time, so it is a poor fit if your normal meals require simultaneous boiling and frying.
The portable format is the main advantage. At 2.40 kg, with a 27 × 30.5 cm footprint and 6.2 cm height, the unit is sized to move and store more easily than a built-in cooktop. The 140 cm cord gives some placement flexibility, but the available outlet position still determines where the hob can safely sit.
Think of it as a supplemental zone rather than a complete kitchen installation. That distinction is especially important in shared housing, studio apartments, offices or temporary accommodation where countertop space and electrical outlets may be limited.

How do the controls work?
IKEA describes touch/press controls marked with plus and minus symbols. Those controls are intended for adjusting the cooking setting, but the listing does not document a detailed control sequence, timer functions or temperature calibration. Use the symbols and instructions supplied with your individual unit rather than assuming features that are common on other induction cookers.
Because the control panel is touch-operated, keep it visible and accessible while cooking. Do not place utensils, cloths or containers over the controls. If a control does not respond, remove anything resting on the panel, wipe away moisture and consult the manual before continuing; do not improvise electrical repairs.
How should you set up the hob?
Follow this preparation sequence before the first use. It keeps the decisions that affect compatibility and safety in the right order.
- Verify the identity. Confirm that the package or product record says TILLREDA and article number 404.935.09 if you are buying the New Zealand-listed version.
- Check the supply. Compare the appliance’s 220–240 V, 10 A requirements with the outlet and household electrical installation. IKEA’s manual says the nominal voltage must match the available supply and that the installation must be suitably sized for the appliance’s power rating.
- Choose the surface. Put the hob on a flat, stable indoor household surface. Keep the cord routed so it cannot be pulled, pinched or exposed to a hot pan.
- Check the cookware. Use a magnet on each pan base. Set aside any vessel that does not attract the magnet.
- Position the pan. Place a stable, induction-compatible pan over the cooking area before operating the controls.
- Connect the plug. Use the included cord and plug with a suitable outlet. Do not proceed if the plug, cord or housing is damaged.
- Adjust the setting. Operate the touch/press controls and use the plus or minus symbols to select the required level, following the supplied instructions for starting and stopping the appliance.
- Stow it safely. After use, allow the unit and cookware to cool, clean spills and store the hob where its surface and cord will not be damaged.
Does the 2000 W rating tell you how fast it will cook?
No. The 2000 W figure is the listed zone and connection rating; it is not an independently measured boil time or a promise of temperature stability. Actual cooking results can vary with the pan’s magnetic base, pan size, food quantity, starting temperature and the electrical supply.
There is no verified performance test for this exact article that establishes how quickly it boils water, how evenly it heats a pan or how accurately it holds a selected temperature. Treat claims about speed or consistency as unverified unless they come from a clearly described test of article 404.935.09 under stated conditions.
The rating is still useful for planning your electrical setup. A 2000 W appliance on a 10 A, 220–240 V supply is a substantial single appliance load, so avoid assuming that any outlet, adapter or shared circuit is appropriate without checking the installation.
What electrical and medical safety points matter?
Use the hob indoors for normal household cooking and confirm that the nominal voltage matches the available supply. The official manual also directs users to ensure that the home electrical installation is sized for the appliance’s power rating. If you are uncertain about the outlet or circuit, ask a qualified electrician rather than using an improvised adapter or damaged extension arrangement.

IKEA’s manual includes this specific warning: “Users with implanted pacemakers should keep their upper body at least 30 cm from induction cooking zones that are switched on.” Follow that manufacturer instruction and seek personal medical guidance if it applies to you; do not reinterpret the statement as a general medical assessment.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsKeep the hob stable, keep the cord away from hot surfaces and do not use it if the housing, controls or cable show damage. The single-zone design does not remove ordinary burn, spill or electrical hazards.
How do you clean and store it?
Clean spills promptly and wipe the surface dry with a soft cloth. IKEA advises against scouring powder, steel wool and hard or sharp tools because they can scratch the cooking surface.
Wait until the appliance and cookware are safe to handle before cleaning. Do not pour liquid into the controls or immerse the hob. When storing it, protect the glass or ceramic surface from impact and avoid winding the cord so tightly that it is strained at the plug or appliance entry point.
Are humming, whistling or ticking noises normal?
IKEA says low humming, whistling or ticking sounds can occur as part of induction operation and are normal. The presence of one of these sounds alone is therefore not evidence of a fault.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Stop using the appliance and consult the manual if you notice damage, burning smells, smoke, repeated electrical trips or control behavior that does not match the instructions. A normal operating sound is different from a safety warning or visible failure.
Why does the regional version matter?
The TILLREDA family name is not enough to identify the electrical variant. IKEA’s United States listing describes a black, one-zone model with a 120 V supply and a 1.8 kW zone, while the New Zealand article 404.935.09 is white, rated at 220–240 V and 2000 W.

Recommended Free Tools
Look for a different setup if you routinely cook with two pans simultaneously, need several temperature zones, cannot confirm the local voltage or rely mainly on nonmagnetic cookware. A portable one-zone appliance cannot solve those capacity or compatibility constraints.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. How should you compare it with another portable hob?
Compare exact regional models rather than product-family names. The most useful checklist is:
- Article number, market and plug type.
- Voltage, current and connection rating.
- Number and diameter of cooking zones.
- Physical dimensions, weight and cord length.
- Cookware compatibility and the manufacturer’s operating instructions.
- Control layout and any functions explicitly documented for that model.
- Guarantee terms and local availability.
For a one-zone versus two-zone decision, start with cooking capacity and electrical requirements. A second zone may improve simultaneous cooking but can require a different total connection rating; use each model’s official regional specification instead of assuming that a larger unit shares the same circuit needs.
What does this review establish—and what does it not?
The verified facts are the New Zealand model identity, listed dimensions, weight, cord, zone size, electrical values, included plug and cord, touch/press control description, two-year guarantee and IKEA’s care and safety instructions. Those details are enough to judge physical fit, basic compatibility and whether the appliance belongs on your electrical circuit.
They are not a substitute for a hands-on performance test. No measured boil time, independent efficiency percentage, temperature-distribution result, noise measurement or long-term reliability record is established for article 404.935.09 here. Make a purchase decision on the documented specifications and your own needs, not on an assumed performance advantage.

How can you troubleshoot a basic setup problem?
The pan does not heat
Remove the pan and repeat the magnet test on its base. If the magnet does not attach, use induction-compatible cookware. Also check that the pan is positioned over the cooking area and that the outlet and appliance voltage match.
The controls do not respond
Remove objects or moisture from the control area, then follow the supplied instructions for starting the hob. If the panel remains unresponsive or the cord and housing appear damaged, disconnect the appliance and seek service guidance rather than opening it.
The appliance makes a soft hum or tick
IKEA identifies low humming, whistling and ticking as sounds that can occur during induction operation. Monitor for separate warning signs such as smoke, burning odor, visible damage or repeated circuit trips.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I use the TILLREDA with a pan that only partly attracts a magnet?
Use the magnet check on the actual cooking base, not just the sidewall or rim. If the base does not hold the magnet reliably, choose a pan identified for induction rather than assuming partial attraction will produce dependable heating.
Can I take the New Zealand 404.935.09 model to a 120 V country?
Do not assume it can be used safely on a different supply. The New Zealand listing specifies 220–240 V, while a United States TILLREDA listing uses 120 V; select a model designed for the voltage and plug system where it will operate.
Does the two-year guarantee cover every TILLREDA sold worldwide?
The two-year guarantee is stated on the IKEA New Zealand listing for this article. Guarantee terms are market-specific, so confirm the conditions with the retailer in the country of purchase.
