IFS Loops is an agentic execution platform for industrial operations. Its Digital Workers are software agents that watch operational data, apply approved business rules, make routine decisions, carry out actions in enterprise systems and send exceptions to people. The aim is to close the gap between an AI system identifying what should happen and the organization actually completing the work.

IFS positions Loops as an execution layer inside IFS Cloud that can also operate alongside legacy applications. It is aimed at manufacturing, energy, utilities, telecommunications, construction, aerospace and defense, and service organizations. The technology is promising, but published performance figures are vendor- or customer-story claims with specific adoption assumptions, not independent benchmarks.

What is IFS Loops?

IFS Loops is IFS’s platform for deploying and governing software agents called Digital Workers. A Digital Worker has a defined role, access to operational context, a set of processes and actions, business rules, permissions and escalation paths. It can monitor conditions continuously rather than waiting for a user to open a dashboard or ask a question.

For example, a worker assigned to material replenishment could recognize that a technician needs a part, check nearby inventory, determine whether the part may be issued, place an order when stock is unavailable and record the transaction. If a rule is ambiguous, the order exceeds a limit or a safety decision is involved, it escalates to a human instead of improvising.

  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.

This makes Loops different from an analytics product that reports a shortage or a chatbot that drafts an email. Its intended job is to complete the approved workflow across the systems where the work actually happens.

How does IFS Loops turn AI insight into action?

The platform follows a controlled sequence: connect data and systems, define the worker’s role and limits, monitor events, execute routine actions, escalate exceptions and improve the worker through testing and production monitoring.

  1. Connect operational context. The Digital Worker receives structured data from IFS Cloud and, where required, other enterprise applications. Context can include work orders, inventory, supplier records, customer commitments, technician skills, locations and service-level rules.
  2. Define the role and process. Administrators or functional experts specify what the worker is responsible for, which process it follows, which decisions it may make and which situations require approval.
  3. Grant narrowly scoped permissions. Access should be limited to the records, transactions and actions necessary for the role. A worker that can read inventory may not need authority to change financial terms or release a high-value purchase order.
  4. Monitor conditions. The worker watches for triggers such as a shortage, a delayed supplier confirmation, a change in a service appointment or an order exception.
  5. Apply rules and execute. It evaluates the condition against configured business and operational rules, then performs permitted actions in sequence. Those actions might include finding stock, issuing material, sending a supplier request, updating an order or proposing a dispatch decision.
  6. Escalate judgment calls. The worker routes exceptions to a named person or team with the relevant context and recommended next action. Human intervention is reserved for cases requiring policy interpretation, safety judgment, negotiation or approval.
  7. Test, measure and refine. Teams test changes safely, review outcomes and exceptions, adjust rules and guardrails, and then monitor the worker in production. This makes deployment an ongoing operating discipline rather than a one-time installation.

IFS described this pattern in February 2026 as continuous monitoring, rule application, routine decision management and end-to-end exception handling, with escalation to humans only when judgment or intervention is required.

What are IFS Loops Digital Workers?

Digital Workers are role-specific agents rather than a single general-purpose assistant. Each worker is designed around a business responsibility and the transactions needed to fulfill it.

Documented worker or workflow Typical work performed Human involvement
Material Replenisher Locates required parts, identifies nearby stock and handles issue or order actions through natural-language interaction. Approval or intervention when policy, availability or an unusual transaction requires judgment.
Supplier Order Manager Communicates with suppliers, validates purchase-order details and handles order confirmations and exceptions. Escalation for disputed quantities, prices, dates or terms.
Service Planning Assistant Supports planning of field-service work using job, resource and constraint information. Planner retains control of non-standard schedules and competing priorities.
Dispatcher Assistant Helps evaluate dispatch choices against skills, location, availability and service commitments. Dispatcher decides when constraints conflict or customer impact is material.
Knowledge Manager Retrieves relevant technician knowledge for a service task. Technician or supervisor validates advice where safety or specialized judgment is involved.
Customer order management Monitors order status and works through routine exceptions across the order process. Customer-service or operations staff handle commercial or relationship-sensitive cases.

IFS announced on October 14, 2025 that 10 Digital Workers covering 50 agentic skills were available and that it planned more than 100 skills by December 2025. The announcement is a dated product statement; current availability, packaging and names should be confirmed with IFS before a deployment decision.

Where can IFS Loops automate field service and supply-chain work?

Field service and supply-chain operations are the clearest fits because they contain frequent, repeatable decisions spread across multiple systems and locations.

Field service

A planning worker can help assemble a feasible schedule from work priority, technician skills, travel, parts and contractual response times. A dispatcher assistant can surface the best options when an appointment changes. A knowledge worker can retrieve procedures while a technician is at an asset. Material replenishment addresses the common failure in which a technician loses time searching for stock or waiting for a purchase action.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Procurement and supply chain

Supplier-facing work often involves checking whether confirmations match purchase orders, chasing missing responses, identifying shortages and deciding whether available stock can be transferred. A Digital Worker can perform those checks at machine speed, create the routine transaction and escalate discrepancies instead of leaving every follow-up in an inbox.

Customer and operational orders

Order-management workers can monitor status, detect exceptions and coordinate corrective actions. The value is not simply faster notification; it is the ability to update the relevant records, communicate with the right party and leave an auditable trail.

Industrial sectors

IFS targets manufacturing, energy, utilities, telecommunications, construction, aerospace and defense, and service organizations. These sectors share complex assets, constrained resources, regulatory requirements and processes that cross planning, execution, finance and customer-service systems.

How does IFS Loops compare with analytics, copilots, RPA and generic AI agents?

The practical distinction is whether the technology only explains a situation or is authorized to complete a governed process. The categories overlap, but this framework shows where Loops is intended to sit.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
Approach Primary output Operational context Cross-system action Exception handling Governance emphasis
Analytics Reports, forecasts and alerts. Depends on the data model and dashboards. Usually does not execute transactions. Alerts a person to investigate. Data access and reporting controls.
Copilot Answers, summaries or suggested responses. Often conversational and task-specific. May create a draft or invoke limited actions. User decides what to do next. Prompt, access and approval controls.
Fixed-rule RPA Repeats predefined clicks or data transfers. Strong for stable, explicit procedures; weak when conditions change. Can move data across applications but is brittle around exceptions. Stops or follows a scripted branch. Workflow permissions and bot logs.
Generic agent platform Plans and performs tasks using connected tools. Varies by configuration and domain data. Potentially broad, subject to integrations and permissions. Depends on the platform’s escalation design. Requires the customer to design domain guardrails.
IFS Loops Completion of approved industrial workflows. Built around IFS Cloud operational context and can work with legacy systems. Designed to perform actions across enterprise processes. Escalates exceptions and judgment calls to people. Role permissions, testing, monitoring, auditability and configurable guardrails.

Loops is therefore not a replacement for reporting or conversational assistance. It is an execution layer that can use those capabilities while carrying work through to a transaction or a managed human handoff. The claimed advantage is the combination of industrial context, cross-system action and explicit human oversight.

What is Agent Studio and who uses it?

IFS announced Agent Studio on April 23, 2026 for functional users who are not specialist developers. It is intended to let teams set context, define processes, design actions, test safely, monitor outcomes and exceptions, enforce governance guardrails, maintain auditability and expand a worker incrementally.

In practice, an operations or service leader can describe the desired process and policy, while IT and security teams validate integrations, identity, data access and controls. This division matters: functional experts know the real exceptions, but technical owners must ensure that a worker cannot exceed its authority or expose sensitive information.

Agent Studio does not eliminate design work. Someone still has to define unambiguous rules, identify authoritative data, decide when a person must approve an action and establish measures for success. Its purpose is to shorten the change cycle and make that work accessible to the people who own the process.

How should an enterprise govern a Digital Worker?

Governance should be treated as part of the worker’s operating model, not as paperwork completed after launch.

  • Identity and permissions: use named service identities, least-privilege access and separate permissions for reading, recommending, creating and approving transactions.
  • Decision boundaries: set thresholds for spend, customer impact, safety, regulatory exposure and data sensitivity. Actions outside those boundaries should pause for approval.
  • Escalation design: name an owner, define response times and include the evidence a person needs to decide quickly.
  • Auditability: retain the trigger, data used, rule applied, action taken, person who approved an exception and resulting system change.
  • Safe testing: test with representative historical and live-like cases before allowing production writes. Include malformed data, unavailable systems and contradictory instructions.
  • Monitoring: track completion rate, exception rate, false escalations, time to resolution, unauthorized-action attempts and user overrides.
  • Change control: version rules and prompts, review material changes and provide a rollback path when a new configuration performs poorly.
  • Human accountability: make clear which decisions remain the responsibility of planners, dispatchers, buyers, supervisors or other accountable roles.

IFS CEO of IFS Loops Somya Kapoor described Digital Workers as a workforce that must be built or modified, tested in real workflows, refined and monitored repeatedly. That continuous cycle is a useful standard for evaluating any agentic automation, regardless of vendor.

Kodiak Gas Services, 2026 customer story $3 million projected annual ROI. Projection assumes half of more than 800 field technicians use the Material Replenisher agent every day; it is not an independent audit.
Kodiak Gas Services, 2026 customer story More than 90,000 hours returned annually. Described as time returned to technicians for core asset maintenance under the same adoption assumption.
Kodiak Gas Services, 2026 customer story 25 or more AI use cases identified. The first production deployment was Material Replenisher, which locates parts and handles issue or order actions through natural language.
Ependion, April 2026 announcement 60% operational-efficiency gain and 20 hours recovered per week. IFS reports these as expected outcomes for the Supplier Order Manager Digital Worker; they are vendor-reported expectations, not an independently audited benchmark.

A buyer should convert these examples into a local model: number of eligible users, realistic daily adoption, minutes saved per completed case, labor cost, avoided delays, transaction costs and the cost of integration and governance. A projected benefit that depends on universal daily use should be stress-tested against partial adoption, seasonal demand and exception-heavy periods.

How can a company evaluate an IFS Loops project?

Start with one workflow where the current cost and handoffs can be measured. A disciplined evaluation can follow these steps:

  1. Map the process. Document triggers, systems, approvals, data owners, exception types and the person currently doing each step.
  2. Choose a measurable bottleneck. Good candidates have high volume, repeatable rules and visible delay, such as parts replenishment or supplier confirmation handling.
  3. Define the baseline. Measure cycle time, touches per case, rework, missed commitments, exception frequency and labor effort before automation.
  4. Specify the worker contract. Write what it may read, create, change, approve and never do. Define the exact handoff conditions.
  5. Validate integration and data quality. Confirm that records are current, identifiers match across systems and required APIs or connectors support the intended actions.
  6. Run a controlled pilot. Begin with recommendations or low-risk transactions, compare outcomes with the baseline and collect feedback from the people receiving escalations.
  7. Scale by evidence. Expand only when completion quality, exception handling, security logs and user adoption meet agreed thresholds.

Implementation support may include an IFS Loops implementation partner, an IFS Cloud integration consultant, an industrial AI workflow assessment or managed Digital Worker operations. The appropriate provider should be selected for documented integration, governance and change-management capability rather than for a generic promise of autonomous AI.

What are the main limitations and risks?

Agentic execution introduces risks that ordinary dashboards do not. A wrong report can be corrected before action; a wrongly authorized worker can create an incorrect order, schedule a technician badly or communicate an inaccurate commitment.

  • Data quality: stale inventory, duplicate suppliers or incomplete skills data can produce confident but wrong actions.
  • Integration fragility: legacy interfaces, rate limits and changed fields can interrupt a multi-system process.
  • Exception concentration: a process may look routine until unusual cases dominate during outages, shortages or peak demand.
  • Adoption dependency: financial projections require people to use the worker consistently and trust its escalations.
  • Control complexity: every new action expands the permission, audit and testing surface.
  • Product change: worker names, skills, packaging and partner arrangements can change as the platform evolves.

Mitigate these risks with least privilege, reversible actions, explicit approvals, realistic test cases, production monitoring and a documented fallback procedure that returns work to the existing manual process.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Is IFS Loops a good fit for your organization?

It is a plausible fit when work is repetitive but not purely mechanical, spans several enterprise systems, depends on current operational context and has clear escalation rules. Field-service replenishment, supplier coordination and order exceptions meet those conditions more readily than open-ended strategy or highly subjective decisions.

It is a weaker fit when data is unreliable, the process changes weekly, no owner can define approval boundaries or the organization cannot monitor actions after deployment. In those cases, improving master data and process discipline may deliver more value than adding an agent.

The central decision is not whether an AI model can produce a convincing answer. It is whether the organization can safely authorize a Digital Worker to take the next step, prove what it did and intervene when the situation falls outside the rules.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does IFS Loops replace an ERP or field-service management system?

No. It is described as an execution layer inside IFS Cloud that can also work alongside legacy applications. The underlying systems remain the records of transactions, while a Digital Worker coordinates approved actions across them.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Can a Digital Worker operate without a human review for every transaction?

Yes, for actions that fall within its configured rules and permissions. Review is reserved for defined thresholds, ambiguous data, policy exceptions or decisions that require accountable human judgment; those boundaries must be designed before production use.

How long does an IFS Loops deployment take?

IFS has not published a universal implementation timetable. Duration depends on the workflow’s complexity, integration readiness, data quality, permission design, testing scope and how many users and sites are included in the rollout.

What skills does an enterprise need to run IFS Loops?

A useful team combines process ownership, IFS Cloud or integration expertise, security and identity administration, data stewardship, testing and change management. Agent Studio is intended to let functional users configure process behavior, but technical owners still need to validate access and reliability.

Are the reported ROI figures guaranteed for other companies?

No. The Kodiak figures depend on daily use by half of more than 800 technicians, and the Ependion figures are expected outcomes reported by IFS. Other organizations should calculate benefits from their own volumes, adoption rates, labor costs and exception patterns.
