The current free Steam demo contains both chapters. Triomatica Games expanded the original Chapter 1 demo on October 19, 2026, adding Chapter 2 while keeping all 18 Chapter 1 challenges. The developer says the expanded version takes roughly twice as long as the earlier demo and introduces a cast that is harder to please. This is an expanded version of one PC demo, not evidence that you need two separate Steam downloads.

At a glance

Name Best for Key spec Free plan / price Platforms Checked
Original Chapter 1 demo Players who played before the October expansion Chapter 1; 18 challenges Free Steam demo (historical version) Steam on PC Oct 2026
Expanded Chapter 1 + Chapter 2 demo New players and returning players who want the larger preview All 18 Chapter 1 challenges plus Chapter 2; roughly twice the earlier runtime, according to Triomatica Games Free Steam demo Steam on PC Oct 2026

The important distinction is between an earlier version and the current version of the same Steam demo. The October update did not split the game into a “Chapter 1 demo” and a separate “Chapter 2 demo.” It expanded the existing preview. That matters for both download decisions and expectations: a returning player is getting additional content, while a new player gets the original introduction and the added chapter in one install.

Timeline: when did each version exist?

The Steam demo lists August 17, 2026 as its original release date. At that point, the free preview covered Chapter 1. On October 19, Triomatica Games announced the Chapter 2 expansion for Steam Next Fest. The event ran from October 19 through October 26, 2026. When the Steam listing was checked on October 30, it still offered the demo after the event had ended.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Those dates explain why players may see different descriptions in older videos, posts or screenshots. Material made before October 19 can accurately show a Chapter 1-only demo, while the current listing can describe the larger Chapter 1-plus-Chapter 2 version. Neither description requires two permanent PC products to exist.

What changed between the two demos?

The difference is content volume, not a replacement of Chapter 1. The first release covered Chapter 1 only. The October 19, 2026 update retained that chapter and added Chapter 2 to the same free Steam demo.

The original Chapter 1 demo

The earlier demo introduced the game’s central casting puzzle. You match actors to roles while considering each character’s ambitions, fears, preferred partners and other wishes. It contained 18 Chapter 1 challenges and served as the complete free preview before Steam Next Fest.

That version is now best understood as the baseline for the developer’s comparison. It is useful when reading “twice the runtime,” because the reference point is the old Chapter 1-only demo, not a standard two-hour target or a separately timed chapter.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The expanded Chapter 1 + Chapter 2 demo

The expanded demo starts with the same Chapter 1 material and adds a second chapter. Triomatica Games describes the result as roughly twice the previous demo’s runtime. That is the studio’s comparison, not a separately measured number of hours or minutes.

The developer also says Chapter 2 has a cast that is harder to satisfy. That signals more demanding casting decisions, but it does not establish a numerical difficulty rating or prove that every puzzle is harder than every Chapter 1 challenge.

Side-by-side comparison

Comparison point Chapter 1-only version Expanded Chapter 1 + Chapter 2 version
Included chapters Chapter 1 Chapter 1 and Chapter 2
Confirmed Chapter 1 content 18 challenges The same 18 challenges remain
Chapter 2 count Not applicable Not published officially
Runtime statement Baseline for comparison Approximately twice the earlier demo’s runtime, according to Triomatica Games
Difficulty statement Introduces the casting-logic premise Cast described by the developer as harder to please
Core systems Casting, wishes, costumes and modular story The same documented game-wide systems; no named Chapter 2-exclusive mechanic confirmed
Access Historical Steam PC demo Free Steam PC demo listing checked October 30, 2026

This table also shows what cannot be calculated. “18 plus Chapter 2” is a description of included content, not a total challenge count. Without an official Chapter 2 number, it is not possible to state that the expanded demo has 30, 36 or any other fixed number of challenges.

Is Chapter 1 still in the demo?

Yes. Triomatica Games says all 18 Chapter 1 challenges remain in the expanded Steam demo. Installing the current demo therefore gives you the original chapter as well as Chapter 2; there is no documented reason to hunt for an older Chapter 1-only installer.

The retained challenge count applies specifically to Chapter 1. The developer has not published a Chapter 2 challenge count, so it is not accurate to describe the demo as having 36 challenges or any other fixed total.

For players who completed the older version, “retained” is the key word. The update is additive in the information released by the developer: Chapter 1 was not removed to make room for Chapter 2. For new players, the 18-challenge figure tells you how much of the original material is definitely present, but it does not predict how many additional tasks the second chapter contains.

How much longer is the Chapter 1 + Chapter 2 demo?

According to Triomatica Games, the expanded demo has approximately twice the runtime of the earlier Chapter 1-only demo. No official minute count, average completion time or independently timed result is available, and the word “roughly” matters: actual play time will vary with how quickly you solve casting constraints and whether you revisit choices.

Use the comparison as a scope guide rather than a promise of a specific session length. It tells you that Chapter 2 is a substantial addition, not a short bonus scene, while leaving the exact duration open. A player who quickly recognizes compatible wishes may finish faster than someone who experiments with several casts, costumes and story arrangements. The statement also compares complete demo versions; it is not a claim that Chapter 2 alone takes as long as all of Chapter 1.

Is Chapter 2 harder than Chapter 1?

The available official description supports a qualitative answer: Triomatica Games says the Chapter 2 cast is harder to please. It does not provide a score, percentage increase or puzzle-by-puzzle ranking, so “harder” should be read as a design description rather than a measured difficulty statistic.

The game’s difficulty comes from balancing several wishes at once. A role that suits one actor may conflict with another actor’s preferred partner, ambition or fear. The expanded chapter can therefore feel more demanding because the cast’s requirements are less forgiving, even though the underlying loop remains familiar.

Do not interpret the wording as a guarantee that every Chapter 2 challenge is strictly harder than every Chapter 1 challenge. It describes the cast overall. Individual puzzles can still vary in how quickly a particular player sees a workable arrangement, and no official ranking places the challenges in a universal order.

What mechanics are shared across both chapters?

The documented core loop applies across the game rather than being a Chapter 2-exclusive feature.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  • Cast actors into roles: choose who performs each part of the production.
  • Account for personal wishes: ambitions, fears, preferred partners and other stated preferences affect whether a casting plan works.
  • Rearrange the cast: change assignments when a choice creates a conflict elsewhere.
  • Change costumes: adjust character presentation as part of making the performance fit.
  • Alter the modular story: shape the production so its pieces work together.

The official Steam description says chapters can differ in setting, characters, mechanics and story. That is a general explanation of the game’s chapter structure, not a disclosure of specific Chapter 2 features. The available descriptions do not name Chapter 2’s exact setting, cast list or new mechanics.

Consequently, it is safe to explain the shared logic but not to advertise an unconfirmed “new Chapter 2 system.” The expansion may feel different because of its cast and chapter content, yet the documented information does not identify a particular rule that appears only there.

What is not confirmed about Chapter 2?

Several details that readers may expect from a chapter comparison have not been published in the examined official material.

  • No specific Chapter 2 setting or complete cast list identified in the official descriptions.
  • No announced save-transfer or compatibility details between an earlier demo installation and the expanded version.
  • No promise that the demo will remain available forever after its post-festival listing.

These omissions do not mean the features are absent. They mean there is no reliable basis for assigning exact numbers or describing unrevealed content as fact. In particular, avoid converting the developer’s “roughly twice” wording into a fixed hour count or turning the known 18 Chapter 1 challenges into a combined total.

How much does the demo cost?

The Steam preview is listed as a free demo. There is no purchase price for accessing the demo itself in the documented listing. The full game is a separate product with a Steam wishlist option; Steam lists it for Q1 2027 and says it is not yet available. No full-game launch price is established by the information available here, so the demo’s free status should not be used to predict the eventual game’s price.

There is also no need to buy a controller, guide or other accessory to establish access. The documented requirement is the Steam PC listing and a PC capable of running the demo. Specific hardware specifications were not provided, so consult the store page for any system requirements shown there.

How do I install the expanded demo on PC?

You need a Steam account and a PC that can run the demo. The official Steam listing offered a free demo installation when checked on October 30, 2026.

  1. Open the Steam client or the Steam store in a browser and search for I Want to Play the Villain!.
  2. Open the game’s official store page and choose the option to install or play the free demo.
  3. Let Steam download the current demo. The listing represents the expanded Chapter 1 + Chapter 2 version, not a required pair of separate chapter downloads.
  4. Launch the demo from your Steam library. Begin with Chapter 1 if you have not played it, or select the added Chapter 2 content when the demo presents it.

Steam Next Fest ran from October 19 through October 26, 2026, but the demo listing still offered installation on October 30 after the event ended. Event availability is not a guarantee of permanent access, so check the official listing if the demo no longer appears in your library or search results.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

If an older installation remains on your PC, use Steam’s normal update process rather than downloading an unofficial archive. The public information describes an expanded listing, not a separate legacy installer or a special migration procedure.

Do I need two Steam demos?

No separate two-download setup has been demonstrated. The evidence describes the October release as an expansion of the existing demo, and the current official listing presents a free demo install. If Steam shows an older installation on your computer, allow the client to update it rather than searching for an unofficial Chapter 1 archive.

There is also no announced requirement to finish one installation before obtaining another. The practical choice is simply to use the official listing currently visible in Steam. Any save behavior between versions has not been announced, so do not assume that an old local save will transfer unless the game or developer explicitly confirms it.

Is Chapter 2 available in the mobile game?

Not according to the available official descriptions. The free mobile title Villain! on iOS and Android contains Chapter 1 with its 18 challenges. It should not be labeled as the two-chapter Steam demo or as a mobile Chapter 2 release.

Triomatica Games has announced plans for the eventual full game on PC, PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, iOS and Android. Those plans describe the full release, not a two-chapter demo on every platform. The currently documented two-chapter demo is the Steam PC offering.

This distinction prevents a common platform mix-up: seeing iOS and Android in the company’s full-game plans does not establish that the expanded preview has launched on phones. Likewise, the mobile Chapter 1 title is not evidence of a Chapter 2 mobile update.

How does the demo relate to the full game?

The full game is separately listed on Steam with a planned Q1 2027 release window and a wishlist option. Q1 2027 is a target window, not a confirmed launch day. Wishlisting the full game and installing the demo are separate actions: the former tracks the planned release, while the latter gives access to the currently available preview.

The announced console and mobile platforms belong to the eventual full game. They should not be treated as proof that the expanded demo has been released on those systems. The same caution applies to the release window: a quarter is not a day, and it can change before launch.

Which version should you play?

If you have never played the game

Install the current Steam demo. It includes the original 18 Chapter 1 challenges and the added Chapter 2 content, giving you the fullest officially documented preview without requiring an older download.

If you played the old Chapter 1 demo

Return to the current Steam installation to find the retained Chapter 1 content and the new chapter. The developer’s “roughly twice” runtime comparison is aimed at the difference between these two demo versions, so returning players can expect additional material rather than a reset to a completely different introduction.

If you only have a phone or tablet

The mobile Villain! release provides Chapter 1 and its 18 challenges. It is a separate offering from the Steam demo and does not establish access to Chapter 2 on iOS or Android.

If you are deciding whether to wishlist

Use the free demo to sample the casting loop, and use the official Steam wishlist for the planned full game. The wishlist is useful for tracking changes to the Q1 2027 window, but it is not a purchase or a guarantee of a launch date.

What should you expect while solving the chapters?

Approach each challenge as a constraint-matching problem rather than a simple “find the strongest actor” exercise. A casting choice can satisfy one wish and violate another, so inspect the relationships among roles and performers before locking in a solution.

  • Read every actor’s stated preference before assigning roles.
  • Separate positive requirements, such as ambitions or preferred partners, from conflicts caused by fears or incompatible pairings.
  • Check whether preferred partners or feared partners create conflicts across the cast.
  • Use rearrangement to test alternatives instead of treating the first workable lineup as final.
  • Change costumes when presentation is part of the current solution, rather than assuming costumes are only decorative.
  • Consider how a modular story arrangement interacts with the cast instead of solving assignments in isolation.
  • Expect Chapter 2 to demand more compromise because the developer describes its cast as harder to please.

These tactics are general guidance from the documented game loop. They do not imply that Chapter 2 introduces a particular unannounced system. If a solution fails, identify which wish was violated and adjust one relationship at a time; that keeps the puzzle legible without assuming a hidden rule.

Common comparison mistakes

  • Calling it two separate demos: the October release is described as an expansion of the existing Steam demo.
  • Deleting Chapter 1 from the count: all 18 Chapter 1 challenges remain.
  • Claiming 36 total challenges: Chapter 2’s official count has not been published.
  • Turning “roughly twice” into hours: no verified minute total or independent timing is available.
  • Promising a specific Chapter 2 setting or mechanic: the official description only gives a general statement that chapters can differ.
  • Confusing mobile and PC: the free mobile title documents Chapter 1, while the two-chapter demo is documented on Steam for PC.
  • Treating Q1 2027 as a launch day: it is a planned quarter, not a confirmed date.

How this comparison separates the two versions

The useful dividing lines are the included chapters, the retained Chapter 1 challenge count, the developer’s runtime comparison, the stated difference in how demanding the cast is, and where each version can be accessed. Exact Chapter 2 puzzle totals, timings and feature names were left out because they have not been established by the official descriptions.

How we picked the facts to compare

  • Included content and the 18 retained Chapter 1 challenges came from Triomatica Games’ October 2026 announcement.
  • The “roughly twice” runtime and harder-to-please cast are presented as the developer’s statements, not independent measurements.
  • General casting, costume and modular-story mechanics come from the official Steam demo description.
  • Steam, mobile, event dates and the planned Q1 2027 full-game window are kept separate so a platform or release-plan detail is not mistaken for demo availability.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will the Steam demo stay available after Steam Next Fest?

The listing still offered the demo on October 30, 2026, after the October 19–26 event ended. That post-event availability does not establish a permanent offer, so the store listing is the authority if access changes.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Can I call the mobile release the Chapter 2 demo?

No. The documented mobile title contains Chapter 1 and its 18 challenges. The two-chapter offering described here is the Steam PC demo.

When exactly will the full game launch?

Steam lists Q1 2027, but no confirmed day is given. Treat the quarter as a planned window and use the official wishlist listing for later date changes.

Is there an official total challenge count for both chapters?

Only Chapter 1’s 18 challenges are confirmed. No official Chapter 2 count is stated, so a combined total cannot be calculated reliably.

Is Chapter 1 removed when I install the expanded demo?

No. Triomatica Games says all 18 Chapter 1 challenges remain, with Chapter 2 added to the same Steam demo.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Is Chapter 2 exactly twice as long as Chapter 1?

No exact chapter-by-chapter timing is published. The developer says the expanded demo’s overall runtime is roughly twice that of the earlier Chapter 1-only demo.

Does Chapter 2 have a new gameplay mechanic?

No Chapter 2-exclusive mechanic has been named in the official descriptions. The Steam page generally says chapters can differ in setting, characters, mechanics and story.

Do I need a separate purchase for Chapter 2?

No separate purchase is documented. The current Steam listing presents a free demo containing Chapter 1 and Chapter 2.

Will an old demo save definitely transfer?

Save compatibility between the earlier installation and the expanded version has not been announced, so do not assume transfer without an explicit confirmation.

The Bottom Line

Bottom line: Install the current free Steam demo if you want both chapters. It keeps all 18 Chapter 1 challenges and adds Chapter 2, which Triomatica Games describes as roughly doubling the earlier demo’s runtime and featuring a harder-to-please cast. Chapter 2’s exact challenge count, timing, setting and exclusive mechanics remain unspecified, and the mobile Villain! title is still a separate Chapter 1 offering.
