HP Pavilion 14-ce3064st: At First Glance

HP is a well-known laptop manufacturing company with a vast range of amazing products. Besides, the brand is good at making well-priced products with lots of incredible features.

On this note, HP released the Pavilion 14-ce3064st in 2020. Starting at a price tag of $547.86 in March 2022 (when I wrote this review), this HP laptop offers numerous amazing features.

Some of these features include a powerful 10th-generation Intel Core i5 processor, long battery life, and a sleek design. However, as one would expect, this laptop comes with a few shortcomings.

Having mentioned a few things to expect from the HP Pavilion 14-ce3064st, why not read on to find out more about the laptop?

HP Pavilion 14-ce3064st: Design, Dimension, and Weight

The HP Pavilion 14-ce3064st features a slim, robust, stylish, and premium-looking design. To be descriptive, this laptop comes with a mineral-silver aluminum body with a matte sandblasted finish.

Due to the aluminum body of this laptop, it is very sturdy and should be able to handle rough handling. Moreover, the lid of the laptop is attached to the base by two sturdy aluminum hinges.

As a result of the sturdiness of these hinges, the lid doesn’t flex at all, even when nudged with force. Besides, there is a sleek “HP” logo with a reflective surface at the center of this lid.

When you finally open this lid, you will be greeted by the HP Pavilion 14-ce3064st’s 14-inch display. This display offers an HD (1366 x 786) resolution that allows it to deliver decent picture quality for casual video streaming and web browsing.

Asides from that, the display has a decent peak brightness of 220 nits. Although this peak brightness isn’t ideal for outdoor usage, it is adequate for you to enjoy using the laptop in moderately-lit rooms.

Moreover, the HP Pavilion 14-ce3064st’s 14-inch display is surrounded by super-slim bezels. However, the top and bottom bezels are slightly wider than the side bezels.

This is because the bottom bezel features an “HP” logo at the center. Meanwhile, the top bezel houses an HP Wide Vision HD camera also at the center.

Performance-wise, this HD camera might not be good for taking selfies, but it offers exceptional performance for video calls.

Moving on to the keyboard, the HP Pavilion 14-ce3064st features a full-size island-style keyboard. The keys on this keyboard are quite spacious and well-spaced.

Also, the keyboard should be very comfortable to type on due to its adequate key travel. Briefly; key travel is the distance between a key’s resting state to full depression.

Besides, this keyboard is backlit, meaning you will be able to type on the laptop comfortably in dark environments. Moreover, underneath the HP Pavilion 14-ce3064st’s keyboard, you’ll find a spacious touchpad with two integrated click buttons.

In terms of performance, this touchpad has a smooth surface and is very responsive, allowing for easy navigation. Additionally, the touchpad supports multi-touch gestures like pinch-to-zoom.

Port-wise, the HP Pavilion 14-ce3064st features quite a number of ports. To be more specific, on the left side of this laptop are two USB 3.1 Type-A ports.

Likewise, you will find a headphone/microphone combo port and an SD card reader on the left side of the laptop. However, the right side of the laptop houses another USB 3.1 Type-A port, an HDMI port, an Ethernet port, and a charging port.

In terms of dimension and weight, the HP Pavilion 14-ce3064st measures 326.8 x 225.5 x 17.9 mm (W x D x H) and weighs 1600 g. When compared to most of its competitors, this laptop is significantly slimmer and lighter.

For example, the Lenovo ThinkPad T420 measures 340.5 x 233 x 30.1 mm (W x D x H) and weighs 2240 g. Also, the ASUS X441BA-CBA6A measures 348 x 242.8 x 27.6 mm (W x D x H) and weighs 1750 g.

In conclusion, the HP Pavilion 14-ce3064st ticks all the right boxes when it comes to the design. Besides, the laptop is slimmer and lighter than most of its competitors.

Hence, the HP Pavilion 14-ce3064st deserves a nine out of ten rating in this design review section.

HP Pavilion 14-ce3064st: Processor (CPU) Performance

For the processor, the HP Pavilion 14-ce3064st makes use of the powerful 10th-generation Intel Core i5-1035G1 processor. This CPU is a quad-core processor that has a cache memory of 6 MB.

In addition to that, it comes with a base frequency of 1.10 GHz and a maximum frequency of 3.60 GHz. Performance-wise, the Intel Core i5-1035G1 CPU is very efficient in handling demanding applications like Photoshop, Adobe After Effects, etc.

That’s not all; this processor should also be able to carry out heavy multitasking with ease. To prove all these, I will be discussing the HP Pavilion 14-ce3064st’s performance on a Cinebench R20 test.

For clarity, the Cinebench R10 test is a cross-platform app-based benchmark test that evaluates a computer’s processor performance by utilizing its cores. Hence, this test involves two tests, namely: the multi-core test and the single-core test.

Briefly, the multi-core test evaluates the processor’s performance by utilizing all its available cores. Meanwhile, the single-core test evaluates the processor’s performance by utilizing just one of its cores.

Moreover, according to the setting of the Cinebench R10 test, a high score means better processor performance. So, based on the test results, the HP Pavilion 14-ce3064st delivered 419 points on the single-core test.

Whereas on the multi-core test, the laptop delivered 1409 points. These scores are very impressive and beat the category average of 300 points (single-core) and 1200 points (multi-core).

Moreover, compared to the Dell Inspiron 15 5593, which uses the same CPU, the Pavilion 14-ce3064st’s scores are almost identical. Specifically, on the Cinebench R10 test, the Dell Inspiron 15 scored 419 and 1408 points on the single-core and multi-core tests, respectively.

Based on the facts discussed above, I will rate the HP Pavilion 14-ce3064st a nine out of ten in this processor review section.

HP Pavilion 14-ce3064st: Memory (RAM) Performance

The HP Pavilion 14-ce3064st comes with a single RAM slot and a standard memory of 8 GB DDR4-2666 SDRAM. Unfortunately, 8 GB is also the maximum memory that this laptop supports.

Hence, you cannot upgrade the memory of the laptop higher than 8 GB. Notwithstanding, with 8 GB RAM and help from the processor; the HP Pavilion 14-ce3064st should be able to carry out most computing tasks.

In fact, 8 GB RAM should be enough for this laptop to perform heavy multitasking. Speaking of which, this laptop should be capable of running 25 Chrome tabs concurrently while streaming a YouTube video without lagging.

As a matter of fact, switching between the Chrome tabs should be seamless for the laptop.

To further verify the HP Pavilion 14-ce3064st’s performance, I will now be discussing its result on a PCMark 10 test. PCMark 10 is an app-based benchmark test that estimates a computer’s memory performance by simulating real-world office-related tasks.

Furthermore, the higher the score on this benchmark test, the better the performance of the computer. Hence, based on the test result, the HP Pavilion 14-ce3064st delivered a score of 5088 points.

Impressively, when compared with the Dell Inspiron 15 5593, this HP laptop performed better with over 1000 points. To be more specific, the Dell Inspiron 15 5593 delivered 4060 points on the PCMark 10 test.

For this reason, I will rate the HP Pavilion 14-ce3064st an eight out of ten in this memory review section.

HP Pavilion 14-ce3064st: Storage Options and Performance

For storage, the HP Pavilion 14-ce3064st is equipped with a 5400 RPM SATA HDD. This storage drive offers a max storage capacity of 1 TB, which I believe should be sufficient for most users.

As a matter of fact, in case you find this storage capacity insufficient, the laptop offers an SD media card slot. This SD media card slot allows for storage expansion.

Having said all that, we will now be discussing the HP Pavilion 14-ce3064st’s result on a CrystalDiskMark test. Briefly, the CrystalDiskMark test evaluates a computer’s storage drive by measuring its read and write speed.

For clarity, read speed is the time it takes a storage drive to open a file. Meanwhile, write speed is the time it takes the storage drive to save a file.

Moreover, the higher the “MBps” value on the CrystalDiskMark test, the faster the storage drive’s read and write speed. Thus, according to the test result, the HP Pavilion 14-ce3064st has a sequential read speed of 64.10 MBps.

Also, the laptop has a sequential write speed of 65.43 MBps. Compared to the Dell Inspiron 15R N5110, which also uses HDD, this HP Pavilion laptop has a slightly faster read and write speed.

Precisely, the Dell Inspiron 15R N5110 has a sequential read and write speed of 63.69 MBps and 57.51 MBps, respectively.

Hence, I will rate the HP Pavilion 14-ce3064st an eight out of ten in this storage review section.

HP Pavilion 14-ce3064st: Graphics Card Performance

For the graphics card, the HP Pavilion 14-ce3064st comes with Intel UHD Graphics. This GPU features a base frequency of 300 MHz and a boost frequency of 1050 MHz.

However, the Intel UHD Graphics is an integrated graphics card. Thus, it is embedded into the laptop’s processor and lacks dedicated VRAM.

As a result, to perform graphics-related tasks, this GPU has to share the system memory with the CPU. Due to this, the HP Pavilion 14-ce3064st might not be able to effectively run graphics-demanding tasks like video editing.

Also, the laptop will not be able to smoothly play title AAA games. Nevertheless, with the Intel UHD Graphics, the HP Pavilion 14-ce3064st should be able to play most low-end games.

For example, while playing StarCraft 2, the laptop delivered an outstanding frame rate of 206.1 fps (frame per second).

That said, I will now be talking about the Pavilion 14-ce3064st’s result on a 3DMark 11 test result to further verify its graphics performance. For clarity, the 3DMark 11 test is an app-based GPU test that measures the graphics rendering ability of a computer.

Furthermore, on this test, a high score means better performance. Thankfully, the HP Pavilion 14-ce3064st delivered a decent score of 2171 points on the test.

As a matter of fact, this laptop’s score significantly surpasses the ones gotten by its closest competitors. For example, the Dell Latitude 5590, which uses an Intel UHD Graphics 620 GPU, scored 1010 points on the 3DMark 11 test.

In conclusion, even though the HP Pavilion 14-ce3064st features an integrated GPU, it is capable of playing low-end games smoothly. Moreover, this laptop performed significantly better than most of its competitors on a GPU benchmark test.

Thus, I will rate the HP Pavilion 14-ce3064st an eight out of ten in this graphics review section.

HP Pavilion 14-ce3064st: Battery Life and Performance

For battery, the HP Pavilion 14-ce3064st is equipped with a 3-cell 41 Wh Li-ion battery. This battery was advertised by HP to last up to 10 hours and 15 minutes.

However, to verify HP’s claim, I will be discussing the laptop’s battery rundown test result. Essentially, this battery test involves continuous web surfing over a Wi-Fi connection while the laptop’s brightness is set to 50%.

Thus, at the end of the test, the HP Pavilion 14-ce3064st delivered a battery life of 8 hours and 43 minutes. Although not up to HP’s claim, this laptop’s battery life is quite impressive and should last a full working day.

Moreover, when compared with the Dell Latitude E5500, the HP Pavilion 14-ce3064st has longer battery life. Specifically, according to the battery rundown test, the Dell Latitude E5500 has a battery life of 7 hours and 20 minutes.

After thorough consideration, I will rate the HP Pavilion 14-ce3064st a nine out of ten in this battery review section.
