HP Dimension with Google Beam is a real enterprise video-conferencing system that makes a remote participant appear life-size and spatially present on a 3D display. It is not a phone or a free-floating hologram: six cameras and AI create a 3D view on a light-field screen, designed to work without special glasses or a headset.
What is HP Dimension with Google Beam?
HP Dimension is the commercial hardware for Google Beam, Google’s 3D video communication platform. Google announced Beam in 2025 as the evolution of Project Starline. The product is intended for businesses and shared meeting spaces, rather than for personal use at home.
Calling it a “hologram machine” captures the effect people may see, but not the display technology. Beam presents a remote person on a screen; it does not project a person as a free-floating image into the room.
How does Google Beam create a lifelike image?
Six cameras capture the participant
An array of six cameras records the person on the other end of the call. Google says its AI combines those camera streams and renders the result as a 3D image on the light-field display. The goal is to convey depth and make the person feel present at roughly life size.

The display responds to the viewer
Google describes near-millimeter head tracking at 60 frames per second in real time. That tracking supports changes in perspective as the viewer moves, helping preserve eye contact and depth cues. The intended result is a more natural view than a fixed, flat video image.
Is it a hologram, and do you need glasses?
Beam is hologram-like in the everyday sense that a remote person appears three-dimensional and spatially present. Technically, Google describes a 3D light-field display fed by AI-rendered video, not a projection floating in open air. Google says the approach is designed to work without specialized glasses or a headset.

Where is HP Dimension with Google Beam available?
In an update dated September 23, 2026, Google said HP Dimension units were shipping to customers in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, and Japan. Google also reported an ecosystem of 18 channel partners. The system integrates with Google Meet and Zoom.
For U.S. users who want to try the experience outside a company’s own meeting room, Google announced an expanded network with Industrious. Bookings at select Industrious locations were set to begin in October 2026; availability depends on the participating location.

How much does it cost, and can individuals buy one?
ExtremeTech, in a report republished by Yahoo Tech on June 12, 2025, reported a starting price of $24,999. Treat that as a reported starting figure from 2025, not a confirmed current universal price: Google’s September 2026 availability update did not give a replacement price. The documented positioning is enterprise use, with specialized hardware and deployment—not an ordinary consumer video-call device.
For procurement, ask HP or an authorized channel partner for a current quote that covers the specific configuration, installation, support, and any required room changes. The reported starting price alone does not establish the total cost of ownership.

What evidence is there that Beam improves meetings?
Google and HP have reported positive results, but the figures below are company-reported findings rather than independent validation. The measures come from different studies and should not be treated as directly comparable.
| Reported result | Study and attribution |
|---|---|
| 50% greater felt connection, 33% easier comprehension of feedback, and 21% fewer follow-up meetings | Google-reported internal study over eight weeks, reported in 2026. |
| 50% stronger sense of social connection and 21% higher reported ability to contribute | Google Research-reported group-meeting experiment, 2026. |
| 28% increase in memory recall, 29% more non-verbal behaviors, and at least 14% more focus on the meeting partner | HP internal-testing figures attributed to HP in an ExtremeTech/Yahoo Tech report from 2025. |
These results suggest what the companies say the system may improve, but they do not establish that every organization will see the same effects. The cited reporting does not establish independent peer-reviewed validation of these figures or an independently audited current price.

How does Beam compare with ordinary video calls?
The practical distinction is spatial presence versus simplicity. Beam is designed to make eye contact, depth, and perspective feel more natural, but it requires a dedicated camera-and-display system and an enterprise deployment. A standard video call is less immersive, but uses familiar meeting equipment and does not require this specialized setup.
Quick Recap
- Consider Beam for recurring meetings where in-room presence and non-verbal communication matter enough to justify dedicated equipment and deployment.
- Consider standard video calls when flexibility, low setup burden, and ordinary meeting-room or personal devices are the priority.
- Check the full deployment before deciding: compatibility with the organization’s meeting software, installation and support through an AV partner, and total cost matter alongside the display experience.
