Watch the Halo television series in release order: finish all nine episodes of Season 1, then watch all eight episodes of Season 2. Do not alternate the episodes with Halo games, novels or other screen projects. The live-action series follows its own continuity rather than the core game-and-lore timeline, so release order is the clearest way to follow the story.
Halo TV series watch order at a glance
| Order | Season | Episodes | Release year |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Season 1 | 9 | 2022 |
| 2 | Season 2 | 8 | 2024 |
Those are the two released seasons of Paramount’s live-action adaptation. The series is set in a 26th-century war between humanity and the Covenant. Amblin Television’s official synopsis describes it as “an epic 26th-century conflict between humanity and an alien threat known as the Covenant.”

Season 1 must come first because Season 2 continues the television series’ own character arcs, world-building and conflicts. The games and expanded-universe stories are separate viewing choices, not missing episodes that need to be inserted between the show’s chapters.
Season 1 episode order (2022)
Watch every Season 1 episode in the sequence below. The dates are the original U.S. air dates listed by Amblin Television.
#1 Best Overall
| Episode | Title | Original airdate |

How to use the Season 1 list
Start with Contact and continue numerically through Transcendence. The date spacing does not change the order: if your service displays a different regional date, use the episode numbering and the title sequence rather than trying to recreate the original broadcast calendar.
Season 2 episode order (2024)
After finishing Transcendence, move to Season 2 and follow its eight-episode catalog order.
| Episode | Title |
|---|---|
| 1 | Sanctuary |
| 2 | Sword |
| 3 | Visegrad |
| 4 | Reach |
| 5 | Aleria |
| 6 | Onyx |
| 7 | Thermopylae |
| 8 | Halo |
Halo is the Season 2 finale. Do not treat the matching franchise title as a separate movie or special; in this catalog it is the eighth and final episode of the season.
Why release order is better than franchise chronology
“Chronological order” can mean two different things for a franchise: the fictional timeline shared by the games and related lore, or the order in which a particular screen production was released. For this television series, those are not interchangeable. The show is an adaptation with a separate continuity, so a game-based chronology cannot be used to place its episodes accurately.

- Movie Title: Halo: Season One
The television continuity is self-contained
The show establishes its own version of the 26th-century human–Covenant conflict. Its internal references, reveals and character development are designed to unfold from Season 1 into Season 2. Watching the episodes in release order preserves that progression without requiring outside knowledge.
Games and other Halo projects are optional companions
You can play the games or read other Halo stories before or after the series, but they are not prerequisites for the episode order. Inserting a game campaign, a novel or another screen project between two television episodes will not make the show more chronological; it simply switches to a different continuity and can make names, events or assumptions harder to track.
What to do if you already know the games
Game familiarity can help you recognize broad concepts, but it should not be used as a scene-by-scene prediction guide. Approach the series as its own adaptation, begin with Contact, and let the television episodes establish their version of the setting and characters.
Where to stream every Halo episode
Availability depends on your country and on the date you check. Licensing catalogs can change, so confirm that both complete seasons appear in your local service before starting a subscription.

Netflix
Netflix’s official Tudum guide, published October 7, 2025, states: “Stream Seasons 1 and 2 now.” That makes Netflix an option for watching the released seasons where the title is included in your regional catalog. Search for the television series in the Netflix app or website and verify that both season tabs are present.
Paramount+
Paramount+ maintains the official episode pages and is the original streaming home presented by the production material. Open the service’s Halo series page, select Season 1, and check that all nine episodes are listed before you begin. Then switch to Season 2 and confirm its eight-episode list.
Check your territory before paying
- Open the streaming service available in your country without starting a subscription.
- Search for the exact title, Halo, and open the series listing rather than a trailer or a similarly named game.
- Check the season selector and count the listed episodes against the order above.
- Read the service’s current plan and cancellation terms for your region; prices, trial offers and availability are not universal.
- If a season is missing, check the other official service or consider physical media instead of assuming the episode has been removed everywhere.
A listing that appears in one country may be absent in another, and a catalog that is accurate today may change later. Treat the service’s current local listing as the final availability check.

Season 1 has a documented Blu-ray/DVD release. Physical copies are useful if you want offline playback, a permanent shelf copy or an option that is not affected by a streaming catalog rotation.

When physical media makes sense
- Offline viewing: discs work without an internet connection once you have a compatible player.
- Catalog stability: you are not dependent on a service retaining the show’s license.
- Travel or unreliable broadband: a disc avoids buffering and download limits.
- Collection: a boxed release keeps the season available independently of an account.
What to verify before buying
Check the edition’s region compatibility with your player, whether the package contains Blu-ray discs, DVDs or both, and whether it is specifically labeled Halo season 1 Blu-ray or Halo: The Television Series Season One. A physical release for Season 1 does not automatically mean that Season 2 is included, so read the contents carefully.
A practical first-time viewing plan
The simplest plan is one uninterrupted pass through the two seasons. If you prefer a paced schedule, keep the episode sequence intact and divide it between viewing sessions rather than rearranging titles.
One-weekend plan
Use the nine Season 1 titles as the first block and the eight Season 2 titles as the second block. The exact number of episodes per day is your choice; the important rule is to complete the first block before starting the second.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesMulti-week plan
Watch one or two episodes per session, record the last completed title, and resume with the next title in the table. Recording the title is safer than relying on a platform’s “continue watching” row, which can be affected by profiles, autoplay or an accidental selection.
Best Value
Group viewing
Agree in advance that discussion stops at the last episode everyone has seen. Because the series has a continuing television storyline, casual conversation after a later episode can reveal information to someone who is watching at a slower pace.

A service shows only one season
Confirm that you are viewing the television series page in the correct country and not a search result for a game, clip or trailer. Compare the season selector with the complete lists above. If the second season is not licensed in your territory, use the other official streaming option or a physical release where available.
The episode titles look different
Some interfaces display titles in a localized language or add episode numbers in front of the title. Match the recognizable title words and the season number; do not reorder episodes based solely on a translated display name.
The app resumes the wrong episode
Open the season’s full episode list and choose the next title manually. This avoids errors caused by a shared account, an interrupted playback session or an autoplay queue that has moved to another season.
You bought a disc but it will not play
Check the disc format and region against your player’s specifications. A Blu-ray player is required for Blu-ray discs, while a DVD-only player cannot read Blu-ray media. If a package contains both formats, select the format your hardware supports.
Questions to settle before you start
- Do I watch Season 1 before Season 2? Yes. Season 1 is the first released block and Season 2 follows it.
- Should I watch the games between episodes? No. The games belong to a different continuity and are not interstitial chapters of the television plot.
- Can I watch Season 2 by itself? You can technically select it, but doing so skips the television series’ nine-episode opening season and removes the intended setup for the continuing story.
- Is the show connected to the games? It is an adaptation of the Halo franchise, but the television narrative uses a separate continuity from the core game and lore timeline.
- Where can I watch Halo on Netflix? Netflix Tudum reported on October 7, 2025, that both released seasons were available to stream. Your local Netflix catalog may differ, so verify the listing in your country.
- Where can I watch Halo on Paramount+? Paramount+ maintains the official episode pages and presents the series as its original streaming home. Check the current local catalog before subscribing.
- Is Halo Season 1 available on Blu-ray? Yes. A documented Blu-ray/DVD release exists for Season 1; verify the format and region before purchasing.
The complete answer
Start with Season 1, episode 1, Contact, and watch through episode 9, Transcendence. Then watch Season 2 from Sanctuary through its finale, Halo. Use Netflix or Paramount+ if both seasons are currently licensed in your territory, or choose the documented Season 1 Blu-ray/DVD release when offline access and ownership matter more than streaming convenience.
