Downloads are stored on that device; an Apple TV box, smart TV, streaming device, or tv.apple.com cannot download shows through the Apple TV app.
Download a show before you go offline
You need an internet connection to download the episode or show first. Once it is on your device, you can play it from the Downloaded section without streaming.
On iPhone or iPad
- Open the Apple TV app and browse or search for the show.
- Choose a season, episode, or other item, then tap Download.
- When you want to watch offline, open Library > Downloaded and select the item.

On Mac or PC
- Open the Apple TV app and find the show or episode.
- Choose Download.
- Open Library > Downloaded to play it offline.
Apple also documents downloads on Apple Vision Pro in its download and streaming guidance.

Find an existing download and manage storage
Downloaded items are stored on the device where you downloaded them. To play one, use Library > Downloaded in the Apple TV app rather than selecting the show from a streaming catalog. If you need device space, remove downloads in the app; Apple’s Apple TV app library guide explains library management.
Why you may not see a Download option
The Apple TV app does not download content on Apple TV 4K, Apple TV HD, smart TVs, streaming devices, or tv.apple.com. Those are streaming destinations. Download the title beforehand on a supported phone, tablet, computer, or Apple Vision Pro if you need offline playback.

- The channel or title may not permit downloads.
- You may have reached a download limit.
- Eligibility can vary by title, channel, country, or region.
These are possible explanations, not a single diagnosis: download availability depends on the particular title, channel, account, and device.
How long downloads stay available
Offline availability differs depending on whether you are watching a subscription or channel title, or media you purchased. Apple’s limits are general and may vary by channel, title, country, or region.

Choose the right device for offline viewing
If you already have access to the show, you do not need a new subscription simply to watch an eligible download offline. You do need a supported device on which the Apple TV app offers downloads. A TV or streaming box can play Apple TV content by streaming, but it is not the place to store an Apple TV app download.
