To verify the right URL, copy it from the stream’s current settings in YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room, use the matching protocol in your encoder, then test a connection from the Indian data center and confirm that Live Control Room receives the preview and reports stream health.
Get the current URL for your stream
- In YouTube Studio, select Create → Go live, then open the stream’s Stream settings in Live Control Room.
- Copy the URL and stream key shown for that stream, and enter them in the encoder running in your data center. In the ordinary RTMP or RTMPS workflow, the URL and key are separate inputs. Treat the key as a credential: do not expose it in public logs, screenshots, or examples.
YouTube’s instructions direct encoder users to the current stream settings rather than to a fixed regional hostname. Do not hard-code or guess an India-specific ingest host. See Manage live stream settings and Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder.
Choose the URL that matches your ingest protocol
RTMPS: encrypted RTMP
- In Live Control Room, find the stream URL. If it displays ordinary RTMP, select the lock icon to reveal the RTMPS URL, then copy it.
- Configure the encoder for RTMPS and use that copied secure URL. Confirm the encoder supports RTMPS; YouTube describes it as RTMP over TLS/SSL.
If a connection fails with an SSL or timeout error despite an apparently correct URL, YouTube suggests trying port 443 in the documented troubleshooting case. Do not substitute a guessed regional host. Details: Encrypt your stream using RTMPS.
HLS: HTTPS URL generated for an HLS key
- Create or select a stream key configured for HLS. The Live Control Room URL changes to an HTTPS URL; copy the generated URL.
- Configure the encoder for HLS and use the generated HTTPS URL. YouTube’s HLS instructions specify HTTPS POST/PUT and TS segments from 1 to 4 seconds, with a rolling playlist of no more than five outstanding segments.
HLS has higher latency than RTMP because it sends segments rather than a continuous stream. Shorter segment duration within YouTube’s supported 1–4 second range lowers latency. For protocol setup and requirements, see Set up an HLS stream.

Verify the connection from the Indian data center
- Start the encoder on the actual server and network path that will carry the stream. A URL that looks correct does not establish that the server can reach YouTube’s ingest endpoint.
- Open the stream in Live Control Room and check for an incoming preview. Confirm that both video and audio arrive and review the stream-health indicator and any error messages.
- Test before the event and monitor stream health during operation. For guidance, see Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder and Live streaming error messages.
This verifies reachability and ingest behavior from your deployed environment. The official YouTube material cited here does not compare Indian data-center routes or establish that one provider or location is faster or more reliable; that requires measurements from the network you will actually use.
Troubleshoot common ingest problems
| Symptom | Checks and fix |
|---|---|
| SSL error or connection timeout | Confirm that the copied URL is the RTMPS URL, the encoder is set to RTMPS, and the encoder supports it. In the documented SSL troubleshooting case, try port 443. Do not replace the host with a guessed regional hostname. See YouTube’s RTMPS guidance. |
| Encoder cannot start or authenticate | Copy the current stream key again from Live Control Room and update the encoder. Keep the key private. See Troubleshoot your YouTube live stream. |
| Connected, but stream health is poor or an error appears | Read the Live Control Room health indicator and exact error text. Check that the selected protocol, URL, and encoder settings match the ingestion method. YouTube’s live streaming error guide covers format and configuration errors. |
| HLS delay is higher than expected | That is consistent with HLS’s segment-based delivery. If lower latency is needed, use a shorter supported segment duration, from 1 to 4 seconds, and account for the trade-off when selecting the ingest method. See Set up an HLS stream. |
