Is Vibe really offline?
Vibe supports offline transcription of local files after the application and model files have been downloaded, but Vibe is not an application in which every feature is permanently disconnected from the internet.

Some third-party pages claim macOS 11 or newer and Windows 10/11 compatibility, but those claims do not match the official installation notes reviewed for this guide. A dedicated GPU is optional. CPU processing can be useful for compatibility and troubleshooting, while a supported GPU may reduce processing time. The exact asset names may change in later releases. Match both the operating system and CPU architecture, and do not run an installer merely because its filename resembles an official package.
How do you install Vibe on macOS?
Install the Apple-silicon build on an M-series Mac and the Intel build on an Intel Mac.
- Download the matching
.dmgfile from the official release. - Open the downloaded disk image.
- Drag Vibe into the Applications folder.
- Open Vibe from Applications.
- If macOS blocks the first launch, Control-click or right-click Vibe and choose Open.
- If macOS still blocks the application, open System Settings → Privacy & Security and review the blocked-app approval option.
Use the correct architecture whenever possible. Running the wrong build can create avoidable compatibility or performance problems. How do you install Vibe on Windows?
- Download the Windows installer from the official GitHub release.
- Run the installer and complete the setup.
- Launch Vibe from the Start menu or its installed application location.
Windows SmartScreen or Microsoft Defender may display a warning. Verify that the installer came from the official Vibe GitHub release, and verify the filename before choosing to continue. Do not bypass security warnings indiscriminately.
If Vibe reports that msvc140.dll is missing, install the appropriate official Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable, including the vc_redist.x64.exe package recommended in the project’s installation notes. Do not download an isolated DLL from a random website. Restart Vibe after installing the redistributable.
How do you install Vibe on Linux?
Use a Debian package for Debian, Ubuntu, and compatible distributions, or an RPM package for Fedora, openSUSE, and other RPM-based distributions. Ubuntu 22.04 or newer is the Linux baseline the project says it has tested; other distributions may work but do not have the same level of verification.
For a downloaded Debian/Ubuntu package, run a command like this from the directory containing the file:

How do you download and choose a transcription model?
Install at least one speech-recognition model after installing Vibe. The application alone is not enough to transcribe a recording.
Open Vibe’s model or settings interface, choose a Whisper-compatible model, and wait for the download to finish before importing a file. The exact control labels can change, but the important sequence is model selection, complete download, model activation, and then transcription.

Start with Small for a fast test. Move to Medium or Large when the transcript has too many errors and your computer has sufficient memory. Download additional models only after the basic workflow works.
For an offline or manually managed setup, the official installation notes describe cancelling the in-app download and using the Customize section in Settings to install models manually. This is useful when the normal download is interrupted or when a machine must be prepared without a continuous internet connection.

How do you transcribe an audio or video file?
To transcribe a local file, select a downloaded model, import the file, configure the language and optional processing settings, and start the job.
- Open Vibe and confirm that a speech model is selected and fully downloaded.
- Drag an audio or video file into Vibe, or use the file-picker control.
- Choose the spoken language when the interface provides that option. Correct language selection can improve recognition.
- Review optional settings such as GPU acceleration, translation to English, speaker diarization, stable timestamps, and caption-length controls.
- Start transcription.
- Wait for the transcript to appear, then review it before relying on the text.
- Export the result in the format required for editing, captions, archiving, or further processing.
Speech recognition is not proofreading. Manually check names, numbers, acronyms, technical terms, punctuation, overlapping speech, and places where speakers talk over one another. Background noise, poor microphone placement, accents, crosstalk, and domain-specific vocabulary can reduce accuracy even with a larger model.
How do you transcribe several files in batch?
Vibe supports batch transcription, so you can submit multiple recordings and process them with the selected model and language settings.
- Select or drag multiple files, or use the batch or folder option if that control is available in your installed version.
- Confirm the model, language, and shared processing settings.
- Start the batch job.
- Monitor progress and check the resulting output for each file.
- Export or locate each transcript and preserve a clear relationship between source filenames and output filenames.
Batch controls and folder behavior can change between releases. If your version does not expose the same labels, use the file picker or consult the current project documentation rather than assuming that a menu path from an older guide still applies.

URL transcription requires internet access because Vibe must retrieve the source media before processing it.
- Copy the URL of the supported online media.
- Open Vibe’s URL or link input.
- Paste the URL.
- Start retrieval and transcription.
- Wait for the media download and transcription to complete, then review and export the result.
URL support depends on the source website, delivery format, access restrictions, and the current Vibe release. Private, age-restricted, region-restricted, authenticated, or unavailable media may fail. Respect the website’s terms, copyright rules, and restrictions on downloading content. If permitted, obtain the media through a lawful method and import the local file instead.
How do you transcribe microphone or system audio?
Vibe lists microphone and system-audio transcription, but recording permissions and audio routing differ substantially by operating system.
- macOS: Vibe may require Microphone and Screen Recording or system-audio permissions. macOS system-audio behavior has also received platform-specific fixes in the project’s release history.
- Windows: Check Windows microphone privacy settings and confirm that Vibe can access the intended input device.
- Linux: Microphone and system-audio capture depends on the desktop environment and audio stack, so behavior is less uniform across distributions.
Test a short recording before starting an important interview, lecture, or meeting. File import is usually a simpler troubleshooting path than live system-audio capture because live capture depends on permissions, device selection, routing, and OS integration.

What formats can Vibe export?
Vibe documents export support for SRT, VTT, TXT, HTML, PDF, JSON, and DOCX. Choose the format according to how the transcript will be used.

Subtitle usefulness depends on timestamp segmentation as well as word accuracy. A reported Windows issue also describes silent failure when Stable Timestamps is enabled; that report is a specific bug report, not evidence that the feature always fails.
How do translation, diarization, and stable timestamps differ?
Transcription, translation, speaker diarization, and timestamp refinement are separate operations with different model and reliability considerations.

How do you summarize a Vibe transcript privately?
Vibe lists Claude API summaries and Ollama-based local analysis, but the two options have different privacy and setup consequences.
- Claude: Convenient cloud-based analysis that requires the applicable API connection. A transcript that was created locally can still leave the computer when sent to a cloud service. API pricing was not verified in the supplied research, so check Anthropic’s current terms and pricing before use.
- Ollama: Local transcript analysis and batch summaries when Ollama and a local model are installed. Local processing can better preserve privacy, but it requires additional software, storage, memory, and configuration.
Use the official Anthropic API information for current Claude details and Ollama’s official site for its current installation information. Do not assume that local transcription automatically makes cloud summarization private.
How can you make Vibe faster and more accurate?
The most dependable improvements are choosing an appropriate model, enabling supported acceleration when stable, and improving the source audio; no single speed setting works best on every computer.
- Start with a smaller model: Use Small for quick drafts and move upward when accuracy is insufficient.
- Use GPU acceleration when supported: Keep graphics drivers current, but switch back to CPU if GPU initialization fails.
- Use the correct Mac build: Apple-silicon Macs should use the Apple-silicon package rather than the Intel package.
- Reduce competing workload: Close memory-intensive applications and keep adequate free storage for models and temporary data.
- Improve the audio: Reduce background noise, avoid clipping, and separate speakers where possible.
- Set the language explicitly: The correct spoken-language setting can reduce recognition errors.
- Use shorter test files: A short sample makes model and configuration problems easier to isolate.
- Use the macOS advanced optimization only later: The project notes describe placing a matching
.mlcmodelcfile alongside the corresponding model file. The first run compiles the model and later runs may become faster, but this is an advanced path rather than a beginner requirement.
For caption work, test ordinary timestamps first. Enable Stable Timestamps only when the timing benefit justifies slower processing and you have confirmed that the option works correctly with your Vibe version and operating system.

Use the symptom-specific recovery steps below, beginning with the simplest known-good configuration: a local file, a standard Whisper model, CPU mode, and ordinary timestamps.
Vibe will not launch on macOS
Confirm that the app came from the official release, move it to Applications, then Control-click or right-click the app and choose Open. If Gatekeeper continues to block it, check System Settings → Privacy & Security for the blocked-app approval option.
The model will not download or load
- Check the model location in Settings.
- Confirm that the download completed and that free disk space is available.
- Remove and redownload the model if the file may be incomplete or corrupt.
- Try a smaller standard Whisper model.
- Disable custom model paths until the standard workflow succeeds.
If a VAD model error mentions ggml-silero-v6.2.0.bin, the project issue describes a failure on an Apple M1 Pro system. Check the model directory, redownload the VAD and model files, restart Vibe, and retry without advanced timestamp or VAD-dependent options. Include the Vibe version and operating system if you report the problem through the project.
Windows reports a missing DLL
For an msvc140.dll error, install the appropriate official Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable, then restart Vibe. Never obtain the DLL from an untrusted download site.

Update the graphics driver, disable GPU acceleration temporarily, and retry in CPU mode. The release history indicates that Vibe can fall back to CPU when Vulkan GPU drivers are missing. A smaller model can also reduce memory and backend pressure.
The Linux window does not render correctly
Launch Vibe from a terminal after running:
export WEBKIT_DISABLE_COMPOSITING_MODE=1If the problem remains, check WebKit/GTK and other desktop-library dependencies for your distribution. The project specifically documents Ubuntu 22.04 or newer as tested rather than guaranteeing identical behavior on every Linux distribution.
The transcript is empty or inaccurate
Verify that the file is decoded correctly, select the spoken language, try a smaller standard model to test compatibility, then try a larger model if memory permits. Improve the source audio and manually verify names, numbers, jargon, punctuation, and speaker overlaps. Diarization should be treated as an aid rather than authoritative identification.
Stable Timestamps causes a failure
Disable Stable Timestamps and retry with ordinary timestamps. A GitHub issue opened in August 2026 reports silent failure on Windows when Stable Timestamps is enabled. The report concerns a particular environment and should not be read as a universal limitation.
