To make dialogue easier to follow in Control Resonant, turn on subtitles in Options → Interface, then raise Speech Volume in Options → Audio. If music or effects still cover voices, lower those channels rather than turning up every sound. Use large subtitles and a background if text is hard to read; try Mono Audio or Night Mode only when your hearing needs or listening environment call for them.
How do I turn on subtitles in Control Resonant?
Open Options → Interface and enable Subtitles. The interface also offers Subtitle Speaker Names, Subtitle Background and Subtitle Size, with Small, Normal and Large choices. These settings address different problems: size and background affect readability, while speaker names help identify who is speaking.

PlayStation describes the game’s basic subtitles as covering the main story and main characters only. Treat subtitles as support for primary dialogue, not as a complete caption track. The listing does not promise captions for every ambient conversation, radio line, grunt, or other sound cue. If you are relying on text to catch a particular line, be aware that it may not appear as a subtitle.

Which audio settings make dialogue easier to hear?
Start by making speech louder relative to competing sounds. In Options → Audio, raise Speech Volume; if effects or music are masking voices, lower Effects Volume or Music Volume instead of raising every channel.
| Setting | When to adjust it | What it changes |
|---|---|---|
| Speech Volume | Voices are too quiet against the rest of the mix. | Raises the speech channel. |
| Effects Volume | Sound effects are competing with dialogue. | Lowers effects relative to speech. |
| Music Volume | Music is obscuring voices. | Lowers music relative to speech. |
| Master Volume | The overall game output is too loud or too quiet. | Adjusts the overall level, rather than specifically prioritizing speech. |
| Controller Speaker Volume | You are using a supported controller-speaker output and need to adjust its level. | Adjusts controller speaker output where supported. |
Changing one competing channel at a time makes it easier to tell which adjustment helps. Avoid compensating for loud effects by raising Master Volume: that raises the overall output and may leave the relative speech-versus-effects balance unchanged.
Use a neutral baseline when diagnosing an unclear mix
Remedy recommends starting with Dynamic Range: Default, Mono Audio: Off unless needed, Hyperacusis Filter: Off and Bass and Treble: 0. This gives you a neutral point before adding accessibility adjustments. If bass or treble has already been changed, returning both to 0 helps determine whether an altered tone balance is making voices harder to distinguish.

Should I turn on Mono Audio?
Try Mono Audio if one ear is weaker, one audio channel is missing, or stereo separation makes dialogue difficult to follow. Remedy says the setting combines the audio channels and removes sound directionality.

Stereo keeps directional separation, which can help you tell where a sound is coming from. Mono sends the combined channels without that directionality, so it can make content in a less-audible channel easier to hear, but it also removes directional cues. If neither ear or channel needs accommodation, keep Mono Audio off while testing other settings.
Is Night Mode useful when loud sounds mask speech?
Try Dynamic Range – Night Mode when sudden loud moments are disruptive or make quieter dialogue difficult to hear. Remedy describes Night Mode as limiting dynamic range and reducing bass. It changes the loud-to-quiet balance; it is not a dedicated speech-boost setting.
If you do not need that adjustment, retain the recommended Default dynamic range as your baseline. Change to Night Mode only if reducing the impact of louder sounds improves listening in your environment.

Use the Hyperacusis Filter if high-frequency sounds are uncomfortable. The game offers Low and High settings. Try the lower-intensity option first, then adjust if needed; Remedy’s troubleshooting baseline is Off, so use it as a targeted comfort adjustment rather than a default dialogue fix.

Keep Bass and Treble at 0 while diagnosing an unbalanced mix. Once voices are clear and comfortable, make further tone adjustments only if you have a specific reason to do so. Changing several tone controls and volume channels at once makes it harder to identify the setting that helped—or caused a new problem.
Which setup should I try first?
Choose settings according to the obstacle: unreadable text, competing sounds, channel imbalance, loudness discomfort or the audio device. The combinations below are starting points, not claims that one profile suits every player.
| Your main difficulty | Starting adjustment | Trade-off or limit |
|---|---|---|
| Subtitle text is hard to read | Interface → Subtitle Size: Large; enable Subtitle Background if needed. | These settings improve legibility, but subtitles are listed as covering the main story and main characters only. |
| Speech is quiet compared with music or effects | Raise Speech Volume; lower Music Volume or Effects Volume if those channels are masking voices. | Master Volume raises overall output rather than isolating dialogue. |
| One side or channel is difficult to hear | Try Mono Audio. | It combines the channels and removes sound directionality. |
| Sudden loud moments are disruptive | Try Dynamic Range – Night Mode. | It limits dynamic range and reduces bass; it is not a speech-specific control. |
| High-frequency sounds are uncomfortable | Try the Hyperacusis Filter at Low or High. | The neutral troubleshooting baseline is Off; use the filter when comfort requires it. |
| You play on PS5 and want spatial audio through headphones | Use a compatible headset with PS5 3D Audio, after confirming the console output device and a format supported by the full audio connection. | Compatibility depends on the headset and the complete output path; the cited listing does not say that every headset supports it. |
Can a PS5 headset or 3D Audio help?
On PS5, the PlayStation accessibility listing says 3D Audio works with a compatible headset. First confirm that the console is sending audio to the intended output device and that the selected format is supported by the complete connection, including the headset or other connected equipment. Then fine-tune the game’s speech and competing-channel levels.

Do not assume that enabling 3D Audio will fix an incorrect output route or a format mismatch. If dialogue is missing or distorted, check the connection and routing before spending time on fine adjustments. A headset is optional; the right output depends on your platform, equipment and hearing needs.

Why can’t I hear dialogue through my headset?
If dialogue is missing, distorted or unexpectedly quiet, first find out whether the problem affects only Control Resonant or other applications too. Remedy’s troubleshooting sequence then checks game settings, system routing, the physical connection, audio processing and installation files. Restart and retest after changes so you can tell whether a fix worked.
- Compare with other apps. Play audio outside the game. If other applications have the same problem, investigate the system, output device or connection rather than treating it as a game-only issue.
- Review the game mix. Open Options → Audio. Check Speech Volume, Effects Volume and Music Volume, then use the neutral baseline: Dynamic Range Default, Mono Audio Off unless needed, Hyperacusis Filter Off, and Bass and Treble at 0.
- Check system volume and routing. Review the operating-system volume mixer and confirm that the game is routed to the headset or output device you intend to use.
- Test the connection. Reconnect the headset. If possible, test another headset or speaker, or another supported HDMI, Bluetooth or USB audio path to isolate whether the problem follows one device or connection.
- Temporarily disable audio processing. Turn off audio enhancements and spatial sound while testing. If the issue clears, re-enable features one at a time to identify the source.
- Test a supported Windows audio format. On Windows, try another format supported by your audio device and connection. Do not select a format the full output path does not support.
- Verify the game files. Use the verification option in Steam or the Epic Games Launcher, depending on where you installed the game.
- Restart and retest. After a change, restart the game and check whether dialogue is audible before changing additional settings.
When one channel is silent, Mono Audio can be a useful accessibility workaround, but it does not repair a faulty headset or connection. For a continuing system-wide problem, focus on the operating-system output route and hardware path; for a problem confined to the game, continue with the game mix and file verification.
