ProducerAI is Google’s browser-based generative music studio for turning natural-language ideas into songs, arrangements, lyrics and music videos. Google announced it joined Google Labs on February 24, 2026. The Labs directory now calls the experiment Google Flow Music (formerly ProducerAI). You can describe a mood, beat or genre, then refine the result conversationally; its Spaces feature can also generate small custom instruments, effects and music-making tools.

It is not the same product as making a track in Gemini, although both use Google’s Lyria family of models. ProducerAI/Flow Music is organized like an AI producer and studio, while Gemini exposes music generation through its Create music tool. This guide explains the workflow, track lengths, access requirements, controls, watermarking, safety rules and the practical differences between the two experiences.

What is ProducerAI, and why is it now called Google Flow Music?

ProducerAI is a web application that uses generative AI to help create and revise original music. Google describes it as a creative collaborator for writing lyrics, refining melodies, exploring arrangements and inventing genres. In the Google Labs directory, the current name is Google Flow Music, with “formerly ProducerAI” shown alongside it.

Google announced the move into Google Labs on February 24, 2026. The announcement said the service was available globally at producer.ai with free and paid plans, but names, regional availability and plan limits can change while the experiment develops. Check the current Google Labs listing and the product sign-in screen before relying on a particular feature or quota.

The service is aimed at people who want to direct a song in ordinary language rather than operate a digital audio workstation from the first minute. You can start with a request such as “make a dusty 90 BPM lo-fi beat with brushed drums,” listen to the result, and ask for a different arrangement, lyric approach or instrumental palette.

How does ProducerAI create music?

ProducerAI interprets a natural-language brief, generates a musical draft and lets you iterate on the result. Google says the preview of Lyria 3 is designed to understand rhythm and arrangement, with controls such as tempo and time-aligned lyrics.

Describe the musical goal

Your prompt can include a genre, emotional direction, tempo, instrumentation, vocal style, song form and lyrical subject. Specific constraints give the model more to work with: “four-bar intro, verse, pre-chorus and a wide chorus” is more actionable than “make it good.”

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Refine instead of starting over

After a draft, use conversational changes: ask for a slower tempo, a less busy bass line, a shorter intro, a brighter chorus or lyrics that fit the existing rhythm. Treat each request as an arrangement note to an assistant producer. If a change damages a part you like, keep the earlier version and branch from it rather than trying to reconstruct it from memory.

Use musical controls where available

The Lyria 3 preview is described as offering tempo and time-aligned lyric controls. The exact controls shown can depend on the current Flow Music build and account. A control that is absent from your workspace cannot be assumed to be available simply because it appears in an announcement.

How do I start making a song in ProducerAI or Flow Music?

Use the following process for a first project. Labels may change as Google moves the experiment from ProducerAI to Flow Music.

  1. Open the current Google Flow Music/ProducerAI experience. Sign in if the page requests an account and confirm that the service is available in your region.
  2. Start a new music project. Choose the creation area that accepts a natural-language description rather than a prebuilt template, if both are shown.
  3. Write a structured brief. State the genre or hybrid, approximate tempo, mood, key instruments, vocal choice, lyrical theme and intended length. For example: Instrumental chillhop, 82 BPM, dusty drums, electric piano, warm sub-bass, 16-bar loop that can lead into a full chorus.
  4. Generate the first draft. Listen for the elements that matter most to you: groove, melody, transitions, vocal intelligibility and whether the arrangement follows your requested shape.
  5. Give one kind of revision at a time. Ask for a specific change such as “keep the drums, replace the synth lead with muted guitar and make the chorus eight bars.” Isolating changes makes it easier to tell what helped.
  6. Use lyric and tempo controls when shown. If you need words to land on particular beats, edit the time-aligned lyric text rather than adding a long paragraph of prose.
  7. Save versions as you iterate. Keep a short note of the prompt that produced each useful take. Generative results can vary, and a later revision may not reproduce an earlier performance exactly.
  8. Export or share the finished result using the options in your account. Availability of downloads, sharing and remixing can change with the experiment’s plan and interface.

What are Spaces in ProducerAI?

Spaces are the feature that most clearly separates ProducerAI/Flow Music from a conventional text-to-song box. Google describes them as natural-language-created mini-apps for music, which can be shared and remixed.

Build an instrument

You might ask for a simple browser keyboard, a drum pad, a generative arpeggiator or an instrument with controls for envelope and filtering. The point is not merely to receive a finished recording; you can create an interface for exploring sounds.

Create an effect or utility

A Space can be an effect, a sequencing aid or another small studio component. A node-based modular audio-patching environment is one example Google gives, allowing users to connect processing ideas visually instead of writing conventional software.

Share and remix

Spaces are designed to be shared and remixed. That makes them useful for teaching a sound-design idea, handing a custom instrument to a collaborator or starting from someone else’s patch and changing its behavior. Sharing does not make every underlying sample or generated output automatically suitable for commercial use; you remain responsible for the rights and terms that apply to your project.

Can ProducerAI make full songs?

It can generate more than a short musical idea, but the available duration depends on the product, model, account and current rollout. Google’s initial Lyria 3 announcement for Gemini described 30-second custom tracks. Current Gemini help describes a short option of about one minute and a full-track option of about two to three minutes for accounts that have access. Google’s Lyria 3.5 overview advertises tracks up to three minutes.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
Google experience or announcement Length described What the qualification means
Initial Gemini announcement for Lyria 3 (February 18, 2026) 30 seconds The original announced custom-track format, generated from a text description or uploaded image.
Gemini Help instructions (accessed in 2026) About one minute, or about two to three minutes The short/full choices appear only when the user’s account and plan have access.
Lyria 3.5 overview Up to three minutes Google’s stated upper length for that overview; it is not a guarantee for every account or Flow Music project.

“Full song” in this context means a generated track with a longer arrangement, not a guarantee of a radio-ready master, unlimited stems or a multitrack session. If you need a particular structure, specify sections and approximate bar counts in your prompt, then inspect transitions rather than assuming the model followed every instruction.

What is the difference between ProducerAI and Gemini’s Lyria music generator?

Both experiences can use Google’s Lyria models, but they are built around different workflows. ProducerAI/Flow Music behaves like a conversational studio with Spaces; Gemini presents music creation as a tool inside a general-purpose assistant.

Decision point ProducerAI / Google Flow Music Gemini Create music
Primary interface Producer-style conversational workspace for creating and refining music, plus Spaces. Gemini chat’s Upload and tools → Create music workflow.
Prompt inputs Natural-language musical direction; Spaces can be generated from descriptions of instruments, effects or mini-apps. A text description or an uploaded image; Gemini can turn the visual idea into a musical prompt.
Controls highlighted by Google Tempo, arrangement and time-aligned lyrics in the Lyria 3 preview, with iterative producer-style requests. Choices for vocals or instrumental output, genre, style, tempo, templates and short/full-track options when enabled.
Typical output choices Generated music and, in the Flow Music description, original songs and music videos; exact export options are rollout-dependent. Tracks can be downloaded as MP3 audio or MP4 video with cover art.
Access model Google has described global free and paid plans for ProducerAI; current limits can change. Requires an eligible Gemini account, with age, language, activity and subscription limits that vary by account.
Provenance Google says generated outputs are embedded with SynthID. Gemini-generated tracks carry SynthID, and Google documents an audio-verification workflow.

Choose Flow Music when you want an ongoing studio conversation, custom Spaces or an experiment-oriented interface. Choose Gemini when you want a simpler prompt-to-track flow, image input or the documented MP3/MP4 download choices. You can use both, but do not assume that a control or duration available in one is present in the other.

Which Lyria version does each service use?

Google’s February 2026 material describes ProducerAI as using Gemini, a preview of Lyria 3, Veo and Nano Banana. Gemini’s initial Lyria 3 announcement described custom 30-second music from text or images, with generated lyrics and controls for style, vocals and tempo.

On September 4, 2026, Google said Lyria 3.5 was available globally in Gemini and added richer vocals, improved arrangements, templates, genre and vocal/instrumental selection, and short or longer tracks. Google also listed Lyria 3.5 availability in Flow Music, Google AI Studio and Google Vids. Because these are dated product announcements, the model label shown in your account is the authoritative indication of what generated a particular track.

What do I need to access Google’s AI music tools?

Requirements differ between Flow Music and Gemini, and Google can change them during an experiment. Gemini’s documented requirements are the clearest:

  • You must be 18 or older.
  • You must be signed in with a personal Google Account or a supported work or school account.
  • Keep Activity must be enabled.
  • Music generation must be available in your country or region and for your account.
  • Your language, subscription and usage limits can affect whether short or full-track generation appears.

For ProducerAI/Flow Music, Google has stated that free and paid plans are available globally, but it has not established one permanent quota, price or feature matrix. Read the current plan screen before planning a production around a specific number of generations.

What can I legally ask the AI music generator to imitate?

Google positions the tools for original expression rather than direct imitation of a named artist. A prompt that names an artist may be treated as broad creative inspiration, while filters and reporting systems address potentially infringing content.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Describe musical attributes instead of requesting a replica: instrumentation, rhythmic feel, era, vocal register, harmonic mood, production texture and arrangement. For example, ask for “sparse minor-key trip-hop with brushed percussion and a close, low vocal” rather than “sound exactly like [artist].” You are still responsible for complying with Google’s Terms of Service, generative-AI prohibited-use policies and any copyright, publicity or licensing rules that apply where you live.

What is SynthID, and does it prove who made a track?

SynthID is an imperceptible watermark Google embeds in generated content to help identify Google AI output. It is a provenance signal, not a replacement for a copyright registration, a complete chain-of-title record or a guarantee that every copy will remain detectable after heavy editing.

  • Please Note: To reach 10Gbps speed, keep the cable under 3.3 ft. For USB A Male to USB C adapters, try flipping the USB C connector. USB C Male to USB A adapters support bidirectional 10Gbps transfer within 3.3 ft

Google’s Gemini music documentation says users can upload audio and ask Gemini to check for SynthID as part of its audio-verification capability. Keep the original generated file and the account or project record if you need to document how a track was made; a watermark alone does not establish ownership of every input, lyric or sample in a finished production.

How should I write prompts for better results?

A useful prompt separates creative direction from technical constraints. Include only constraints you can evaluate when you listen.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Specify the arrangement

State the order and rough duration of sections: “eight-bar intro, 16-bar verse, eight-bar pre-chorus, 16-bar chorus, short instrumental break, final chorus.” This gives the model a map and makes revision requests more precise.

Describe sound, not a famous name

Use descriptors such as “tape-saturated drums,” “close-miked nylon guitar,” “airy three-part harmonies” or “wide analog-style pads.” This communicates the sonic target without asking for a direct imitation.

Separate must-haves from preferences

Write “must keep: 92 BPM, four-on-the-floor kick, instrumental” and then “prefer: marimba accents and a warmer bass.” If the output misses one preference, you can revise without discarding the essential brief.

Iterate in controlled passes

  1. Fix the groove and tempo first.
  2. Adjust instrumentation and register.
  3. Shape the arrangement and transitions.
  4. Edit lyrics for syllable count and meaning.
  5. Request a final balance or energy change only after the structure works.

Short, testable revision requests generally make it easier to identify which instruction changed the result. Save successful prompts because generative systems can produce different details on a later attempt.

What are the main limitations and failure modes?

The biggest limitation is variability: a natural-language instruction is not a deterministic score. The following checks help diagnose common problems.

  • The result ignores the requested form. Restate the sections with bar counts and generate a focused revision instead of adding more adjectives.
  • Lyrics do not fit the melody. Shorten lines, mark repeated phrases and use time-aligned lyric controls when available.
  • The track is too short. Check whether your account has the full-track option; the one-minute and two-to-three-minute choices are account-dependent in Gemini.
  • Vocals are not wanted. Select instrumental output where the interface offers it, and repeat “instrumental only” in the prompt.
  • A control or export button is missing. Verify that you are in the intended product, that your account is eligible and that the feature has rolled out in your region. Flow Music and Gemini do not expose identical controls.
  • A style request is blocked or softened. Remove the named-artist imitation and describe tempo, instrumentation, harmony and production characteristics instead.
  • A revision makes the mix worse. Return to the earlier version and change one variable at a time. Keep local copies of useful drafts.

Who should use ProducerAI instead of a conventional music workstation?

ProducerAI/Flow Music is a strong fit if you want to explore ideas quickly, do not yet play every instrument, or enjoy directing music through conversation. Spaces add value for people who want to prototype unusual instruments and effects rather than only generate finished songs.

A conventional workstation remains more appropriate when you need deterministic MIDI editing, detailed automation, multitrack recording, third-party plug-ins, stem-level mixing or a guaranteed repeatable arrangement. The AI tools can supply sketches and performances, but the product descriptions do not promise unlimited stems, sample clearance or a mastering workflow.

What is the practical bottom line for choosing a Google AI music tool?

Start with Flow Music when the goal is an iterative producer relationship or a custom Space. Start with Gemini when you want to upload an image, choose vocal or instrumental output and download an MP3 or MP4 through the documented Create music tool. In either case, check the current account limits, preserve version history, avoid named-artist imitation and treat SynthID as provenance assistance rather than a complete rights record.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I upload my own audio to make a new song?

The documented Gemini music workflow accepts text and, for generation, an uploaded image or video as inspiration. Google separately documents uploading audio to check whether it contains a SynthID watermark; that verification feature should not be confused with a promise that any uploaded recording can be transformed into a new track.

Are Google AI-generated songs royalty-free?

The product descriptions do not grant a universal royalty-free license for every output or input. Before publishing, review the account terms, confirm that your lyrics and source material are yours to use, and check local copyright rules.

Can other people remix a Space I create?

Yes, Google describes Spaces as shareable and remixable. Sharing a Space exposes its creative setup, so remove private information and do not assume that remix permissions settle ownership or licensing questions for sounds used inside it.

Why does my Gemini account show only a short music option?

Google says the short and full-track choices depend on account access, plan and availability. A missing longer option can therefore reflect eligibility or rollout status rather than a prompt mistake; check the account requirements and try again later.
