Have the agent wait until the Hindi content you want is visible, request any essential font using representative Devanagari text, then wait for the browser’s font-loading work to settle before taking the screenshot. Finally, inspect the image: browser font-loading APIs do not prove that every Hindi glyph came from the intended font or was shaped correctly.
Why Hindi screenshots need an extra font check
A page can finish navigating before a client-rendered application has displayed its final content. And even after Hindi text appears, the browser may still be loading fonts or laying out the page. Capturing too early can show a fallback typeface, missing marks, or a layout that shifts after the screenshot.
The reliable sequence is to wait for the actual content, request a critical font for representative Devanagari text if necessary, wait for font loading and layout, and inspect the captured image. MDN’s documentation for Document.fonts describes the document’s font set; FontFaceSet.ready resolves when fonts currently used by the document have finished loading and relevant layout operations are complete. It does not mean every declared font face was used, nor does it verify every glyph.
Prepare Playwright to capture the final Hindi content
The following Node.js example uses Playwright’s library API. Replace the URL, selector, and font family with those for your page. It waits for a specific content element to become visible, asks the browser to load the named face for representative Hindi text, waits for the document’s used fonts and layout to settle, and saves a full-page PNG.

const page = await browser.newPage();

waitUntil: 'domcontentloaded'
});

});
await page.evaluate(async () => {
await document.fonts.load(
'400 16px "YourHindiFont"',
'हिन्दी पाठ परीक्षण'
);
await document.fonts.ready;
});
await page.screenshot({ path: 'hindi-page.png', fullPage: true });
} finally {
await browser.close();
}
})();
Install Playwright and its Chromium browser before running the script. For example, in a project directory, install the package with npm install playwright and install the browser with npx playwright install chromium. The selector must identify the content whose visible state means the page is ready for capture; adapt it to the application rather than copying the example selector literally.
Wait for the right state, not just navigation
page.goto() reaching a navigation milestone does not establish that a client-rendered page has finished populating the target content. Wait for the content or application state that matters to the screenshot. If the page reveals Hindi text only after an interaction or asynchronous request, have the agent perform or await that step before the font checks.

Request a critical font with representative text
document.fonts.load() takes a CSS font descriptor and text. The browser can use the text to limit loading to faces relevant to its Unicode ranges. The example phrase is only a loading trigger: choose text that includes characters and combinations present in the actual capture. Use the family name and weight that the page’s CSS actually applies.
If loading the critical face rejects, treat that as a failed preparation step and investigate the font URL, network request, CSS declaration, and browser console rather than proceeding as though the desired font is ready. A resolved promise still does not inspect individual glyph coverage. For details, see MDN’s FontFaceSet.load() documentation.

Choose the capture mechanism based on the goal
For a one-off image, page.screenshot() is direct. For a visual regression test, Playwright’s toHaveScreenshot() assertion waits for two consecutive screenshots to match before comparing. That helps establish capture stability, but it is not a test that the intended Hindi typeface or glyphs are correct. See Playwright’s PageAssertions documentation for screenshot assertion options. Animation disabling and caret hiding can reduce incidental differences; they do not establish font coverage.
Inspect the screenshot and diagnose Hindi rendering
Open the output at a readable scale and examine the actual Hindi text, not just whether an image file was created. Look for fallback-looking glyphs, missing vowel marks, broken conjuncts, unexpected spacing, clipping, or text that differs from the page. The browser APIs report loading and layout state; visual inspection is what catches a font that loaded but did not render the required characters as intended.
- Fallback or missing glyphs: Check the applied CSS font family and weight, the font-face declaration, and whether the font resource loaded successfully. Confirm the chosen face supports the specific characters and combinations in the capture.
- Text or layout is incomplete: Verify that the target selector represents the final content state. Wait for the application’s data or interaction before waiting for fonts.
- The capture stalls during font readiness: Inspect font-face loading states and failed font requests, and record the Playwright, browser-engine, and operating-system versions. A Playwright issue report describes a Linux WebKit font-wait timeout with Playwright 1.63.0 and a successful 1.60.0 control; it is an example, not a confirmed general defect or official workaround. Check the report’s status before considering any version-specific change: Playwright issue #42986.
- Repeated screenshots differ: Check for changing content, animation, caret state, or environment differences. A stable repeated capture does not by itself prove correct glyph selection.
Keep visual comparisons reproducible
Rendering can vary with the host operating system, browser version, settings, hardware, power source, and headless mode. For meaningful comparisons, use the same browser and operating environment as the baseline. Playwright recommends separate snapshots for different browsers and platforms because rendering and fonts can differ; see Playwright’s visual comparisons guidance.
Record the browser and Playwright versions alongside screenshots used for regression comparisons. If a change in environment is intentional, establish an appropriate baseline for it instead of interpreting every pixel difference as a page change.

ScreenshotNeo is a website screenshot API and MCP server for developers. Its capture workflow removes known cookie/consent banners, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before the shot; each of those steps can be turned off. Bot checks, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits are not billed, with response headers indicating the page verdict and billing status. Its MCP server provides screenshot tools for AI agents, including Claude, Cursor, and other MCP clients. For Hindi font correctness, however, inspect the result: an API capture is not proof that every glyph came from a particular font.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does document.fonts.ready confirm that every Hindi character uses the intended font?
No. It indicates that fonts currently used by the document and relevant layout work have settled. It does not verify the font used for each glyph; inspect the screenshot and investigate the applied font and its character coverage.
Should I use a different screenshot baseline for another browser or operating system?
Yes. Fonts and rendering can vary across browsers and platforms, so keep comparisons within the same environment or establish separate baselines.
