To stop an Amazon deal-finding browser extension temporarily, disable it; to get rid of it, remove or uninstall it. The controls are in your browser’s extension settings, not Amazon’s account settings. Choose the instructions for Chrome, Firefox, Edge, or Safari below. If you are unsure which extension is involved, check its name in the browser before changing anything.

Should I disable the extension or remove it?

Disable an extension if you want a reversible pause: it remains installed, but its normal activity stops until you turn it back on. Remove it if you no longer want it in that browser profile; using it again generally means reinstalling it.

Choice What happens When it makes sense
Disable The extension stays installed but is turned off. You may want it later, or want to see whether it is causing a problem.
Remove or uninstall The extension is deleted from the current browser profile. You no longer want it, or prefer not to leave it installed.

Disabling stops the extension’s normal operation; removing it eliminates the installed extension from that browser profile. If your concern is privacy, removal is the cleaner choice when you do not intend to use it. A request for broad page access is a reason to review an extension’s permissions, but it does not by itself prove that the extension is malicious.

Think of disabling as a trial pause and removal as a decision to stop using the extension. A pause is convenient if you are troubleshooting pop-ups or want to compare how the browser behaves with and without the extension. Removal is more decisive if you do not trust the publisher, do not use the feature, or do not want the extension installed. You can reinstall an extension later if you change your mind, but you may need to set it up again.

  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.

These controls apply to the browser profile where you make the change. If you use more than one browser, check each one separately; removing an extension from Chrome, for example, does not remove a separate installation in Firefox or Edge. Likewise, do not expect an Amazon account setting to switch off an extension, because the browser manages it.

How do I remove or disable an extension in Chrome?

In Chrome, you can remove a shopping extension from its toolbar icon or from the extensions management page. To pause it instead, switch it off in its management settings.

  1. To remove it from the toolbar: If the extension icon is visible, right-click it and select Remove from Chrome, then confirm.
  2. To find it in settings: Select More (the three-dot menu), then Extensions > Manage extensions. Find the extension, select Remove, and confirm.
  3. To disable it temporarily: Open the extension’s management page and turn off its enabled control instead of selecting Remove.

Google Chrome Help describes the removal action as selecting Remove on the extension you want to delete. If you do not see the shopping tool in the toolbar, use Manage extensions rather than assuming it is not installed. The management list is also where you can check the extension’s displayed name before changing its status.

Chrome also provides controls for limiting an extension’s site access. Depending on the extension and Chrome’s displayed options, you may be able to allow access on the current site, on specific sites, or on all sites. Limiting access can be useful if you want to keep an extension but do not want it operating everywhere; it is not the same as uninstalling it.

Site access is a middle option between leaving an extension broadly enabled and turning it off completely. For example, if Chrome offers a current-site or specific-sites choice for the extension, you can review whether that scope suits your use. The available choices can depend on the extension and Chrome’s interface. If your goal is to stop all of the extension’s normal activity, disable it instead of relying on a narrower permission setting.

How do I remove or disable an extension in Firefox?

Firefox keeps extension controls in Add-ons and themes. Use the toggle to turn an extension off without deleting it, or use its menu to remove it.

  1. Open the Firefox menu and choose Add-ons and themes > Extensions.
  2. To disable the extension, click its blue toggle. Mozilla explains that disabling turns an extension off without removing it.
  3. To remove it, open the extension’s three-dot menu and select Remove.

If you are unsure whether you want the extension gone permanently, disable it first. You can return to the same Extensions page to turn it back on.

Mozilla Support puts the distinction plainly: “Disabling an extension will turn it off without removing it.” That is useful when the immediate goal is to stop the extension while keeping the option to restore it. If you choose Remove, confirm that the name in the menu is the extension you mean to delete, especially if you have several add-ons installed.

How do I remove or disable an extension in Microsoft Edge?

In Edge, open the extension controls from the puzzle-piece icon or the browser menu. The toggle disables the extension; the removal command uninstalls it from Edge.

  1. Select the puzzle-piece Extensions icon, then choose Manage Extensions.
  2. To pause the extension, use its toggle to turn it off.
  3. To uninstall it, open the extension’s More actions menu and choose Remove from Microsoft Edge, then confirm. You can also use the Remove control in Manage Extensions.

Menu placement and wording can shift between Edge versions. If the icon or labels differ, open Edge’s menu and look for the extensions management option rather than assuming the extension is missing.

Use the toggle when you want to keep the installation but stop it from operating. Choose the removal command when you want it deleted from Edge. If Edge asks you to confirm, check the extension name in the confirmation step. That helps prevent removing a different add-on by mistake.

How do I uninstall a shopping extension from Safari on a Mac?

Safari’s extension controls are in its settings. For Capital One Shopping’s documented Safari flow, open Safari > Preferences > Extensions, select the extension, and either clear its Enable checkbox to disable it or select Uninstall to remove it.

Safari’s labels and settings placement can vary with macOS versions. If your screen does not show Preferences or the same controls, use the extension’s current instructions or the Safari interface shown in your version of macOS; do not assume that an older menu label will match your Mac.

Clearing Enable is the reversible option in this documented flow; choosing Uninstall removes the extension. If the extension name is not the one you expected, pause and verify it before proceeding. The exact wording may vary with the installed extension and macOS version, so follow the current controls displayed by Safari rather than trying to force a menu path that is not present.

Why does an Amazon shopping extension need access to websites?

Deal-finding extensions may need to inspect shopping pages to compare prices, find or test coupons, apply offers, or display rewards. The scope of access matters: Chrome, for example, distinguishes between access to the current site, selected sites, and all sites.

Capital One Shopping says its extension monitors products viewed and purchased on e-commerce sites. A digital-exhaust guide from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania warns that some extensions can track private shopping behavior, including order history and products saved in an Amazon cart. That is a reason to check permissions and decide whether the extension’s function is worth its access—not proof that every shopping extension is harmful.

To review the situation, confirm the extension’s actual name in your browser, check which sites it can access, and decide whether to limit access, disable it, or remove it. Do not infer that Amazon installed an extension simply because it appears while you shop on Amazon; identify the publisher and extension in the browser’s own management page.

Permission scope and trust are related but different questions. A shopping tool that compares prices or tests codes may need to interact with pages where you shop. That explains why it might request page access, but it does not decide whether you personally want to grant that access. Consider the stated function alongside the sites covered by the permission and the publisher shown in your browser. If the access feels broader than you want, see whether the browser offers a narrower scope, disable the add-on, or remove it.

Do not treat the words “read” or “change” website data as automatic proof of wrongdoing. Nor should you ignore the permission simply because the extension is intended to find deals. The practical choice is whether the feature is worth the access on the sites where it operates. If you cannot identify the extension or its publisher, avoid guessing based on its appearance on Amazon; use the browser’s management page to check its name first.

How do I stop deal pop-ups without uninstalling the extension?

If the extension itself is still useful and you only want fewer messages, first look for notification settings in that extension. Capital One Shopping directs users who want fewer messages to its notification settings. If you want it to stop operating on shopping pages, disable it; if you want it gone from the browser, uninstall it.

These actions solve different problems. Changing notification preferences may reduce messages without stopping price checks or other extension activity. Disabling is the more direct pause, while removal is the option when you no longer want the extension installed.

Before making a change, decide which behavior you want to stop. If you only want fewer alerts, a notification preference may be enough. If you do not want the extension checking pages or displaying offers while you shop, use the browser’s disable control. If you do not want the extension installed at all, remove it. Turning off notifications should not be confused with turning off the extension itself.

What if the browser will not let me remove the extension?

If the extension is marked as managed by your organization, do not try to force-delete it. Organization policies can control browser extensions, and an administrator may be able to re-enable an extension through policy. Contact your IT team if this is a work or school browser.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Edge provides a policy page at edge://policy where applied policies can be viewed; Edge advises users to consult IT before changing organization-managed extensions. A managed setting may be intentional, so do not alter policies on a work device without authorization.

Chrome also notes that administrators can re-enable unsupported extensions through Enterprise Policy. The presence of a management message is a reason to involve the person or team responsible for the device, not to try workarounds. Removing an extension from a managed browser may be blocked or reversed, and changing a workplace or school policy without approval can create a separate problem.

If the extension returns on a personal device after removal, check whether it was restored through browser sync, whether a related program is installed on the computer, and whether browser policies are applied. If there are other signs of malware or a browser hijacker, use reputable security guidance and checks appropriate to those symptoms. A cleanup tool is not required for ordinary extension removal.

Try to distinguish a returning extension from a removal that did not take effect. Confirm the extension is still listed in the browser, note whether it reappears after signing in or syncing, and check whether the browser reports that it is managed. On a personal device, those clues help narrow the next check to sync, related installed programs, or policies. Security checks are appropriate when there are additional signs of a harmful program or hijacker; they are not a routine step for every extension removal.

Which extensions do these steps apply to?

The steps above apply to browser extensions generally; first confirm the actual extension name rather than assuming it is a particular shopping tool. Capital One Shopping says its desktop extension searches for lower prices while someone shops on Amazon and tests community-sourced promo codes at other retailers. Its help information lists Chrome, Firefox, Edge, and Safari and documents disabling and uninstalling.

Honey is another example of a shopping extension. Its FAQ lists Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Opera, and Edge and says it looks for coupons or deals while a person shops. These are examples, not an assumption about which extension is installed on your device. Follow the browser’s controls for the extension you actually see.

Capital One Shopping says it can display a lowest-priced match within 10–15 seconds when it finds savings. That timing is the vendor’s claim, not an independently verified performance result, and it is not necessary to know or rely on it to disable or remove an extension.

The browser instructions are the starting point whether the add-on is Capital One Shopping, Honey, or another deal-finding tool. Vendor help can be useful when you need a product-specific explanation, but do not use another company’s instructions just because the extension performs a similar job. Identify the installed extension first, then use the controls for your browser and, if needed, that extension’s own current guidance.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I disable an Amazon shopping extension?

Open the browser’s extension management page, find the extension by name, and turn off its enabled toggle or control. This pauses its normal activity while keeping it installed. Choose your browser’s removal option instead if you want it gone.

How do I remove Honey or Capital One Shopping from Chrome?

In Chrome, select More (the three-dot menu), then Extensions > Manage extensions. Find Honey or Capital One Shopping, select Remove, and confirm. If the toolbar icon is visible, you can also right-click it and select Remove from Chrome.

Can I disable a shopping extension on Amazon but keep it working on other sites?

Chrome’s site-access controls may let you limit an extension to selected sites or the current site, depending on its settings. Check the access options shown for that extension; other browsers may present different controls. Limiting site access is not the same as disabling or removing it.

How do I stop deal pop-ups on Amazon without removing the extension?

If you only want fewer messages, check the extension’s notification settings; Capital One Shopping directs users there for fewer notifications. If you want the extension to stop operating on shopping pages, disable it in the browser. Notification changes may not stop price checks or other activity.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Why is a shopping extension reading data on every website?

A deal-finding extension may inspect shopping pages to compare prices, test coupons, apply offers, or display rewards. Check the actual extension name and the browser’s site-access controls to see the scope. Broad access is a reason to review your choice, not proof by itself that the extension is malicious.

Will removing a browser extension stop it from returning after I sign in?

Browser sync can be one reason an extension appears again, so check sync settings if it returns after removal on a personal device. If it is a work or school browser, an organization policy may also control whether it is installed. Related programs and browser policies are other checks on a personal device.

What should I do if an extension says it is managed by my organization?

Do not try to force-delete it or change organization policies. Contact your IT team, especially on a work or school device. Edge users can view applied policies at edge://policy, but should consult IT before changing managed settings.

Is a shopping extension dangerous if it asks to read website data?

Not necessarily: page access can be needed for price comparison, coupon testing, or displaying offers. The meaningful question is whether you trust the publisher and are comfortable with the sites and data covered by the permission. You can limit access where your browser allows, disable the extension, or remove it.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Does uninstalling an extension from one browser remove it from my other browsers?

No. Extension controls apply to the browser profile where you make the change. If you installed a shopping extension separately in Chrome, Firefox, Edge, or Safari, check each browser where you use it.

The Bottom Line

Use disable for a reversible pause and remove or uninstall when you no longer want the extension in that browser profile. Confirm the extension’s name, use the controls for your browser, and involve IT rather than forcing changes if the browser is organization-managed.
