There is no universal console switch that disables every motion control, quick-time event (QTE), button mash, puzzle timer, or camera effect. Start in the particular game’s Accessibility, Gameplay or Controls menu. Turn off Motion Sensor Function Aiming for gyro input, enable a documented QTE Auto Complete option to remove QTE presses, or choose Repeated Button Presses > Hold when the game offers a hold substitute. These settings solve different problems: remapping changes which control you press, a hold changes the physical action, and auto-complete removes the required QTE input. The steps and labels below use documented examples from PlayStation and PC games, but availability depends on the game, edition, platform and patch.
What exactly are you trying to disable?
Identify the troublesome mechanic before changing a setting. “Motion controls” can mean tilting a controller to aim, while “motion” can also describe camera shake, blur or swaying in the image. A QTE can be a single timed button prompt, a sequence of prompts, or a repeated-button challenge. Each has a different remedy.
| Problem | Setting to look for | What it changes |
|---|---|---|
| Tilting or rotating the controller moves the reticle or vehicle | Motion Sensor Function Aiming, gyro aiming, motion aiming | Turns the motion-based input on or off; ordinary stick or button controls remain available if the game supports them |
| A timed cinematic asks for a button press | QTE Auto Complete, QTE Autocomplete | Automatically advances the QTE without the required presses when the game documents that feature |
| A prompt requires repeated taps | Repeated Button Presses > Hold, button-mashing assist | Replaces rapid presses with a sustained input, but usually keeps the scene or action |
| The picture causes nausea or discomfort | Camera shake, motion blur, sway, motion-reduction preset | Reduces visual movement; it does not disable gyro input |
| A control is physically difficult to reach | Custom controls, button remapping, toggle actions, adaptive equipment | Changes how an input is made, not whether the game requires the event |
The Accessible Games Initiative distinguishes play without motion controls, without rapid button presses and without button holds. Treat those as separate requirements when evaluating a game’s accessibility description.

- Set Motion Sensor Function Aiming, Motion Sensor Function Aiming Activation or the equivalent gyro option to Off.
- Return to a scene that uses aiming and verify that the reticle now responds only to the stick or other listed control.
God of War Ragnarök
Santa Monica Studio documents Motion Sensor Function Aiming Activation with an Off choice (the alternative is Aiming). That setting addresses controller movement used for aiming. It does not promise to remove camera shake, blur or every other motion effect; those are separate accessibility controls.
The Last of Us Part I
The game’s accessibility guide lists Motion Sensor Function Aiming with On and Off choices. Use that setting when tilting the controller moves the aim. If the discomfort comes from the image moving rather than from the controller, use the separate camera-shake and motion-blur controls described later.
Why Motion Blur is not a gyro fix
Motion blur is a visual post-processing effect. Disabling it can make a moving image clearer, but it does not stop a DualSense or other controller from steering the reticle. Conversely, turning off motion-sensor aiming does not necessarily remove a game’s camera shake. Change the control and visual options independently.
How do I skip or auto-complete quick-time events?
Look for QTE Auto Complete or QTE Autocomplete in the game’s accessibility settings. Where documented, this removes the required QTE presses rather than merely making them easier. It is not a standard PlayStation, Xbox or Windows setting, and one game’s option cannot be assumed to exist in another.
Marvel’s Spider-Man 2
Insomniac’s accessibility listing includes QTE Autocomplete. Its description states: “Auto advance all QTE sequences without button presses.” Enable the option, then replay or reach a QTE to confirm that the sequence advances automatically. The support page displays November 21, 2025; rely on the listed option rather than older wording about a planned update.
Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered
Insomniac separately lists QTE Auto Complete for the Remastered release. Do not infer that the setting is present in every Spider-Man edition, platform build or other game. Check the exact title installed on the device.
If no auto-complete option appears
Search the same menus for a repeated-press hold option, a timing adjustment, game-speed control or a minigame assist. Those alternatives may reduce the physical or time pressure without removing the cinematic event. The result should be described precisely: a hold is not a skip, an extended timer is not an auto-complete, and a remapped button still requires an input.
Can I replace button mashing with holding?
Yes, when the game provides a repeated-button hold setting. A hold substitute removes rapid tapping but generally preserves the action and its timing. It is useful when repeated presses cause pain, fatigue or loss of control but the player still wants the scene to play normally.

God of War Ragnarök
In Accessibility, locate Repeated Button Presses and choose Hold instead of repeated presses. The character still performs the prompted action; the physical requirement changes from rapid tapping to keeping the button depressed.
The Last of Us Part I
The game’s accessibility options likewise document a hold choice for repeated-button prompts. Apply it separately from motion-sensor aiming. A player can turn gyro aiming off while retaining ordinary QTEs, or use the hold option while leaving aiming unchanged.
Hold, toggle and auto-complete are different
- Hold: keep a button down for the required duration.
- Toggle: press once to maintain a state, where the game supports toggle actions.
- Auto-complete: the game advances the QTE without the player supplying the prompt input.
- Remap: move the input to another button or device; the event still exists.
How do I reduce camera shake, blur and other visual motion?
When the issue is the image rather than controller tilt, open the game’s visual accessibility settings and adjust camera shake, motion blur, swaying, field-of-view or a motion-reduction preset. These controls affect presentation and do not automatically disable QTEs or gyro aiming.
God of War Ragnarök
The game documents a motion-reduction preset in addition to its motion-sensor aiming control. Choose the preset or adjust the individual camera-related options if you want less visual movement while keeping motion aiming available.
The Last of Us Part I
Its guide lists camera-shake and motion-blur controls separately from Motion Sensor Function Aiming. Turn off the visual effects that trigger discomfort, then test a camera-heavy scene. If the controller still responds to tilting, return to the motion-sensor aiming setting.
Visual comfort settings can also affect how readable a scene feels. Change one option at a time so you know whether the problem is controller input, camera movement or blur.
What settings help with puzzles, minigames and combat barriers?
Many games provide assists for a particular mechanic rather than a master “disable gameplay” switch. Read each label literally and choose the narrowest option that solves the barrier.

God of War Ragnarök puzzle and minigame assists
- Extended puzzle timing gives more time for a timed puzzle interaction.
- Precision, Single Button or Auto styles change how precision minigames are performed.
- Repeated Button Presses > Hold addresses rapid tapping only.
These settings do not all affect the same event. An extended puzzle timer cannot be treated as a QTE skip, and an automatic precision-minigame style does not disable combat prompts elsewhere.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 timing assists
Insomniac lists adjustable game speed and dodge/parry timing options alongside QTE Autocomplete. Slowing the game or widening a combat timing window can help with reaction demands, but it is different from automatically advancing a QTE.
The Last of Us Part I input and minigame options
The game’s accessibility documentation includes hold/toggle actions and minigame input or timing adjustments. Select the option that names the specific interaction you cannot perform instead of assuming that one setting covers all gameplay.
What should I do when the game has no QTE auto-complete?
Use the game’s own control scheme first, then consider platform remapping or adaptive hardware. These approaches make an input easier to perform; they do not document automatic completion of the event.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
- Check every Accessibility, Gameplay and Controls submenu, including sections named Motor, Input or Minigames.
- Look for Hold, Toggle, Timing, Game Speed or Auto choices tied to the specific mechanic.
- Use the game’s custom control scheme to move the required button to a comfortable location.
- If the game still requires an input, use platform-level remapping or compatible adaptive equipment.
- Replay a representative QTE and record whether the change skipped it, substituted a hold, extended the timer or only moved the button.
How do I remap controls on PS5?
For a DualSense Wireless Controller, Sony documents the path Settings > Accessibility > Controllers > Custom Button Assignments. This remaps the console’s button outputs so a difficult button can be reached another way.
- From the PS5 home screen, open Settings.
- Select Accessibility, then Controllers.
- Choose Custom Button Assignments for DualSense Wireless Controller.
- Assign a more reachable button to the required action and save the layout.
- Return to the game and verify the prompt behavior. The on-screen icon may still show the game’s original button, and the QTE itself remains present.
Use the game’s own remapping first when available because it can preserve context-sensitive prompts and separate layouts. Platform remapping is a fallback for titles with limited control options.
When is adaptive hardware appropriate?
Adaptive controllers address how a player supplies an input, not whether a game requires a QTE. Consider them only after checking the free settings and remapping options.
PlayStation Access controller for PS5
Sony’s Access controller guide documents configurable input, external-switch connectivity and up to 30 on-console control profiles. It also specifies four 3.5 mm AUX expansion ports. Those are hardware specifications, not a guarantee that any particular game will auto-complete a sequence. Confirm the controller’s compatibility, switch type, mounting arrangement and the game’s input behavior before purchase.

Microsoft positions the Xbox Adaptive Controller as a hub for external inputs and profiles on Xbox and Windows. It can make a required press easier to provide when compatible switches or another controller are connected. It does not, by itself, remove a game’s QTE or convert every repeated prompt into an automatic action.

Switches and accessory kits
Compatible accessibility switches can be connected when the controller and game support them. Sony names the Logitech G Adaptive Gaming Kit for Access controller as an accessory example. Verify the exact model, connector, mounting method and platform support; compatibility is not universal.
How do these solutions differ?
The table separates the outcome, scope and likely use case so you can choose without confusing a skip with a remap.
| Approach | Scope | Outcome | Typical platform or example | Cost |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| QTE Autocomplete | One game’s documented QTE system | Automatically advances sequences without button presses | Marvel’s Spider-Man 2; Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered | Free in the game settings |
| Repeated Button Presses > Hold | Repeated-button prompts in supported games | Replaces rapid taps with a sustained press | God of War Ragnarök; The Last of Us Part I | Free in the game settings |

| Adaptive controller or switch | Physical method of supplying inputs | Provides alternative buttons, switches or profiles | PlayStation Access controller; Xbox Adaptive Controller | Optional hardware; price and availability vary |
Free, game-level settings are usually the best first step because they preserve the intended control context and require no additional equipment. Hardware becomes relevant when a required input remains physically inaccessible after those settings are applied.

How should PC players handle Steam Input?
Valve describes Steam Input as device-configuration software. It can change how a controller is presented to a game, but it is not a blanket gyro-disable or QTE-complete command.
God of War PC troubleshooting example
Santa Monica Studio advises PC players who see incorrect DualSense or DualShock prompts in God of War to disable Steam Input in that game’s Steam Controller properties. This is a title-specific troubleshooting step for prompt or controller-detection problems, not a universal instruction for every PC game.
- Open the game’s properties in Steam.
- Find the controller or Steam Input setting described by the game’s support guidance.
- Apply the change only if the game is showing incorrect prompts or input behavior.
- Restart the game and check the controller prompts and motion-aiming setting inside the game.
Do not disable Steam Input merely because you want to turn off gyro aiming. First use the game’s Motion Sensor Function Aiming or gyro option; Steam Input changes device configuration and may affect prompts or mappings.

The option is missing
Confirm the exact game, edition, platform and update. Accessibility features can differ between a remake, remaster, sequel and PC or console build. If tilting still moves the reticle after disabling motion blur, you changed a visual effect rather than motion aiming. If a QTE still appears after remapping, the remap changed the input location but did not auto-complete the event. Reopen the menu and match the setting name to the mechanic.

The prompt still requires rapid input
Look specifically for Repeated Button Presses, Hold or a motor-accessibility preset. A general control remap will not necessarily replace rapid tapping. If no hold or auto option exists, an adaptive switch or alternate controller may reduce the physical demand, but the game can still require the action.
A patch changed the label
Accessibility menus are updated over time. Note the game’s version and platform when asking for support, and recheck the publisher’s guide after an update. Do not assume that a setting documented for one release carries over to another.
The controller behaves differently on PC
Check whether Steam Input, the game’s native controller mode and another remapping layer are active at the same time. Multiple layers can produce incorrect prompts or duplicate inputs. Follow the game’s platform-specific support instructions, change one layer at a time and restart before testing.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Which documented examples can I rely on?
The following examples are established by named publisher or standards documentation, not by an inventory of every game.
- Accessible Games Initiative, March 2025: uses tags such as “Lets you play without using motion controls,” and separates rapid-button and button-hold requirements.
- God of War Ragnarök: Motion Sensor Function Aiming Activation, motion-reduction controls, repeated-button Hold, extended puzzle timing and precision-minigame styles.
- Marvel’s Spider-Man 2: QTE Autocomplete, adjustable game speed and dodge/parry timing options in Insomniac’s accessibility listing.
- Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered: QTE Auto Complete in Insomniac’s documented accessibility options.
- The Last of Us Part I: Motion Sensor Function Aiming, camera-shake and motion-blur controls, hold/toggle actions and minigame input or timing adjustments.
- The Last of Us Part II: an original 2020 accessibility guide documenting alternate touchpad and guitar input plus a motor-accessibility preset; those details should not be silently applied to another edition.
These examples show why a game-by-game check is necessary. They establish useful patterns, not a universal list of settings for every title or console.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I disable all QTEs on a console without changing each game?
No. Console accessibility and button-remapping features can change how an input is supplied, but the documented auto-complete functions belong to individual games. You must check the title’s own settings for a true QTE skip.
Does turning off gyro also disable steering and motion puzzles?
Only if the game applies the same motion-sensor setting to those actions. A setting named Motion Sensor Function Aiming may cover aiming alone; steering, balance or puzzle gestures can have separate controls or no documented substitute.
Will a remapped button change the icons shown during a QTE?
Not necessarily. Platform-level remapping can leave the game’s original prompt icons on screen while routing the physical press elsewhere. Learn the new mapping before a timed sequence and prefer in-game remapping when the title supports it.
Are accessibility settings shared between game profiles on PS5?
A PS5 custom-button assignment is a controller or console-level mapping, while most motion, QTE and timing choices are saved by the individual game. Expect to configure each title’s accessibility menu separately unless its documentation says otherwise.
