On iPhone, start with Keyboard settings; in Outlook, check Smart suggestions and AutoCorrect separately. The exact steps depend on the device, app version, and whether the feature is managed by your organization.
First identify which kind of suggestion you want to stop
“Autocomplete” can mean text predicted before you finish typing, a phrase inserted inline, a spelling or capitalization correction, or a suggested reply. A generative AI assistant is a different kind of feature again. Turning off one control may leave the others enabled.
- Prediction: suggested words or phrases while you type.
- Inline completion: predicted text displayed in the text field itself.
- Correction: automatic spelling, capitalization, or text replacement.
- Suggested replies: short reply options offered in an email conversation.
- Generative AI: features that use AI to produce or ground responses using content or data sources.
Before following a path, identify your device, the app, and its version. The labels and available controls can differ between desktop, web, and mobile editions.
Turn off predictive text and autocorrect on iPhone
Apple keeps predictive text and Auto-Correction as separate controls. Turning off predictive text stops suggestions above the keyboard; inline predictions have their own control, although Apple says turning Predictive Text off also turns off inline predictions. Spelling corrections may still appear until Auto-Correction is disabled.

- Open an app where the keyboard is visible and tap into a text field.
- Touch and hold the emoji or globe key, then tap Keyboard Settings. Alternatively, open Settings > General > Keyboard.
- Turn off Predictive Text to stop the suggestions above the keyboard. If you want to keep those suggestions but remove text predicted inside the field, turn off Show Predictions Inline, if that option appears on your iOS version.
- To stop automatic spelling corrections too, return to Keyboard settings and turn off Auto-Correction.
Apple’s current iPhone guide describes the prediction controls, while its support instructions list Auto-Correction separately. Names and placement can vary by iOS release, so use the labels shown on your device. Apple: Use predictive text on iPhone; Apple Support: iPhone keyboard settings.
Turn off text predictions, suggested replies, or AutoCorrect in Outlook
Outlook has distinct settings for predictions while typing, suggested reply buttons, and AutoCorrect. Choose the instructions for the version you use; the new Outlook paths do not necessarily apply to classic Outlook.

Control Workspace AI data sources as an administrator
Google Workspace administrators can turn individual Workspace data sources on or off for Workspace Intelligence, which supplies context to Gemini features. Google’s documented sources include Gmail and Drive/Docs. This is an administrator setting, not a personal keyboard or app-level autocomplete switch.

- In the Google Admin console, open the Workspace Intelligence controls described in Google’s administrator guide.
- Use the appropriate organizational unit or group settings to enable or disable the individual data sources. You need the Gemini Settings administrator privilege; group settings override organizational units.
- Allow up to 48 hours for changes to take full effect.
Disabling a source prevents generative AI features from actively searching that source, but does not necessarily prevent grounding in Workspace content a user directly references. Google says this control does not cover the Gemini app, Gemini for Education, Gemini Notebook, or additional services.
Turn off autocorrect in Google Docs
For Google Docs on a computer, the documented path is Tools > Preferences > Substitutions, where you can turn off autocorrect behavior. Google’s help search result says the mobile apps do not provide this management control, so use the desktop interface if you need to change it. If suggestions remain after you switch them off
- Check for a different feature: disable prediction, inline completion, correction, or suggested replies separately as appropriate.
- Confirm the app edition: Outlook’s new, classic, and web versions use different paths.
- Check whether the control is available to you: Workspace Intelligence source controls require administrator access, and some settings are limited by language or platform.
- Allow time for administrative changes: Google says Workspace Intelligence changes can take up to 48 hours to take effect.
