Do you mean AMD Radeon Super Resolution (RSR), or Sony’s QSSR? AMD’s PC documentation calls its driver-level upscaler Radeon Super Resolution (RSR); the available documentation does not establish QSSR as an AMD Radeon PC feature. This guide covers verified RSR setup and compatibility checks—not QSSR troubleshooting. The QSSR identification in the available material is secondary-source-supported, so confirm the feature’s name and platform with its official support documentation before following PC steps. AMD’s setup FAQ

First, confirm the feature and your system

If a game, setting, or error message specifically says “QSSR,” do not assume it refers to AMD RSR. Verify the feature name, platform, and publisher through official documentation for the product you are using. RSR is AMD’s documented driver-level upscaler, powered by AMD FidelityFX Super Resolution technology.

For RSR, AMD’s setup FAQ dated June 25, 2025 lists Windows 10 or Windows 11 desktop systems, discrete Radeon RX 5000 Series graphics or later, or select AMD Advantage systems, and a full installation of AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition 22.7.1 or later. AMD’s separate RSR feature page still lists Adrenalin 22.3.1 as the minimum. Since AMD’s pages differ, use the newer setup FAQ for current setup guidance and check the release notes for the specific driver package you plan to install.

Eligibility is not the same as activation: an eligible PC can still show no effect if the game is running at the monitor’s native resolution, in an unsupported display mode, or with another upscaling option enabled.

Install the appropriate Adrenalin driver

Before troubleshooting the feature itself, match the driver package to your exact GPU and Windows version. Check the release notes for the package rather than relying on a version number from an unrelated guide. For example, AMD’s Adrenalin 25.9.1 release notes specify supported Radeon product families and Windows versions for that package, and say its installer requires Administrator rights. Those details apply to 25.9.1 and are not a statement that it is the latest release.

If an AMD driver installation fails, confirm that the selected package supports your GPU and OS, then run it with Administrator rights if required. For laptops and all-in-one PCs, the 25.9.1 notes recommend using the computer maker’s OEM driver for full support and compatibility if AMD’s downloaded package causes problems. This is package-specific advice; check the current release notes for your driver before treating it as a general rule. AMD’s 25.9.1 notes also exclude Apple Boot Camp.

Enable RSR in AMD Software

  1. Open AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition and search for Graphics.
  2. Open Graphics Settings, then turn on Radeon Super Resolution under Global Graphics. To limit the setting to one title, use that game’s application profile instead.
  3. Allow for a momentary blank screen: AMD says enabling RSR also enables GPU Scaling under Global Display.

These illustrated steps are based on Adrenalin 25.6.1 Full Install and an RX 9070. AMD notes that available settings can vary by system, so labels or options may differ on another configuration.

Make sure the game can activate RSR

Render below the monitor’s native resolution

RSR remains inactive when the game renders at the monitor’s native resolution. Lower the game’s resolution to a supported choice below native; RSR can then upscale that lower-resolution image for the display. This is the most important check when RSR appears enabled in AMD Software but the game looks unchanged.

Use a supported full-screen mode

AMD’s setup FAQ says RSR works in exclusive full-screen or borderless full-screen games. The separate RSR feature page specifies exclusive full-screen. Because AMD’s documentation differs, check the instructions applicable to your Adrenalin version and game; if RSR does not engage in borderless mode, test exclusive full-screen. Neither mode makes RSR active at native resolution.

Resolve upscaling and graphics-feature conflicts

Choose the game’s FSR option instead of stacking it with RSR

If the game includes AMD FidelityFX Super Resolution (FSR), AMD recommends using the in-game implementation because it may be optimized for that title. AMD advises leaving RSR off when using FSR in the same game: stacking the two can duplicate processing and reduce image quality.

Check features RSR disables

AMD says RSR cannot run alongside every Adrenalin feature. It automatically disables Radeon Chill, Radeon Image Sharpening, and Integer Scaling while RSR is enabled. If one of those settings changes or becomes unavailable, that can be expected behavior rather than a failed installation.

Use this troubleshooting order

  1. Confirm identity: establish whether the requested feature is AMD RSR or a separately named QSSR feature, and verify its official platform requirements.
  2. Check eligibility: compare the exact GPU and Windows version with AMD’s RSR requirements and the selected driver’s release notes.
  3. Check the driver route: install a full Adrenalin package where required; for a laptop or all-in-one with driver problems, check the computer maker’s OEM package and the applicable AMD release notes.
  4. Check the setting: enable RSR globally or in the affected game’s AMD Software profile.
  5. Check game conditions: lower the game resolution below native and try an applicable full-screen mode.
  6. Check for overlap: use in-game FSR rather than combining it with RSR, and account for the Adrenalin features RSR automatically disables.
  7. Recheck package-specific issues: consult the release notes for the exact driver version if installation or compatibility problems persist.

AMD’s published historic performance figures are not a reliable troubleshooting benchmark: its feature page describes testing by AMD on February 8, 2022, with a Ryzen 7 5800X, 16 GB DDR4, Radeon RX 6800 XT, Windows 10 Pro, and Adrenalin 22.3.1 internal beta. That vendor test concerns one configuration and does not establish expected results for other hardware—or QSSR compatibility.
