Why can’t I join my friends in Minecraft Dungeons II?
Start by comparing the players rather than resetting the router. A working local session and a failing online session point to different causes, and a single player who cannot join often has a different hero type, account permission or entitlement from the rest of the party.

How do I fix Minecraft Dungeons II co-op step by step?
Follow these checks in order. After each change, fully quit the game and launch it again; otherwise an old session, token or lobby can remain active and make a successful fix appear ineffective.
- Put every player on the same current build. Open the game’s update screen on each platform and confirm the displayed version. Mojang’s October 7, 2026 version 1.1.2.0 hotfix fixed several client and server crashes, including a crash when exiting an online game, and said more fixes were in progress. Do not assume an older workaround still applies; check the current launch notes before repeating it.
- Quit and relaunch after updating. Close the game rather than merely returning to its title screen. Have every player launch again so the party is created from the same build and a fresh authenticated session.
- Sign in to the intended Microsoft and platform accounts. Verify the Microsoft account shown inside the game and the platform account currently active on the console or PC. Mojang said, “We’ve resolved most login and account linking issues on the backend, so if you are having trouble, please try again!” A complete quit and relaunch after signing in is part of this check.
- Select an explicitly online hero. Current player reports say online and offline heroes are separated and that an offline hero cannot join an online session. From the main menu, create or select a hero marked for online play. This is a reported workaround, not a confirmed universal rule, and there is no published promise that an existing offline save can be converted.
- Recreate the cross-play party. The official game information confirms cross-play, while current reports describe an eight-character party code. Disband the stale lobby, have the host start a new online session, then let the joining player enter the new code or accept a newly generated invitation. A code copied from an earlier lobby may no longer identify the active party.
- Check online-play subscriptions and family permissions. Online console multiplayer requires the platform’s online subscription. For a child or family account, verify that multiplayer is allowed, the guardian relationship is correctly configured, and the account that owns the game or Game Pass entitlement is being used as expected.
- Investigate Error 0020 as its own branch. Do not treat this code as a generic Wi-Fi failure. Mojang has a documented Error 0020 report involving the primary account starting online couch co-op while family members join; the report was reopened and has no universal confirmed fix. Use the diagnostic test described below, then preserve the exact account and license details for a report.
- Check service and network conditions. Confirm the host is online, the relevant platform service has no outage, all game versions match, and account permissions and subscriptions are valid. If you use custom DNS or manual port settings, temporarily review or remove those customizations before attempting more invasive router changes. Official Minecraft multiplayer guidance recommends these checks first.
- Capture a reproducible case and escalate. Record each player’s platform, game version, hero type, Microsoft account and family arrangement, subscription or license entitlement, exact error text and whether local-only co-op works. Submit those details through Minecraft Help or the official bug-report route rather than sending only a screenshot.
How do I fix Minecraft Dungeons II saying I am offline?
An offline message can describe either a service sign-in problem or the type of hero selected. Separate those possibilities before changing the network.

Confirm account authentication
On every system, sign out of the unintended Microsoft or platform profile, sign in to the profile that owns the game or has the required access, then fully quit and relaunch. If the message appears for only one player, compare that player’s account with a friend who can reach the online menu.
Check the hero type
If the account is signed in but the join option remains unavailable, select an explicitly online hero. Player reports describe offline and online heroes as separate pools. Use a fresh session
Have the host close the current lobby, return to the main menu and create a new online party. The joining player should accept a new invitation or enter a newly generated party code instead of reusing an earlier one.
Why is the invite button missing?
A missing invitation control usually means the current session is not eligible for online play, the selected hero is offline, or the account has not completed the required sign-in and permission checks.

- Return to the main menu and select an online hero.
- Start a new online lobby rather than trying to convert a couch-only session.
- Confirm the host is signed in to the intended Microsoft and platform accounts.
- Ask another player to create the lobby; this isolates a host-profile problem from a joining-player problem.
Check family and entitlement controls
On a child or family profile, a guardian may need to permit multiplayer. Also verify which account owns the game or Game Pass entitlement. A profile can appear signed in yet lack the permission or license needed to expose online controls.
How do I use cross-play between Xbox, PC, PlayStation and Switch?
Cross-play is an advertised feature across the supported platforms, but each participant still needs a valid online account session, a matching build and the appropriate platform access. The practical joining flow reported by players is to create a fresh party and use its eight-character code or a new invitation.
- Update all systems and note the version shown by each installation.
- Sign in to the intended Microsoft account and the local platform account on every system.
- Choose online heroes for every player who will connect remotely.
- Have one player create a new online lobby.
- Generate or display the current party code, or send a new invitation.
- Have each remote player enter that code or accept the invitation from the active lobby.
- If one platform cannot join, repeat the test with a new lobby and compare that player’s account, subscription and hero type with a player who joined successfully.
If same-platform play succeeds but cross-play does not, record that distinction in a support report. It is more useful than reporting only that multiplayer is broken.

As a diagnostic only, try launching the session from the affected family member’s licensed or otherwise authorized profile. Note whether the error changes, disappears or follows the same player. This test does not establish a permanent workaround and should not be treated as proof that license sharing is supported in every account arrangement.

- Which account is the guardian or primary account?
- Which account owns the game or Game Pass entitlement?
- Are the joining profiles child accounts, and are multiplayer restrictions enabled?
- Does the problem occur only when online couch co-op is started by the primary account?
- Does local-only co-op work when the same controllers and console are used?
Include the answers and the exact Error 0020 text in a bug report. Repeatedly restarting without changing the account or permission condition is unlikely to identify the cause.
Do console subscriptions and family settings block co-op?
Yes. Mojang’s game information states that online console multiplayer requires the platform’s online subscription. Family accounts add another control layer: the child profile must be permitted to use multiplayer, the guardian relationship must be valid, and the account with the game or Game Pass entitlement must be recognized correctly.

- Confirm the active console profile is the intended Microsoft account.
- Confirm the profile has the platform subscription required for online multiplayer.

Can I play couch co-op without joining an online party?
