If you mean Apple’s rumored HomePad hardware or iPhone Duo, there are no confirmed Apple setup instructions in the sources available here. A 9to5Mac report dated October 1, 2026, citing a leaker, says setup may use the Home app and include a Photo Face step; it also reports that photos may be available while the full iCloud Photos library downloads. Those details are unconfirmed, so the steps below separate that reporting from Apple’s documented troubleshooting for errors in the existing Apple Home app.
There is also an App Store app called HomePad – Smart Home Dashboard. It is a separate iPhone and iPad app, not the rumored hardware. View its App Store listing.

First, identify which HomePad you mean
“HomePad” can refer to two different things:
- Rumored Apple hardware: 9to5Mac reported on October 1, 2026, that a leaker described a possible Home app setup flow and Photo Face selection for HomePad and the rumored iPhone Duo. Apple has not confirmed these details in the sources available here. Treat them as unverified reporting, not instructions from Apple. Read the report.
- HomePad – Smart Home Dashboard: an existing third-party app listed for iPhone and iPad, described as compatible with Apple Home and Home Assistant. Its listing requires iOS 17.6 or later on iPhone and iPadOS 17.6 or later on iPad. Those are app requirements, not requirements for rumored Apple hardware. Check the listing.
If you are troubleshooting an actual error in Apple Home, Apple’s documented advice below may help. It is general Apple Home guidance, not a confirmed fix for HomePad or iPhone Duo.
Troubleshoot Apple Home hub and software errors
Apple says an Apple Home hub—such as Apple TV 4K or HomePod—is needed for home sharing and some other Home features. Its advice differs depending on the error shown.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:

- Rich, 360-Degree Sound – Delivers deep bass and crisp high frequencies for immersive audio in any room.
- Siri Voice Assistant – Control music, smart home devices, and get information hands-free.
- Seamless Apple Integration – Works effortlessly with iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Apple TV for a connected experience.
- Compact & Stylish Design – Small but powerful, fits perfectly in any space.
- Privacy & Security – Designed to keep your personal information safe and secure.
“Software Update Required”
- Open the Home app and go to Home Settings > Home Hubs & Bridges to check which hub is active.
- Update the active hub’s software, then retry the action that produced the error.
Apple’s steps are for this Apple Home error; they do not confirm that rumored HomePad hardware depends on a separate hub. Apple’s home-hub troubleshooting guide.
“Home Hub Required”
- If you do not have a home hub set up, set one up. Apple lists Apple TV 4K and HomePod among the supported hub devices.
- If a hub is already set up, restart it and try again.
Apple’s support article also recommends trying from an iPhone or iPad signed in to the Apple Account used to set up the home. This can help distinguish an account mismatch from a hub problem.

Check account, Wi-Fi, and security settings
If the hub is updated or restarting it did not resolve the Apple Home error, work through these checks:
- Apple Account: Try the action on an iPhone or iPad signed in to the account that established the home.
- Wi-Fi and interference: Confirm the device has a working network connection and check for wireless interference. Apple’s article includes a specific Apple TV wired-versus-Wi-Fi scenario, so check the connection type if the Apple TV is the active hub.
- VPN or security software: Temporarily check whether a VPN or third-party security app is affecting the connection, following the app provider’s guidance before changing security settings.
- Network settings: Apple also includes resetting network settings on the device displaying the error. This is a broader step that can affect saved network configuration; use Apple’s instructions and be prepared to reconnect to networks.
These checks come from Apple’s guidance for Apple Home hub and update errors. They are not device-specific troubleshooting instructions for unannounced products. See Apple’s complete guidance.

Fix Apple Home membership and sharing issues
For a home already set up in Apple Home, inspect its membership before attempting a broad reset. The person managing the home can open Home Settings > People to review members and remove someone. An invited person can use Home Settings to leave the home. Apple documents those membership controls, but they do not explain every reason an invitation might fail to arrive. Apple’s guide to shared-home controls.
If appropriate, the home manager can remove the person and invite them again. Apple’s cited guide does not establish that this will fix every invitation problem, so check the account and connectivity as well rather than assuming removal and reinvitation is a guaranteed remedy.

- Your favorite music and content – Play music, audiobooks, and podcasts from Amazon Music, Apple Music, Spotify and others or via Bluetooth throughout your home.
- Alexa is happy to help – Ask Alexa for weather updates and to set hands-free timers, get answers to your questions and even hear jokes. Need a few extra minutes in the morning? Just tap your Echo Dot to snooze your alarm.
- Keep your home comfortable – Control compatible smart home devices with your voice and routines triggered by built-in motion or indoor temperature sensors. Create routines to automatically turn on lights when you walk into a room, or start a fan if the inside temperature goes above your comfort zone.
- Do more with device pairing – Fill your home with music using compatible Echo devices in different rooms, or create a home theatre system with Fire TV.
- Say goodbye to drop-offs and buffering - With eero Built-in, Echo Dot doubles as a mesh wifi extender, adding up to 1,000 sq. ft. of wifi coverage to your existing eero network.
Apple Home member sharing is distinct from Family Sharing for an App Store app. The existing HomePad dashboard app listing says Family Sharing can include up to six family members; that listing detail does not describe Apple Home invitations or rumored iPhone Duo sharing.

Removing an Apple Home configuration is disruptive. Apple says accessories must be added again to a new home after the old home is removed, and its guide advises updating accessory software before removal. If the problem is the rumored iPhone Duo or HomePad
The reported Photo Face selection and staged availability of photos are not verified Apple setup steps. If those details match what you are seeing, the report may provide context, but it does not establish official menu names, supported versions, recovery steps, or a way to resolve sharing failures. Wait for Apple’s product documentation for device-specific instructions rather than applying an Apple Home fix as though it were confirmed for this hardware.
