To check whether a BioWare game’s online servers are active, search the exact game on EA Help’s Server Status page, then check the status page for the platform you play on. For Star Wars: The Old Republic (SWTOR), check its own official server-status page. If you need to know whether a service was permanently retired, look for the game and platform in EA’s Service Updates register; a missing listing on the live status page is not proof of a shutdown.

Why isn’t there one BioWare server status?

“BioWare servers” is too broad to answer reliably. Different games—and sometimes different online features within one game—can have separate services, shutdown dates, and support pages. The result can also depend on the platform: a status entry for one console edition does not automatically describe the PC or another console edition.

It helps to distinguish three questions: is there a temporary outage right now; has a particular online service been permanently retired; and, if neither is true, is the connection problem local to your account, platform, or network? EA’s live status page is intended for the first question, its Service Updates register is the key place to check for the second, and platform status pages help identify problems outside the game publisher’s service.

There can also be several dependencies behind one “online” button. Authentication may be handled separately from matchmaking, cloud saves, account linking, screenshots, a companion application, or a web-based headquarters feature. A failure in one component can leave another working. That is why an exact title, platform, mode, and feature are more useful than a general search for “BioWare servers down.”

How do I check whether a BioWare game is online?

Use the following checks in order. Start with the exact title and platform, then use the official source best suited to the kind of problem you are investigating.

  1. Identify the title, platform, and feature. Note the game’s full name, whether you play on PC, Xbox, PlayStation, or Nintendo, and what is failing: multiplayer, login, account linking, a companion feature, screenshots, or another online component. Record the edition as well, such as a console generation or a PC storefront. A failed multiplayer login is not necessarily evidence that every online service for that game is down.
  2. Check EA Help’s Server Status page. Search for the exact game or service, not just “BioWare.” EA describes the page as a real-time check for EA games and platforms. Its guidance is: “If you’re having issues connecting to the server for your EA game or platform, check its real-time status to see if it’s down.” A current outage indicator points to a service problem; it does not by itself establish a permanent shutdown. Note the time you checked because a green or red indicator can change while you are troubleshooting.
  3. Check the platform operator’s status page. Review the relevant Xbox, PlayStation, Nintendo, or Steam status information. The publisher’s service may be operational while the platform’s network, account authentication, store, or matchmaking service is not. Compare the platform that actually hosts your game session, not a different device in your household.
  4. Check EA’s Service Updates register for a retirement notice. Search for the game, platform, and—where relevant—the particular service component. This is the more appropriate source for documented permanent retirements. Pay attention to the wording: a notice about screenshots or a specific console edition does not establish that every online feature or edition has ended. Read the listed date and scope exactly as written.
  5. For SWTOR, check the official SWTOR Server Status page. It lists available servers and their status and type, making it a more specific check for that game than a broad EA status search. Look at the individual server entry rather than assuming that one unavailable realm means the entire game is offline.
  6. Check the game-specific support page. EA’s support hub can identify account-linking steps, known connection guidance, reporting tools, or edition-specific limitations. A support hub is useful context, but its existence does not guarantee that an online service is operating at this moment.
  7. If the official checks look normal, troubleshoot your connection. Confirm the EA account is linked where needed, restart the game and platform, restart your router, and check for DNS or cache issues. Close unnecessary background applications, then try again. If the problem persists, use the game-specific EA Help page or customer-support route.

Which status source should I trust?

Use the source that matches the question. No single page necessarily reports live outages, permanent retirements, platform problems, and every game-specific service in one place.

Source Best for What it can establish What it cannot establish by itself
EA Help Server Status Checking for a current EA game or platform service issue A real-time status indication for listed EA games and platforms That an unlisted game has been permanently shut down, or that every individual feature is working
Xbox, PlayStation, Nintendo, or Steam status page Checking the network or platform service used by your game Whether the platform reports a service issue Whether an EA game service itself has been retired
EA Service Updates register Checking for a documented service retirement A listed retirement and its stated platform or service scope and date That other editions or unrelated online features ended at the same time
Official SWTOR Server Status page Checking SWTOR’s listed servers Per-server status and type shown on the page The status of other BioWare games or platform networks
Game-specific EA Help page Finding account, connection, and support instructions Official troubleshooting and support routes for that title Uninterrupted live operation merely because the page exists
Community posts or reports Seeing whether other players describe a similar issue That other players may be reporting a problem An authoritative outage diagnosis or proof of permanent closure

Authority, specificity, timing, scope, and offline impact are useful comparison tests. A publisher or game operator is generally more authoritative than a forum post. An exact title-and-platform entry is more specific than a brand-level statement. A real-time indicator answers “what may be happening now,” while a dated retirement entry answers “what has been formally withdrawn.” Finally, identify whether the affected service is matchmaking, authentication, account data, a companion app, screenshots, or another component, and whether the base game can still run offline.

If a title does not appear on EA’s live status page, treat its status as unconfirmed rather than offline. Check the retirement register and the game’s support page next. EA also warns that “If you’re playing an older game, its online servers may be shut down,” so an old title deserves a retirement check as well as a live-status check.

What do EA’s BioWare-related shutdown entries mean?

EA’s register includes entries with different scopes. The dates below are the dates EA lists for the named entries; they should not be generalized to every edition, mode, or feature of a franchise.

Game or service entry Platform or scope stated Date listed by EA What the entry supports
Anthem Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and EA App January 12, 2026 EA’s current register lists this as the live-server retirement date for the named platforms.
Dragon Age: Inquisition PlayStation 3 April 28, 2026 The entry is specific to the PlayStation 3 listing; it does not establish the status of other editions or every online feature.
Dragon Age: Origins MP Screenshots Server The named screenshot service October 20, 2022 This is a component retirement, not a statement that all play in Dragon Age: Origins ended.
Dragon Age Inquisition HQ The named HQ service September 1, 2020 This is a separate service entry, not proof that the full game became unplayable.

Anthem is the clearest example of why the date and platform matter. EA announced a sunset in 2025, and its current register gives January 12, 2026, for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and EA App. If you are checking after that date, the register is evidence of the planned retirement for those named platforms; it should not be turned into a claim about other BioWare games. It also does not tell you that every single local or offline menu must disappear.

Likewise, the Dragon Age: Inquisition PlayStation 3 listing does not say that the PC, Xbox, or PlayStation 4 editions share that shutdown date. The Dragon Age: Origins MP Screenshots Server entry concerns a screenshot service, not the whole role-playing game. Dragon Age Inquisition HQ is another distinct service entry. When reading any notice, ask three questions: Which title is named? Which platform or component is named? What exact date and type of service does the entry describe?

Are Mass Effect: Andromeda or Mass Effect 3 servers still active?

Check each title and platform independently; a support page is useful but is not a live uptime guarantee. EA maintains a current support hub for Mass Effect: Andromeda with account-linking, connection, and player-reporting resources, but the hub alone does not confirm uninterrupted online service. Pair it with EA’s live status check, the relevant platform status, and the Service Updates register if you are investigating a possible retirement.

For questions about Mass Effect 3 multiplayer, search for that exact game and platform rather than assuming that a status or shutdown entry for another Mass Effect title applies. A listing for Mass Effect: Andromeda cannot establish the condition of Mass Effect 3, and a problem with one platform cannot automatically be generalized to another.

Do not confuse Mass Effect Legendary Edition with older online-service questions. EA’s help page for the collection directs players with connectivity issues to the EA Help Server Status page, but that support guidance is not itself a statement about the status of every older game’s multiplayer service. Use the exact product name shown in your game library and match it to the status and support entry you are reading.

How do I check Dragon Age online services?

Begin with the full Dragon Age title and the feature you want. “Dragon Age servers” could refer to a console edition, a multiplayer-related function, a screenshot service, or the Dragon Age Inquisition HQ service. Search the live EA status page for the exact entry, then search the Service Updates register for the same wording. If the register names only PlayStation 3, MP Screenshots Server, or HQ, do not silently broaden that notice to every version of the game.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

After an online feature is retired, the single-player campaign may still be available, but the remaining functions depend on the title and edition. EA’s policy says that in some instances a game may still be played and enjoyed offline; it does not promise that every menu, save feature, or connected bonus will remain.

What if the status pages are green but I still cannot connect?

A green status page narrows the possibilities but does not rule out account, platform, network, or local application issues. Work through the likely causes before treating one failed login as proof of a shutdown.

  1. Reproduce and describe the failure. Note whether you cannot sign in, reach matchmaking, load a server list, or use one specific feature. An error at account authentication points to a different dependency than a failed match search.
  2. Account linking: Check that the EA account is linked to the platform account you use, especially if the game’s support page identifies account linking as relevant. Make sure you are signing into the intended EA account rather than creating a second, unlinked account.
  3. Platform service: Recheck the platform’s own status even if EA’s page is green. Authentication, subscriptions, store services, or another platform function can fail independently of the publisher’s game service.
  4. Game and device state: Close and restart the game, then restart the console or PC. This can clear a temporary session or application problem. Confirm the game has finished any required update.
  5. Home network: Restart the router and check whether other devices or online services on the same connection are having trouble. If another network is available, a brief comparison can show whether the issue follows the device or the connection.
  6. DNS or cache: If basic restarts do not help, check for DNS or cache problems using the platform’s or EA’s official troubleshooting guidance. Avoid changing multiple network settings at once, so you can identify which change matters and undo it if needed.
  7. Background applications: Close applications that are not needed while connecting, then retry. Overlays or other software can interfere with a game session even when the publisher’s service is healthy.

If the issue continues, use the game-specific EA Help page or customer-support route and include the title, platform, feature that fails, and any error message. Those details make it easier to distinguish an account or connection issue from an announced service retirement. Tell support when you checked the EA and platform status pages and whether another feature or game connects normally.

Can a retired online service leave the game playable offline?

Sometimes. EA’s Service Updates policy says that “In some instances, where the online services for a particular game may no longer be available or supported, the game may still be played and enjoyed offline.” That is a possibility, not a guarantee for every game: check the specific game’s support information to determine which offline modes remain available after a service retirement.

A retirement can therefore have a narrower effect than “the game is dead.” A screenshot server, companion app, account-data feature, or multiplayer backend can be withdrawn while a locally installed campaign remains usable. Conversely, a title that requires online authentication or server-side progression may lose more functionality. Do not promise a particular offline mode unless the title’s official support information confirms it.

EA also gives a general policy context for retiring older services: it says the affected services typically account for fewer than 1% of all peak online players across all EA titles. That figure is not a BioWare-specific player count, does not describe current activity in any particular game, and should not be used to infer whether a server is active today.

Common mistakes when checking a BioWare server

  • Searching only for the brand: BioWare covers multiple games with different operators, platforms, and service histories.
  • Assuming an absent status entry means closure: An unlisted title needs a retirement-register and support-page check.
  • Reading a platform-specific notice as universal: A PlayStation 3 entry does not automatically cover PC, Xbox, or PlayStation 4.
  • Confusing a component with the whole game: MP Screenshots Server and Dragon Age Inquisition HQ are named services, not blanket declarations about all gameplay.
  • Treating one failed login as proof: Outages, account linking, DNS, cache, routers, and platform authentication can all produce similar symptoms.
  • Using a community post as the final authority: Player reports can reveal a pattern but cannot establish a permanent retirement.
  • Buying hardware or a replacement copy as a test: A physical game, networking accessory, or PC utility cannot prove that a publisher’s online servers are active.

Keep a short record of the exact title, platform, feature, time checked, status pages consulted, and error message. This prevents a later change in status from being confused with the original diagnosis and gives customer support the information needed to investigate.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does EA publish an uptime percentage or current player count for BioWare games?

The official sources identified here do not provide a BioWare-specific uptime percentage, current player count, or outage-frequency figure. A live status indicator and a retirement notice answer different questions; neither supplies those statistics.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Can I use the EA app’s status to confirm a console server is working?

No single check covers every dependency. Compare EA’s listing with the status page for the console network you use, since publisher and platform services can have separate incidents.

What should I search for on EA Help?

Search the exact game name, edition, platform, and feature where possible. “BioWare” is too broad, and a result for one Mass Effect or Dragon Age service may not describe another.

What if my game is missing from EA’s Server Status page?

Treat the status as unconfirmed, not automatically offline. Check EA’s Service Updates register for a dated retirement entry and open the game-specific EA Help page. Then check the platform status and try the official troubleshooting steps.

How do I know whether a notice is temporary or permanent?

A real-time Server Status incident indicates a current service problem. A dated entry in the Service Updates register documents a planned or completed retirement. Read the title, platform, component, and date; do not infer permanence from one failed login.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

How do I check SWTOR specifically?

Use the official SWTOR Server Status page. It lists available servers and shows each server’s status and type, so it is more specific than a general EA check for that game.

Are Mass Effect: Andromeda and Mass Effect 3 covered by the same status entry?

No. Check each title and platform independently. EA’s Mass Effect: Andromeda support hub provides account-linking and connection resources, while support guidance for Mass Effect Legendary Edition directs players to EA Help Server Status; neither automatically establishes the condition of every older Mass Effect multiplayer service.

What information should I give EA Support if I still cannot log in?

Include the exact game, platform, online feature, and the error message or point in the login process where the failure occurs. Also note whether the official publisher and platform status pages showed an issue when you checked.

Does a shutdown notice mean I have to delete or replace the game?

A service retirement describes an online service, not necessarily the base game or its offline modes. EA says some games can still be played offline after online services are unavailable, but the remaining modes depend on the specific title.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Can a router, cable, or PC utility tell me whether servers are active?

No. Hardware and utilities may help with a local connection problem, but only the publisher, game operator, and relevant platform status sources can document service operation or retirement. Do not treat a purchase as evidence that servers are running.

The Bottom Line

Check the exact game, platform, and online feature on EA Help’s Server Status page, then verify the platform network. Use EA’s Service Updates register for dated, platform-specific retirements and the official SWTOR status page for per-server information. If those checks are normal, investigate account linking, the device, DNS, cache, router, and background applications rather than assuming a permanent shutdown.
