On most Samsung Galaxy phones, press and release the Power/Side and Volume Down buttons together. A screen flash and thumbnail confirm the capture. If your Galaxy has a physical Home key, use Power + Home instead. You can also capture without buttons with Palm swipe, Bixby or Google Assistant voice commands, the Tasks Edge panel, or an S Pen. For a full webpage, use Scroll capture immediately after taking a normal screenshot. This guide explains every method, where files are stored, how to annotate and share them, and what to do when an app blocks screenshots.
How do I take a screenshot with Samsung buttons?
The button shortcut is the fastest and most widely supported method. Briefly press and release the Power/Side and Volume Down buttons at the same time; do not hold them down. Holding the buttons for too long can open the power menu on some Galaxy models.
- Open the screen you want to save.
- Place one finger on the Power/Side button and another on Volume Down. Their positions vary by Galaxy model.
- Press both buttons simultaneously for a moment, then release immediately.
- Look for the flash, shutter animation, or thumbnail preview that confirms the image was captured.
On older Galaxy phones with a physical Home key, press Power + Home together instead. If the first attempt opens a menu or changes the volume, shorten the press and make sure both buttons are contacted at exactly the same time.
How can I screenshot without pressing the buttons?
Samsung offers several hands-free or touch-based alternatives. Availability depends on your model, One UI version, and country, so a missing option does not necessarily indicate a fault.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Use Palm swipe to capture
Palm swipe is useful when a case, an injury, or button placement makes the hardware shortcut awkward.
- Open Settings.
- Tap Advanced features.
- Choose Motions and gestures.
- Turn on Palm swipe to capture.
- Place the edge of your hand on one side of the display and swipe across to the other side.
The gesture works from either side when supported. Keep the edge of your hand in contact with the glass as you move across it. Menus and the feature name can differ by device, software release, and region; some Galaxy models do not include Palm swipe at all.
Ask Bixby or Google Assistant
For a hands-free capture, wake your preferred assistant and say “Hey Bixby, take a screenshot” or “Hey Google, take a screenshot.” The assistant must be set up and allowed to respond on the current screen. Voice capture is convenient when your hands are occupied, but it is slower than the button shortcut and may be unsuitable in a quiet meeting or shared space.
Add a shortcut to the Tasks Edge panel
On Galaxy phones that provide the Tasks Edge panel, configure the panel with a Take screenshot shortcut. Open the Edge panel from the handle, select the shortcut, and the current screen is captured without using the side buttons. The exact panel-management screens vary across One UI versions; if Tasks is not listed, your model or software may not support that panel.

How do I capture an entire webpage or long conversation?
Use Scroll capture after a regular screenshot. It stitches additional screenfuls into one tall image, but the control appears only when Samsung detects that the current content can scroll. Some websites and apps deliberately disable it.
- Take a normal screenshot with a supported method.
- When the screenshot toolbar appears, tap the Scroll capture icon, shown as two downward arrows.
- Continue tapping the icon to extend the image down the page. Each tap adds another section.
- Stop when the required content is included. The resulting file is saved as one long screenshot.
If you do not see the icon, swipe through the page first to confirm that it actually scrolls, then capture again. A fixed screen, a protected app, or an unsupported browser view can prevent the option from appearing. Very long captures may be harder to read or share, so stop at the relevant section rather than adding unnecessary pages.
How do I use an S Pen for screenshots and annotations?
Galaxy models with S Pen support provide more precise capture and markup tools. Use Air command > Screen write to capture the current page and open drawing tools immediately. You can write, highlight, or mark the image before saving or sharing it.
For a specific part of the screen, open Air command and choose Smart Select. On One UI 6.1.1 and later, Samsung uses the newer name AI Select on supported devices. Draw or adjust the selection around the region you need, then save or share that crop instead of capturing the entire display.

Screen write is best for signing off a document, circling an error, or adding an explanation to a support request. Smart Select or AI Select is better when precision matters, such as copying a map detail or a single paragraph. Check your exact Galaxy model before buying or borrowing an S Pen: not every Galaxy phone supports S Pen features, and capabilities differ among compatible models.
Where are Samsung screenshots saved?
Most captures appear in the Gallery app under Gallery > Albums > Screenshots. If Gallery is not showing the image, open My Files > Images; screenshots are normally listed there as image files.
Open a screenshot from Gallery to use Samsung’s post-capture tools. Draw lets you mark up or crop the image, Add tag helps you organize it for later searches, and Share sends it to another app or contact. A long screenshot is stored alongside ordinary captures, so the Screenshots album is the quickest place to review both.

Why can’t I screenshot my banking app?
Banking, password-manager, streaming, and other security-sensitive apps can deliberately block screenshots. Galaxy may show the notice “Can’t take screenshot due to security measure.” This is an app or system privacy restriction, not a button-timing problem, and Palm swipe, voice commands, Scroll capture, and Edge shortcuts generally cannot bypass it.
Use the bank’s built-in receipt, statement-download, or secure-share feature instead. If you need to document a problem for support, ask the institution which approved export method it accepts; do not photograph confidential information with another device unless its policy permits that.
What should I do if Samsung screenshots are not working?
Work through the checks below in order so you can distinguish a gesture problem from an app restriction.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems- Retry the button shortcut: press Power/Side and Volume Down briefly and simultaneously. A long press can open the power menu or alter the volume instead.
- Check the correct controls: older phones with a physical Home key require Power + Home, and button positions differ among models.
- Verify Palm swipe: return to Settings > Advanced features > Motions and gestures and make sure Palm swipe to capture is enabled. If the setting is absent, the model or software may not support it.
- Test another app: if screenshots work on the Home screen but fail only in a bank or protected service, the app is enforcing a security policy.
- Check the scroll condition: Scroll capture appears only when the page can scroll and the app allows a long capture.
- Use Samsung’s support tools for persistent faults: Samsung’s UK guidance suggests Settings > General management > Reset > Reset all settings for unusual ongoing behavior, followed by help through Samsung Members. Reset all settings does not erase your personal files, but it returns system preferences to their defaults, so review the on-screen warnings first.
How do One UI version and country affect screenshot features?
Samsung changes menu labels and feature availability across Galaxy models, One UI releases, and regional software. Palm swipe may not be present, Edge-panel options can differ, and AI Select is a newer label used on supported devices running One UI 6.1.1 or later. Treat the paths in this guide as the standard locations, then use Settings search for “screenshot,” “Palm swipe,” or “Edge panels” when your labels differ.

- 5-in-1 Connectivity: Equipped with a 4K HDMI port, a 5 Gbps USB-C data port, two 5 Gbps USB-A ports, and a USB C 100W PD-IN port. Note: The USB C 100W PD-IN port supports only charging and does not support data transfer devices such as headphones or speakers.
- Powerful Pass-Through Charging: Supports up to 85W pass-through charging so you can power up your laptop while you use the hub. Note: Pass-through charging requires a charger (not included). Note: To achieve full power for iPad, we recommend using a 45W wall charger.
- Transfer Files in Seconds: Move files to and from your laptop at speeds of up to 5 Gbps via the USB-C and USB-A data ports. Note: The USB C 5Gbps Data port does not support video output.
- HD Display: Connect to the HDMI port to stream or mirror content to an external monitor in resolutions of up to 4K@30Hz. Note: The USB-C ports do not support video output.
- What You Get: Anker 332 USB-C Hub (5-in-1), welcome guide, our worry-free 18-month warranty, and friendly customer service.
Security behavior also depends on the app, not just the phone. A feature that works in Gallery or a browser may be blocked in a financial or enterprise application. Keeping One UI updated can add or rename tools, but an update cannot override an app’s deliberate capture restriction.
How do I make screenshots easier to manage?
Capture only the content you need, then edit it before sending. Crop out unrelated account details, use Draw to point to the relevant control, and add a tag when the image will be useful later. For long webpages, stop Scroll capture as soon as the needed section is included; shorter files load faster and are easier for recipients to read.
When sharing sensitive material, inspect the image for notifications, contact names, addresses, or one-time codes that appeared at the top of the screen. Samsung’s Share control sends the file to another app, but the destination’s privacy and retention rules still apply.

How do I screenshot on a Samsung Galaxy tablet?
Use the same Power/Side plus Volume Down shortcut when your tablet has those controls. If it supports an S Pen, Air command’s Screen write and selection tools may provide easier capture and annotation than the buttons.
Can I change where Samsung screenshots are stored?
Samsung normally places them in the Screenshots album and the Images view in My Files. You can move or copy individual files afterward with My Files, but the default capture location and album name can vary with software updates.
Why did my screenshot look black or show a blank video frame?
Protected video and other DRM-controlled content can hide the image even when the capture gesture succeeds. The restriction comes from the content provider, so use its download, clip, or sharing function instead of trying alternative screenshot gestures.
How can I capture a QR code or small detail without the rest of the screen?
On an S Pen-compatible Galaxy, use Smart Select or AI Select to draw a region around the code or detail, then save or share that selection. Without an S Pen, take a normal screenshot and crop it with the Gallery editor.
