To capture an entire webpage, use your browser or phone’s built-in full-page command rather than a normal screenshot. On desktop, Chrome’s DevTools can save a full document as a PNG, Firefox and Edge have dedicated full-page commands, Safari on iPhone and iPad can save a long page as an image or PDF, and supported Android devices offer Capture more or Scroll capture.
A full-page screenshot includes content below the visible viewport. The steps differ by device, and pages with lazy-loaded images, sticky elements, animations, or nested scrolling areas need an extra quality check. What is a full-page screenshot, and when should you use one?
A normal screenshot records only the pixels currently visible on your screen. A full-page screenshot stitches or renders the page below the viewport into one tall image (or, on some phones, a PDF). It is useful for design reviews, bug reports, documentation, archival copies, and sharing a page without sending several separate images.

The result usually represents the document itself, not every independently scrolling surface inside it. A dashboard panel, chat window, modal, or table with its own scrollbar may need a separate capture after you scroll that region into view.

How do I capture a full webpage in Chrome on a computer?
Chrome’s DevTools Command Menu can render the entire document and save it as a PNG, even when the page is much taller than the screen.
- Open the webpage and wait for its initial content to finish loading.
- Open DevTools with F12, or use Chrome’s developer-tools command from the browser menu.
- Open the DevTools Command Menu with Ctrl+Shift+P on Windows, Linux, or Chromebook. On macOS, press Cmd+Shift+P.
- Type Capture full size screenshot.
- Run that command. Chrome saves a full-page PNG, normally to your configured downloads folder.
When Chrome captures the wrong height
Let scripts finish and scroll through the page once before repeating the command. Scrolling gives lazy-loaded images and embeds an opportunity to appear. If the page contains a nested scroll box, the command generally captures the outer document; capture the inner element separately or use a normal viewport screenshot after bringing that region into view.

Firefox has a built-in Screenshot tool with a Save full page option. The result can be downloaded as an image or copied to the clipboard.
- Open the page and wait for the visible content to load.
- Right-click an empty part of the page and choose Take Screenshot, or open Firefox’s screenshot command from the browser interface.
- Choose Save full page.
- Download the image, or choose the copy option if you want to paste it into another application.
If the Screenshot control is not visible, enable the screenshot toolbox button through Firefox’s toolbar customization. Firefox also offers a Developer Tools route for capturing the complete page or a single element.
How do I capture an entire webpage in Microsoft Edge?
Edge’s Screenshot command captures content beyond the screen and includes options for copying, saving, and marking up the result.
- Open the webpage and allow it to finish loading.
- Press Ctrl+Shift+S, or open the browser menu and choose Screenshot.
- Select Capture full page.
- Review the capture, add drawing or markup if required, then choose Copy or Save.
Feature availability and exact behavior can vary by device, market, and browser version. If the shortcut does nothing, update Edge and use the browser menu to check the current command wording.
How do I capture a complete webpage in Safari on a Mac?
Safari can capture the page through Web Inspector. This route is useful when you need an image of the document rather than a printout.

- Open Safari Settings, select Advanced, and enable the web-developer features.
- Open the webpage, then open Web Inspector from Safari’s development tools.
- In the document tree, select the page’s
<html>element. - Open that element’s context menu and choose the capture command for the element or page.
- Save the resulting image and inspect it at the top, middle, and bottom.
Safari’s desktop workflow is more technical than the phone workflow. For a page that is easier to print than to inspect, the browser’s print dialog can produce a PDF, but that is a print layout rather than a pixel-for-pixel webpage image.
How do I take a full-page screenshot in Safari on an iPhone or iPad?
Safari on iPhone and iPad can save a long webpage as a single image or as a PDF through the screenshot preview.
- Take a screenshot. On Face ID iPhones, press and release the side button and volume-up button together. On Home-button models, press the side button and Home button together.
- Tap the screenshot preview that appears.
- Tap Full Page at the top of the editor.
- Scroll the preview to check the entire page.
- Choose Save to Photos for an image, or choose Save PDF to Files for a document.
The Full Page tab appears for webpages and other supported long documents. If it is absent, you captured an app view that does not expose a full-page document, or the page has not finished loading.
How do I take a scrolling screenshot on Android?
Many Android phones and tablets offer an extended capture immediately after a normal screenshot, but the label and hardware shortcut depend on the manufacturer and Android version.
- Open the webpage and wait for the content to load.
- Take a normal screenshot using your device’s hardware shortcut.
- In the screenshot preview or toolbar, look for Capture more, Scroll capture, or similar wording.
- Tap the control and extend the selection downward until the required content is included.
- Save the resulting image.
The option may not appear when the app does not expose a scrollable screen. A page with a nested scrolling panel can also stop the extension at the outer document; in that case, capture the panel separately or use a desktop browser.
What should I do before taking a full-page capture?
A few preparation steps prevent missing images, duplicated controls, and incomplete pages.
- Wait for the initial load: do not start while the page is still replacing placeholders.
- Trigger lazy loading: scroll from top to bottom once, pausing where images or embeds appear.
- Close transient UI: dismiss consent notices, newsletter forms, chat bubbles, and menus when they obscure content.
- Set the intended viewport: desktop and mobile layouts can contain different text, navigation, or image crops.
- Stop animations when possible: a moving carousel or video may be caught between frames in a long capture.
- Check authentication: make sure you are signed in if the page is private and that the capture method is permitted by your organization.
How can I check whether the screenshot is complete?
Open the saved file at a readable zoom and inspect three points rather than trusting the thumbnail.

- Check the top for a duplicated or stretched header.
- Check the middle for blank image placeholders, seams, or content hidden behind a sticky bar.
- Check the bottom for truncated sections, missing footer links, and a clean final edge.
Compare the capture with the live page’s scroll height. A very tall image may be difficult to view or share; in that case, a PDF or a series of viewport captures can be more practical than reducing the image until text is unreadable.
Why do full-page screenshots fail, and how can I fix them?
The full-page command is missing
Update the browser and check the current menu wording. Firefox may require the Screenshot toolbox button, while Edge’s shortcut can vary with browser configuration; opening the menu is a reliable way to discover the available command.
The capture stops before the footer
Scroll through the page first so lazy-loaded content is requested. Repeat the capture after dismissing overlays and confirm that the footer is part of the document rather than a separate scrolling region.
Images are blank or low quality
Wait for network activity to settle, then revisit each image area before capturing. A blocked resource, a lazy loader that needs an intersection event, or an image that is still decoding can leave an empty region; a second capture after a complete scroll often resolves it.

Full-page tools may record a fixed element each time the document is rendered or may leave it over the content. Hide the element temporarily with the page’s own controls, use browser developer tools to hide its selector for a one-off capture, or capture the page through a method that removes such overlays before rendering.
A dashboard or table is cut off
That content probably lives in a nested scroll container. Scroll the inner panel and capture it as an element or a normal viewport image; a document-level full-page command does not automatically expand every child scrollbar.
The page changes while it is being captured
Pause carousels and video, wait for ads and personalization to settle, and capture at a consistent time. If the page is still unstable, save a PDF or use a scripted capture with an explicit wait condition.

Can I take a full-page screenshot of a page behind a login?

Why is my long screenshot too large to email or upload?
A tall PNG can be many times larger than a normal viewport image. Resize it, export a PDF, compress a copy for sharing, or split the page into logical sections while retaining the original file for reference.
Will a full-page screenshot include content loaded after I stop scrolling?
