Sony has not published one official collector’s-edition carton size. A standard PlayStation game case is a known format, but a deluxe or limited edition may include an art book, steelbook, soundtrack, statue, map or molded tray in packaging designed for that specific release.

Three practical size classes explain most buying decisions:
- Standard game case: approximately 0.5 inch deep and around 6.6 inches high by 4.6 inches wide. These fit standard acrylic protectors.
- Deluxe or collector’s box: commonly 1–6 inches deep. A Bloodborne box is listed at 7 × 5.4 × 1.2 inches, while the Metal Gear Solid V Diamond Dogs edition is 11.9 × 5.5 × 5.8 inches.

That variance is why a product marketed as a “PS5 case” may protect only the disc case, not the collector’s-edition package surrounding it. Treat the outside dimensions of your specific box as the deciding specification.
Is Kallax the best shelving for a mixed PlayStation collection?
For most collectors, yes. Kallax’s 13 × 13 × 15-inch cubbies accept standard cases, mid-size deluxe boxes and many deep editions while allowing the collection to expand one unit at a time. IGN’s Matt Thrower wrote that “Kallax might not be made specifically for video game storage, but there are good reasons it’s such a popular generic storage option.”

A 2×4 Kallax is commonly cited as holding roughly 8–16 games depending on how boxes are arranged, and the unit is listed at about 55 pounds. A 4×4 unit was reported at $180 at one point, while a 2×4 unit was reported at $80 stacked above it; another IKEA buying option showed $300. Confirm the current configuration and local price.
How different boxes fit in a Kallax cube
- Standard PS cases: stand spine-out like Blu-rays. A four-shelf insert, reported at about $30, creates additional levels for thin cases.
- Mid-size CEs: Bloodborne-class 1.2-inch boxes and Final Fantasy deluxe boxes around 1.7–2.5 inches deep can stand or share a short stack. Keep the artwork supported rather than compressing boxes under a heavy pile.

Which acrylic case fits a standard PlayStation game case?

How to order a one-off custom case
- Empty the package only if necessary. Measure the outside of the complete box, including an outer sleeve, plastic tray or removable lid that will remain on display.
- Record height, width and depth in the orientation you will display. Photograph the tape measure beside each dimension so you can catch a mistaken axis.
- Add clearance. Aegis Acrylic’s builder adds about 1/8 inch per side, or roughly 1/4 inch total to each dimension. Similar custom listings commonly add about 3 mm or 1/8 inch.
- Check the maker’s interior dimensions. Do not compare your box to an advertised exterior size; the panel thickness consumes internal space.
- Choose the material. Three-millimeter acrylic suits many boxes, while 4–5 mm is more appropriate for very large panels or a premium presentation.
- Confirm the door and access method. Sliding bottoms, magnetic fronts, screw-together panels and wall mounts are not interchangeable when you need to remove a sealed box later.
Display Geek’s catalog says its listed Zelda case has a “100% Guaranteed Fit or your money back” policy. Treat any fit guarantee as applying only to the exact SKU and dimensions covered by that maker, not to every CE.

Which enclosed cabinet is best for dust and a living-room display?
Choose an enclosed cabinet when dust, children, pets or a furniture-style display matters more than maximum cube flexibility. Glass doors reduce dust but are not automatically UV-safe or airtight; add film, weatherstripping and suitable lighting.

The tall Milsbo is listed at 28 3/4 × 68 7/8 inches, about $189–$199, with adjustable glass shelves and a locking door. It suits a vertical display of consoles, statues and medium CEs. Door gaps mean it is not airtight, so a small weatherstrip can improve dust control.
BILLY with Oxberg glass doors
A BILLY/Oxberg configuration provides a library appearance, adjustable shelves and locks. Reported prices range from about $100–$130 for some bookcase-and-door configurations to $200–$300 for larger setups. Its deeper configurations can accommodate more PlayStation packaging than a shallow media tower, but lower wood shelves can hide spines unless you add lighting or risers.
IKEA BLALIDEN
BLALIDEN is the current Detolf-class replacement reported at about $99. It is smaller than the discontinued Detolf by roughly 5 inches in height and 3–4 inches on each side. The compact footprint works for standard cases and smaller CEs, but measure a large statue or console carton against the shelf opening first.
What happened to IKEA Detolf?
Detolf was discontinued in January 2024, according to Pando Market. Used examples are commonly reported at about $30–$60; inspect every glass panel for chips and check door alignment. A historical Detolf-with-modifications setup was estimated around $120 plus LEDs, risers, weatherstripping and UV film. It is a used-market project, not a current IKEA new-buy recommendation.

Moducase is the premium option when the goal is a dust-sealed wall of consoles, statues and large collector’s editions. Is a shallow media cabinet enough for PlayStation boxes?
A shallow cabinet is excellent for standard games but not a universal CE solution. The Atlantic Oskar 1080 is reported at about 9 inches deep and capable of holding almost 600 standard game cases with adjustable shelves. Matt Thrower described its advantage this way: “At only nine inches deep it won’t eat into your floor space, yet it can hold almost 600 game cases, nearly separated into different cubbyholes.”
That depth accommodates a 4.8-inch-deep RDR2 box with room to spare, but a 7.75-inch-deep console carton leaves little breathing room and a 6.25-inch Oddworld box may be awkward once you account for door or shelf lips. Standard shelves can also be too deep for ordinary game cases, allowing them to disappear at the back; choose a depth that matches the items rather than assuming deeper is always better.

UV radiation fades printed art, yellows plastics and can weaken adhesives. The preservation target is a shaded, stable room with UV-filtering barriers and minimal heat.

- Use UV-filtering panels: the best glass or acrylic cases are reported to block 97–99% of harmful rays. UF-5 acrylic is stated to block 99% of harmful light spectra and is marketed for museum-style protection.
- Add film to ordinary glass: aftermarket UV film for an IKEA cabinet is reported at about $15. Apply it to clean, dry panels according to the film maker’s instructions and avoid covering moving door hardware.
- Choose LEDs: LEDs produce virtually no UV and little heat. A 3000K–4000K strip gives a neutral display; 5000K and especially 6000K can look harsh. Do not use halogen lamps inside a cabinet.
- Control the room: a target of 60–75°F (15–24°C) and 40–50% relative humidity is reported for collections. Keep boxes away from direct sun, radiators, vents and damp exterior walls.
- Manage dust: no consumer case is completely dust-proof. Weatherstripping on IKEA doors is reported at about $5–$15. Open cubes need regular gentle dusting; enclosed cases still need periodic cleaning.
Keep sealed games vertical when the package is supported. For opened deluxe sets, side storage can dump loose components inside the box, so use dividers or a shallow riser rather than stacking heavy packages on top of one another.

How should I split a collection between shelves and cases?
Use the least expensive protection that solves the actual risk. A practical allocation is:
- Inventory and measure everything. Create a list of box dimensions and mark sealed, opened, statue-containing and console-sized items.
- Build the furniture spine. Put the bulk of irregular CEs in Kallax or a deep, adjustable bookcase. Leave one or two empty cubes for future releases.
- Protect ordinary game cases separately. Use a standard acrylic protector for the PS3, PS4 and PS5 cases that need individual dust and scratch protection.
- Reserve custom acrylic for high-value displays. Prioritize sealed grails, signed or limited packaging, statues and boxes that will be displayed face-out.

Pando Market’s suggested display-spend rule is 10–15% of a collection’s value. That is an author’s budgeting guideline, not a laboratory standard; fragile, irreplaceable packaging may justify more while a frequently rotated open collection may need less.

- Ordering by platform name alone: “PS5 case” can mean a standard disc case or a full console carton. Match the listed interior dimensions to your measured box.
- Assuming every Kallax cube is interchangeable: a 13-inch cube cannot contain an 18-inch-wide console carton.

Should I spend more on a case or on shelving first?
Shelving should come first when most boxes are mixed sizes and currently have nowhere stable to sit. Put the remaining budget toward custom cases for sealed or irreplaceable editions rather than enclosing every standard game case in an expensive box.
