To stop Meta Muse from using your interactions to improve Meta’s AI models, open Settings → Data controls and turn off Help improve our AI models. Meta’s guidance says this control is enabled when Muse is first used and that opting out also covers previous interactions.
That switch is not a delete command. If you want to remove stored Muse material, use the separate Reset Muse control in Data controls. The reset is destructive: the procedural guidance for Muse says it permanently deletes chat history, files and active tasks. Choose the switch for a model-training opt-out, and choose reset only when you are prepared to lose that stored work.
What is the difference between opting out and deleting Muse data?
Muse has two different controls because “do not use my chats to improve AI” and “erase what Muse has stored” are separate requests. Turning off model improvement changes how Meta may use Muse interactions; it does not itself remove conversations, files or tasks. Reset Muse is the broad deletion action.

If your concern is training use, start with the opt-out. If your concern is that old chats or uploaded files remain in Muse, the reset is the relevant control. You may need both actions if you want to stop model-improvement use and remove stored material.

How do I turn off “Help improve our AI models” in Meta Muse?
The setting is in Muse’s Data controls area and is available from either the app or the web interface. The labels below are the reported path; Muse is a new service, so wording or placement can move in a later release.
- Open Muse in the app or in the web interface.
- Open Settings.
- Select Data controls.
- Find Help improve our AI models.
- Turn the switch off. If Muse displays a confirmation prompt, confirm the change.
Meta’s help guidance reports that the control is on when Muse is first used. After changing it, reopen Data controls and make sure the switch still shows the off state. That check confirms the setting shown by Muse; it does not confirm that any stored chats have been deleted.
Does turning off the setting delete my old Muse chats?
No. The opt-out controls model-improvement use, not storage. Meta says the change applies to previous interactions, but that statement describes their use for improving models; it does not say that the old conversations, files or tasks disappear from your Muse account.

- Go to Settings.
- Open Data controls.
- Select Reset Muse.
- Read the confirmation message carefully and confirm only if you intend to lose the stored material covered by the reset.
Before confirming, copy or otherwise preserve anything you still need. The available guidance describes the deletion as permanent and does not provide a recovery window or an undo command. Because Muse is new and interface labels can change, read the current confirmation text rather than relying only on an older description of what the reset includes.
Reset is not a substitute for reviewing connected-app permissions. Deleting Muse’s stored chats, files and tasks does not, on the available information, establish that an external app account has been disconnected or that activity on that service has been removed.

What happens to previous interactions after I opt out?
Meta’s September 2026 Newsroom statement says people can opt out of their interactions being used to train Meta’s AI models. The accompanying help guidance says changing Help improve our AI models also applies to previous interactions.
This is broader than a setting that affects only future chats, but it still should not be read as a deletion promise. Previous interactions can remain part of your stored Muse history until you use the separate reset control, and the opt-out does not erase files or active tasks.
Will Muse still work when model improvement is turned off?
The opt-out is described as a data-use choice, not as an account shutdown. Muse should remain available for its normal functions; the side effect identified by the control is that your interactions are excluded from the stated model-development use.

If you need a clean break from stored work as well, use Reset Muse separately. Resetting is the action that sacrifices stored chats, files and active tasks, so it has a much larger effect on continuity than switching off model improvement.
How do connected-app permissions fit into Muse privacy controls?
Muse can connect to selected apps, and Meta’s official product information says you can choose which apps it connects to, change or disconnect access, review activity, and choose approval options for actions such as sending messages or making purchases.
Those permissions govern what Muse can access or do through another service. They are a separate control surface from both model-improvement opt-out and Reset Muse. If you no longer want an integration, review the connected-app list and disconnect the relevant access; do not assume that turning off model improvement or resetting Muse automatically changes every external permission.
Approval options are especially important for consequential actions. Meta describes Muse as keeping the user in control by allowing permissions, activity review and approval along the way. Use those controls to require a review before an action rather than granting unrestricted authority where the interface allows a choice.
Does Meta use Muse conversations for advertising?
Meta states that “Muse doesn’t share a person’s conversations or the data in their VM with Meta’s ad systems.” That is a separate advertising statement from the model-improvement setting: turning off model improvement is still the control to use when you do not want interactions used to develop or improve Meta AI models.

Meta also says that when Muse browses the internet, it appears as your activity on the site it visits. That browsing activity can therefore have indirect advertising consequences on the visited service, even though Meta says Muse conversations and VM data are not shared with its ad systems.
If you want to limit those consequences, review which connected apps and browsing-related permissions Muse has, and approve actions deliberately. The available information does not describe a separate Muse switch that makes browsing activity invisible to every website it visits.

What should I check if I cannot find the setting?
Muse’s interface may change as the service develops. Work through this checklist without assuming that a missing label means your data has already been deleted.
