There is no general Meta setting established in the cited official guidance that completely stops Meta from using your interactions with Meta AI as personalization signals. Meta said in October 2025 that voice chats and text exchanges with its AI features would help personalize content and advertising recommendations, with the change beginning December 16, 2025 and rolling out in most regions.
You can still reduce other kinds of personalization. Accounts Center may offer an “Activity from other businesses” control for information companies send to Meta; Ads Preferences and Feed controls change what is shown; and deleting an AI conversation is a separate privacy action. None of those controls should be described as a complete opt-out from recommendation use of your Meta AI interactions.
Can you completely stop Meta AI chats from personalizing what you see?
Not through a general opt-out documented in the official Meta announcements cited for this topic. Meta’s October 2025 announcement said interactions with its AI features would become signals for recommendations across its platforms. The announcement described the change as beginning on December 16, 2025 and rolling out in most regions, but it did not identify a switch that prevents all use of those interactions for personalized content or ads.
This is narrower than saying Meta uses every conversation to target an advertisement. Meta said conversations about certain sensitive subjects would not be used to show ads. That statement concerns advertising and does not establish that the same subjects are excluded from every form of content personalization.

The practical answer is therefore to separate the data sources. Adjusting an advertising control, changing your feed ranking, reviewing business-shared activity, or deleting one chat can each address a different part of the system. None should be presented as disabling all personalization based on conversations with Meta AI.
What changed on December 16, 2025?
Meta said its recommendation systems would use interactions with its AI features to improve the content and ads people see. The company’s explanation specifically included both voice chats and text exchanges. Its stated goal was to make recommendations more relevant across Meta platforms, not merely to change the wording of AI answers.
The announcement was a company description of its own practice, not an independent audit. It also described a broad rollout rather than a country-by-country schedule. If your account is in a region where the change has not reached the relevant service, the menus or behavior may differ.
Keep two uses of information distinct:
- Recommendation personalization: Meta AI interactions can be used as signals for content and advertising recommendations under the announced change.
- Personalized AI responses: Meta says the assistant may use information you chose to share on its products, such as profile details and content you liked or engaged with, when composing a response.
The first concerns what Meta recommends around its services. The second concerns how the assistant answers. The cited announcements do not establish a single control that turns off both systems.

How do I review “Activity from other businesses”?
This setting addresses a separate stream of data: information businesses already share with Meta about activity on their websites and apps. Meta said the expanded control can govern use of that information for personalized ads and non-ad content, including AI responses.
- Open a Meta app and go to Accounts Center. The center is available from account or privacy settings, but the surrounding labels can differ among Facebook, Instagram, Messenger, and other Meta apps.
- Look for Activity from other businesses, or a similarly named current version of that control. Meta has not supplied one universal menu sequence in the cited announcement.
- Read the explanation of what business-shared activity is used for. If the option is available, review or change permission for personalization of ads and other content.
- Save the choice if the app presents a confirmation, then revisit the page later to verify that the selected state remains in place.
Meta said this expanded control began rolling out in the United States and some other countries in July 2026, with additional countries to follow. The announcement did not establish availability in every country, so an absent setting may indicate that rollout has not reached your account rather than that you missed a hidden switch.
How can Ads Preferences and Feed controls reduce unwanted recommendations?
These controls change the results you receive, even though they do not establish a complete block on AI-interaction signals.
Review advertising choices
Open the app’s privacy or account settings and select Ads Preferences when it is offered. Review ad topics, advertisers, and other preference categories shown for your account. Remove or reduce topics you do not want influencing ad selection, understanding that the announcement does not say this removes the underlying AI conversation from Meta’s recommendation systems.
Adjust feed ranking
Use the feed’s controls to mark content as less relevant, manage favorites or followed sources when available, and adjust ranking choices offered by the app. These actions influence what the feed prioritizes. They are presentation controls, not a promise that Meta has erased the interaction that may have contributed to a recommendation.

Use both when the problem is mixed
If a topic appears in both ads and ordinary posts, review Ads Preferences and the relevant feed controls separately. A change in one area does not automatically carry over to the other because the controls operate on different recommendation surfaces.
Does deleting a Meta AI chat stop personalization?
No. Deleting a conversation and changing recommendation personalization are separate actions.
Meta’s 2023 privacy article described entering /reset-ai in an AI conversation on Messenger, Instagram, or WhatsApp to delete information shared in that chat. That article does not say the command deletes every copy of data used for recommendations, removes activity already incorporated into ranking systems, or prevents future interactions from being used as signals.
Because the instruction is old, do not assume the command still works everywhere. Check the current Help Center instructions inside the relevant app before relying on it. If the command is available, treat it as a way to clear that conversation’s shared information, not as a global personalization switch.
How does Meta AI personalize an answer differently from a recommendation?
Meta says the assistant may use information you elected to share on Meta products, including profile details and content you liked or engaged with, to personalize responses. That is a response-generation practice: the information helps the assistant tailor what it says in the chat.

The October 2025 announcement concerns a different downstream use. It says interactions with Meta’s AI features can help determine content and advertising recommendations across its platforms. A setting that changes business-shared activity, ad topics, or feed ranking therefore cannot be assumed to erase profile information or conversation context available to the assistant.
When privacy matters, avoid placing unnecessary personal details in an AI prompt. This limits what you voluntarily disclose, but it is not a substitute for an account-level opt-out that the cited guidance does not document.
How do region and rollout dates affect what I see?
Two announcements have different dates and scopes:
- AI-interaction recommendations: announced in October 2025, with the change beginning December 16, 2025 and rolling out in most regions.
- Activity from other businesses: described in a June 2026 announcement as beginning in the United States and some other countries in July 2026, followed by expansion to additional countries.
Neither announcement provides a complete current country list or guarantees that every account has identical labels. Meta can also change the location of a setting between app versions. What should I do if I want the least possible personalization?
- Review Accounts Center for Activity from other businesses and change it if the option is available in your region.
- Open Ads Preferences and remove ad topics or advertiser choices that you no longer want associated with your account.
- Use feed-ranking controls to reduce or deprioritize unwanted content.
- Delete individual AI conversations using the current in-app procedure. Treat the historical
/reset-aiinstruction as unverified until the current Help Center confirms it. - Keep future prompts limited to information needed for the task, especially when a detail could identify you or someone else.
- Recheck after an app update or account change because menu names, rollout status, and available controls can change.
This checklist reduces several identifiable sources of personalization. It does not turn those measures into a claim that Meta no longer uses any AI interaction as a recommendation signal.

Meta reported in 2025 that more than 1 billion people used Meta AI monthly. In its 2026 announcement, the company said it personalizes experiences for “3.5 billion people” who use its apps and services every day. These are company-reported figures: the first is dated to Meta’s October 2025 announcement, and the second refers to daily users of Meta’s apps and services, not necessarily unique Meta AI users.

Meta summarized the purpose of the 2025 change this way: “Whether it’s a voice chat or a text exchange with our AI features, this update will help us improve the recommendations we provide for people across our platforms so they’re more likely to see content they’re actually interested in — and less of the content they’re not.” That explains why ordinary ad or feed controls cannot be treated as a documented deletion or opt-out of the underlying interaction signal.
How should you interpret the available controls?
Think in terms of source and effect. Business-shared activity is not the same as an AI conversation; ad preferences are not the same as feed ranking; and deleting a chat is not the same as changing recommendation logic. Matching each action to the source it actually governs prevents a partial setting from being mistaken for a complete privacy solution.
