To get Google results without AI Overviews, run your search and select Web from the results-page filters. Google says the Web filter shows text-based links without features such as AI Overviews. It changes the view for that search; it does not turn off AI Overviews for future searches.
How to use Google’s Web filter
-
Go to Google and enter your search as usual.
-
On the results page, look through the search filters and select Web. If it is not shown among the visible filters, check the additional filter options.
-
Google will display a text-based links view without features such as AI Overviews. Filter placement can vary by device or results-page layout, so the exact location may differ.
Google Search Help describes this as a way to change the results view after searching, not as a documented permanent, account-wide opt-out. Google Search Help explains AI Overviews and the Web filter.
#1 Best Overall
- Attention-grabbing design meets the latest evolution of the Google Pixel Camera on the new Google Pixel 11 Pro; Gemini Intelligence helps manage details so you can live in the moment[1]; and the phone is available in two sizes
- Unlocked Android phone gives you the flexibility to change carriers and choose your own data plan: Works with Google Fi, Verizon, T-Mobile, AT&T, and other major carriers[2]
- Stay informed without looking at your screen: When your phone is face down, Pixel HiLight gently alerts you with subtle glowing lights when your favorite contacts are calling or you’re talking with Gemini; exclusive to Google Pixel 11 Pro phones
- Magic Capture catches the moment as you live it: With just one tap, Pixel 11 Pro captures video and photos, and automatically edits, crops, and unblurs a curated collection, ready to share – and you get the memory of how it felt to be in the moment
- Two new cameras for more brilliant photos: A larger telephoto sensor captures 30% more light for clear, beautiful photos and videos, even in the dark[3]; Pixel’s longest zoom ever helps you capture details from impressive distances[4]
What the Web filter does—and does not do
Google describes AI Overviews as a core Search feature and says, “Features cannot be turned off.” In that context, Google’s guidance is to use the Web filter after a search for text-based links without features such as AI Overviews. That does not guarantee removal of every other interface element, nor does it make the change permanent.
If your goal is to see conventional links for a particular query, the Web filter is the built-in option Google documents. The official guidance reviewed here does not establish a universal setting that permanently disables core AI Overviews.

- The Actua display with 3,000-nit peak brightness shows up clear as day, even in direct sunlight[5]
- Plan, create, and get more done with help from Gemini, your built-in AI assistant[3]; have it screen spam calls while you focus[6]; chat with Gemini to brainstorm your meal plan[7], or bring your ideas to life with Nano Banana[8]
Web filter vs. the AI in Search Labs setting
| Control | What it affects | How to access it | Persistence and limits |
|---|---|---|---|
| Web filter | The current search’s results view; Google says it shows text-based links without features such as AI Overviews. | After searching, select Web in the results filters. | Changes the view for that search. Google does not document it as an account-wide opt-out. |
| AI in Search (Labs) | Experimental AI in Search features offered through Labs, not core AI Overviews. | Sign in to your Google account with Incognito mode off; open a new tab, then choose Labs > Manage and switch off AI in Search. | Controls the Labs experiment. It is not a switch to disable core AI Overviews. |
Google’s instructions for AI Overviews and Search Labs distinguish the experimental Labs setting from core Search features. Turning off the Labs control should not be treated as a way to remove AI Overviews.
When an AI Overview appears, check its claims
Google warns that AI Overviews can make mistakes and may provide inaccurate or offensive information. For important questions, check more than one source, open the supporting web links, and compare the overview with other Search results.
What Google says is changing in AI Search
In a May 6, 2026 product update, Google described additions to AI Mode and AI Overviews, including suggested articles, links from news subscriptions, previews of public discussion perspectives, more inline links, and desktop website previews. These are changes Google described for its own products; they do not change the distinction between the Web results filter and a permanent opt-out.
