Use LinkedIn’s Featured section as a small proof portfolio on your personal profile. Put the project or client case study that best demonstrates your value first, then add supporting evidence such as a published LinkedIn post or article, an external project page, a presentation, an image, a document, or a video. On desktop, go to Me → View Profile → Add profile section → Recommended → Add Featured; on mobile, use Profile photo → View profile → Add section → Recommended → Add featured.
What the Featured section is—and what it is not
LinkedIn describes Featured as a place to showcase samples of your work to people who view your profile. For a side project or client engagement, that makes it a proof portfolio attached to your identity, rather than a chronological activity feed.
The section is curated by you. You choose which artifacts represent your work, write the titles and descriptions, and decide their order. A visitor can then move from a concise project card to the evidence behind it: a case-study page, a published explanation, a visual artifact, or a demonstration.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Featured is different from the Activity section. LinkedIn’s Activity area covers the past 45 days according to its 2026 Help FAQ, while Featured remains until you remove, edit, or reorder the items. A strong post can disappear from recent activity without disappearing from your selected portfolio.

Decide what your first item should prove
The first card should answer the visitor’s immediate questions: what did you do, in what role, and why does it matter? Do not lead with a general announcement if you have a concrete artifact or outcome.
For a side project
Lead with a project page or case-study link when one exists. A descriptive title can combine the work, your role, and the result, such as Built a customer-support analytics dashboard — product design and implementation. The visitor should understand the project before opening the link.
Follow the project page with a short LinkedIn post or authored article that explains the problem, your contribution, key decisions, and the measurable or observable result. Add one visual proof item—such as a presentation, screenshot set, diagram, or demo video—so the project is understandable even before someone clicks through.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFor client work
Feature a public case-study page, an approved testimonial, a sanitized presentation, or a demo video only when you have permission to share it. State your role precisely: research lead, UX designer, full-stack developer, or another accurate description.
Protect confidential information by removing private metrics, customer data, internal screenshots, credentials, and unreleased plans. If the client asset is visible only to connections or another restricted audience, that restriction remains in Featured. Put the clearest approved outcome or artifact first, then add a post or article describing your process.
Choose the right evidence format
LinkedIn supports several Featured formats. Select a mix that gives visitors both a clear entry point and enough evidence to trust the claim.
| Evidence type | What the visitor does | Best use |
|---|---|---|
| External website link | Visits a project, portfolio, or case-study page | Lead item for a complete project narrative or public client case study |
| Published LinkedIn post | Reads your explanation in LinkedIn | Show the problem, decisions, contribution, and result in a concise format |
| Published LinkedIn article | Reads a longer explanation in LinkedIn | Document a process, technical approach, or lessons learned in depth |
| Image | Views a visual directly | Show a polished interface, diagram, before-and-after, or key screenshot |
| Document | Opens or downloads a file | Share a sanitized report, one-page case study, or technical brief |
| Presentation | Steps through a slide deck | Explain a project from problem through outcome with structured visuals |
| Video | Watches a demonstration | Show a working prototype, product walkthrough, or client-approved result |
A post or article must already be authored and published before it can be selected as Featured. Drafts and unpublished material are not eligible through the normal selection flow.

Build a compact portfolio sequence
There is no need to add every artifact you have made. Use a sequence in which each item has a distinct job.
- Lead proof: a case-study page, approved client artifact, or project link that states the work and outcome.
- Context: a published post or article explaining the problem, your decisions, and your individual contribution.
- Visual confirmation: one image, presentation, document, or video that lets a visitor see the work.
- Optional supporting proof: a second artifact only when it adds information rather than repeating the first three.
This order works for both independent projects and paid engagements. Replace the generic labels with the language your target reader understands: “prototype,” “migration,” “campaign,” “dashboard,” or another concrete deliverable.
Write titles that stand alone
A Featured card may be seen before its full description, so title it as if the visitor has no surrounding context. Include the project name or deliverable, your role, and a result or purpose when space allows. “Mobile app redesign — UX research and interaction design” is more useful than “My latest project.”
Describe your contribution, not only the team’s
Use the description to separate your work from the organization’s overall achievement. Explain what you owned, which decisions you made, and what changed because of the work. For client projects, identify the client only when you are authorized to do so.
How to add an item on desktop
LinkedIn’s desktop workflow uses the profile introduction area.
- Click Me at the top of LinkedIn.
- Select View Profile.
- In the introduction area, click Add profile section.
- Open Recommended.
- Select Add Featured.
- In the Featured section, click the Add icon.
- Choose the work-sample type: a post, article, external link, image, document, presentation, or video.
- Follow the prompts for that format, enter or confirm the title and description, and finish with Save or Done.
If you do not see the expected item, confirm that the post or article has already been published and that you are adding it from the profile’s Featured controls rather than from a draft editor.
How to add an item on mobile
- Tap your profile photo.
- Choose View profile.
- Tap Add section.
- Choose Recommended.
- Select Add featured.
- Choose the work-sample type and complete the prompts.
- Save the item.
Labels and button placement can vary slightly between LinkedIn app versions, but the path remains the profile, an add-section control, Recommended, and Add featured.

Add a published post or article from its own menu
Eligible posts and articles can also be featured from the content itself after publication. Open the post or article, use its More menu, and choose the option to feature it on your profile when available. This route is useful when you have just published an explanation and want to add it without returning to the profile editor.
Featuring the item does not create a new copy of the post or article. Its existing visibility settings continue to govern who can read it.
Reorder and maintain the section
Newly featured content appears first by default. Check the order after every addition instead of assuming the newest item is the strongest one.
Reorder items
Open the Featured section’s edit control and move the cards into the order you want. LinkedIn says you need at least two items before reordering is available. Put the evidence that best communicates your current value first; move older or supporting material lower.
Edit a title or description
Use the same edit control to correct a role, clarify an outcome, or update wording when the project evolves. A title should remain accurate even if the visitor sees it months after publication.
Remove an item without deleting the source
Choose Remove from Featured when you want to stop highlighting an item but retain the underlying content where LinkedIn allows that distinction. This is appropriate when a project is no longer central, a link has changed, or a client permission has ended.
Delete the underlying content
Choose the delete action only when you intend to remove the content itself. Removing a card from Featured and deleting its source are separate decisions; verify which command the interface presents before confirming.

Visibility: who can actually see your proof?
Featured does not override privacy controls. LinkedIn says each item follows the visibility settings on your profile or on the underlying post. A post limited to connections remains limited to connections when it is featured.
The section is not discoverable through LinkedIn search, and viewers must be logged in to LinkedIn to view Featured content. Someone who finds your name through a public web search may therefore be unable to open the card or its restricted source.
For work intended to reach people outside your network, keep a genuinely public case-study or portfolio page available and use Featured as the profile-based entry point. For sensitive client work, choose a restricted artifact only when the intended audience can authenticate and has permission.
Client-work safeguards before you publish
- Get written approval: confirm that the client permits the named company, screenshots, metrics, testimonial, or recording to be shown.
- Sanitize the artifact: remove personal data, account identifiers, private URLs, credentials, internal comments, and unreleased information.
- Use an accurate role: distinguish your own contribution from work delivered by a larger team or agency.
- Check the audience: verify the source item’s visibility before featuring it; Featured inherits that setting.
- Set a review date: revisit the card if the approval expires, the client changes its public position, or the link is no longer current.
How many items should you add?
LinkedIn’s 2026 Help FAQ says the section can contain unlimited items, while only 400 are displayed. That technical ceiling is not a reason to upload everything you have made. Visitors need a sequence they can scan, and every additional card competes with the first item for attention.
Keep the visible set focused on your strongest, most relevant proof. Combine a lead case study, a concise explanation, and one visual when that combination tells the story. Add more only when each item demonstrates a different capability, audience, or outcome.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Compare candidates before you feature them
When several projects compete for the same position, score each candidate on four practical axes:
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →- Evidence type: Is it a post, article, external link, image, document, presentation, or video?
- Visitor action: Will the person read, watch, view, download, or visit another page?
- Proof strength: Does it show a concrete result or artifact, or is it only an announcement?
- Access level: Can the intended audience open it, or is it restricted by the source item’s settings?
Prefer the candidate with the clearest result and the lowest access friction. A polished artifact that most visitors cannot open may be less useful as the lead item than a public case-study page with a modest but verifiable outcome.

Common mistakes and fixes
Adding an unpublished post
Symptom: the post or article does not appear in the picker. Fix: publish it first, then reopen Add Featured or use the content’s More menu.
Putting the newest item first automatically
Symptom: a minor announcement displaces your strongest project. Fix: open the edit control and reorder the cards; newly featured items are first by default.
Using a vague title
Symptom: a visitor cannot tell what the card contains without opening it. Fix: name the deliverable, your role, and the purpose or result.
Recommended Free Tools
Assuming Featured makes private work public
Symptom: a colleague cannot view the artifact. Fix: inspect the source item’s visibility and share a public, approved version when broad reach is required.
Deleting when you meant to unfeature
Symptom: the original post, file, or link disappears. Fix: use Remove from Featured for curation; reserve Delete for removing the underlying content.
Leaving stale client work in place
Symptom: a link is broken or an approval is no longer valid. Fix: review Featured whenever a client permission expires, a project page changes, or a stronger project replaces the old lead.
Two practical configurations
Independent product or engineering project
- Add the public project or case-study page as the lead item.
- Add a published post explaining the problem, architecture or design decisions, your contribution, and the result.
- Add a short demo video or a presentation with screenshots.
- Reorder so the case-study page remains first after all three items are saved.
Confidential client engagement
- Confirm which name, outcome, testimonial, and visuals the client has approved.
- Add the approved case-study page or sanitized presentation.
- Write a post or article that explains your process without exposing restricted information.
- Check the source visibility and remove the item promptly if permission ends.
A maintenance checklist
- Is the first card your strongest current proof?
- Does every title identify the work and your role?
- Are posts and articles already published?
- Do links, files, and videos still open?
- Does each client artifact have current permission?
- Does the source visibility match the audience you intend to reach?
- Have you removed duplicates and outdated announcements?
- After adding an item, did you deliberately reorder the section?
Used this way, Featured turns a profile visit into a guided evidence trail: a visitor sees the strongest project first, understands your contribution, and can choose the depth of proof—read, watch, view, download, or visit—without searching through your entire activity history.
