To share one place, open it in Google Maps on a computer and use its Share control. To share a saved collection, open the list and send a link to view it; choose the separate collaboration option if the recipient should be able to edit it. The steps and labels differ between desktop, Android, and iPhone or iPad.
Choose what to share and what the recipient can do
Google Maps has separate workflows for an individual location and a saved list. A viewing link lets someone see a list; an invitation to collaborate lets them contribute. Choose the option that matches the access you intend to give.
| What you are sharing | Recipient’s intended access | Use |
|---|---|---|
| One place or map location | Open the location | Use the place’s Share control on a computer, or the map-sharing option described below. |
| Saved list | View only | Send a link to view the list; on mobile, use Share or Share list. |
| Saved list | Contribute or edit | Use Invite to edit on desktop or Invite collaborators in the mobile apps. |
Share a saved list from a computer
- Open Google Maps and select Menu > Saved.
- Select More beside the list you want to share.
- Choose Send a link to view, then share the link using an offered app or another method.
- To change who can find the list, open Sharing options. Private means only the owner can find it; Shared means anyone with the link can find it.
- To let someone edit, select Invite to edit, get the link, and send it to them.
To remove editing access later, open Sharing options and turn off Let others edit your list. Google’s desktop instructions say starred places cannot be shared through this list-sharing workflow. Google Maps Help: Create a list of places on a computer.
Share a saved list on Android
- Open Google Maps and tap You > Your lists.
- Open the list, then tap Share to send a viewing link.
- If the recipient should contribute, tap Invite collaborators instead.
- To stop others editing, open the list’s Sharing options and turn off Let others edit this list.

Share one place or map location
On a computer
Search for the place in Google Maps or select it on the map, then use the place’s Share control to copy a link or share through an offered app. To share a map location, Google also documents Menu > Share or embed map. These share a location or map, not a saved list.
If your goal is to share saved locations, Google says Maps cannot share a map containing saved locations as a map. Share the saved list instead. Google Maps Help: Share a map or location and Google Maps Help: Create a list of places.
On Android or iPhone and iPad
Google’s cited instructions do not establish the current tap-by-tap process for sharing one individual place in either mobile app. Open the place card and check its available controls rather than relying on desktop labels.
Consider list visibility and participant privacy
A shared list’s link can be used by anyone who has it to find the list, so share it only with people you intend to give access to. Google also says list viewers may see the names and profile pictures of people who joined, along with who added or edited places and notes. See Google’s Android and iPhone and iPad list guidance.
Google Maps Help also states that saved lists are limited to 3,000 entries; the retrieved help page does not state a publication date for that limit. Google Maps Help: Create a list of places.
