You can use YouTube Music on a compatible Garmin Fenix, but it works as an offline player: download playlists or podcast episodes to the watch over Wi-Fi, then listen through Bluetooth headphones without your phone. You’ll need a YouTube Music Premium or YouTube Premium subscription, a compatible Fenix model, and a Google account that isn’t a Brand Account.
What do I need before setting up YouTube Music?
Check these requirements before installing the app. The exact Fenix variant matters: compatibility can differ between models and can change, so confirm your watch in the Connect IQ Store’s YouTube Music listing under Compatible Devices.
- A compatible Fenix: Verify the exact model and variant in the listing, not just the Fenix family name.
- A subscription: YouTube Music Premium or YouTube Premium is required.
- A supported account: Sign in with the YouTube account you want to use. Brand Accounts are not compatible.
- A phone running Garmin Connect: Keep the watch paired to the phone over Bluetooth, enable all Garmin Connect notifications, and leave Garmin Connect open on its Home screen while linking the account.
- Wi-Fi and Bluetooth headphones: Wi-Fi is needed to download content to the watch; compatible Bluetooth headphones or earbuds are needed for listening from the watch.
Garmin announced the integration on June 12, 2024, describing it as a way to add playlists and podcasts to a watch. Garmin also cited a catalog of more than 100 million songs at that time. The catalog figure describes YouTube Music broadly, not a guarantee that every track is downloadable or available on every watch.
How do I install and link YouTube Music on a Fenix?
Install the Connect IQ app first, then start linking from the watch. The sign-in step uses a code shown on the Fenix and a notification in Garmin Connect.

- Check the model. Open the Connect IQ Store, search for YouTube Music, and confirm your exact Fenix variant appears under Compatible Devices.
- Install the app. In the Connect IQ mobile app, search for YouTube Music, select it, tap Install, approve the requested permissions, and let the next watch sync complete.
- Open the music provider on the watch. On Fenix models with the general provider menu, go to Watch settings > Music > Music Providers > YouTube Music. Some models expose providers through the music controls instead, so the route can vary.
- Start sign-in in Garmin Connect. When the watch displays a code, open the Garmin Connect notification on your phone and enter that code.
- Choose and authorize the account. Sign in to YouTube Music, select the account you intend to use, and accept the Connect IQ terms. Do not select a Brand Account; it is not supported.
- Choose content to sync. In the watch app, open Music, Podcasts, or Library, select a playlist or podcast, and allow synchronization to finish.
If no sign-in notification appears, first check that Garmin Connect notifications are enabled, the phone and watch remain paired over Bluetooth, and Garmin Connect is open on its Home screen. If that still does not work, use Google device connect in a phone browser and enter the code shown on the watch.
How do I download music and listen without my phone?
YouTube Music on Garmin is a download-and-play experience, not a streaming service. Save the playlist or podcast episode to the watch while it has Wi-Fi access; once the download is complete, pair Bluetooth headphones with the watch and you can leave your phone behind.

- Connect the watch to Wi-Fi and keep it near the router.
- Connect the watch to power while the download and synchronization run.
- In YouTube Music on the watch, choose Music, Podcasts, or Library, then select the playlist or podcast to download.
- Wait for syncing to finish before leaving Wi-Fi. A selected item is not ready for offline listening until its download has completed.
- Pair compatible Bluetooth headphones or earbuds with the watch and play the downloaded content.
YouTube Music Help states that streaming is unavailable on Garmin smartwatches, so a phone connection or a cellular connection does not replace downloading content to the watch first. Garmin’s announcement calls the feature phone-free listening, but that applies after the content has been downloaded.

The app does not appear in Connect IQ or will not install
- Recheck the Compatible Devices list for the exact Fenix model and variant. A listing for another Fenix does not establish support for yours.
- Make sure the watch is paired to the phone over Bluetooth and that the watch can access Wi-Fi for the required setup and sync.
- After tapping Install in the Connect IQ mobile app, allow the next watch sync to finish; installation may not happen immediately.
The sign-in prompt or code does not arrive
- Enable all Garmin Connect notifications and leave Garmin Connect open on its Home screen.
- Confirm the phone and watch are still connected over Bluetooth, then reopen the provider on the watch.
- If the notification route still fails, use Google device connect in a phone browser and enter the code displayed on the watch.
The library is empty or shows the wrong account
Log out of YouTube Music on the watch and sign in again, selecting the intended YouTube account. A Brand Account cannot be used for this integration.
Downloads fail or some songs are missing
- Use a stable Wi-Fi connection, move closer to the access point, and connect the watch to power while syncing.
- Restart the watch if a download remains stuck.
- Some content or audio formats may be unsupported, which can prevent particular songs from appearing even when other items sync.
What should I expect from the Garmin version?
The key practical distinction is that this feature stores selected content on the watch for offline playback; it is not a way to stream the full service from your wrist. Garmin’s June 2024 announcement says subscribers can add playlists and podcasts, while YouTube Music Help specifies that content must be downloaded before listening on Garmin.

Can I download any YouTube Music song to the watch?
No universal guarantee is established: Garmin’s troubleshooting guidance notes that unsupported content or audio formats can keep some songs from appearing. If one item is missing while others sync, test another playlist or episode to distinguish a content-specific issue from a general connection problem.
