Choose a display mode for what you’re reading
TCL provides three NXTPAPER modes. Its product page describes the intended uses below; your preferred appearance may differ, so compare them using the same page or passage. [TCL NXTPAPER 14 product page]

TCL’s product page says Ink Paper “Turns into an e-reader-like screen to cram in lengthy documents, articles, and books with enhanced e-ink-like viewing mode.” This is the manufacturer’s description; the reviewed sources do not establish independent measurements of comfort differences between modes.
Switch modes with the NXTPAPER key or Settings
- Try the NXTPAPER key. TCL describes the dedicated key as a quick way to switch display modes.
- Or open Settings and look for NXTPAPER zone. In the manual, this is the setting area for changing the mode. TCL’s manual labels the control “Touch to change the NXTPAPER mode.” [TCL NXTPAPER 14 English user manual]
- Compare on the same content. Switch between modes while viewing the same page, then keep the one that suits both the material and your preference.
The exact interface can vary with software release. If the labels differ, search Settings for “NXTPAPER zone” or “Display.”

Adjust display settings for your reading session
Brightness
In Display settings, adjust screen brightness until text is easy for you to read in the room’s current lighting. There is no official numerical brightness target in the reviewed TCL material. TCL also describes automatic adjustments to brightness and color temperature based on lighting and time of day; availability and behavior may depend on the installed software.
Eye comfort and dark mode
Try Eye comfort mode or dark mode in Display settings, then compare the result with your reading app’s own page theme. An app may handle its page colors differently from the system, and the manual does not establish that every app combines these options with every NXTPAPER mode in the same way.
Font size and screen timeout
Increase font size if the text is difficult to read without changing the reading mode. Adjust sleep time if the screen turns off before you finish a passage. Both controls are listed in Display settings in TCL’s manual.
Eye-care reminders
TCL says the tablet can provide reminders to rest your eyes. Leave them enabled if you find them useful, but treat them as prompts: they are not evidence of a health outcome or a substitute for taking breaks.
What to know about software and the device
The NXTPAPER 14 is listed by TCL North America as model 9491G, with a 14.3-inch display at 2400 × 1600 resolution and Android 14 in the listed configuration. The US/Canada package listing includes a stylus and flip case; bundles can vary by market. These details identify the tablet but are not prerequisites for changing reading settings.
