To set up Meta AI on Ray-Ban Meta glasses, install the Meta AI app on a compatible iPhone or Android phone, pair the glasses through that app, sign in with your existing Meta account, and approve the permissions the app requests. Keep the glasses in their charging case during setup, install any offered updates, and review privacy and notification settings before using them. What do I need before setting up Meta AI?
Gather the glasses, their charging case, a compatible phone, a Meta account and the messaging apps you intend to use. The Meta AI app is required for pairing and management; installing only a generic Bluetooth utility or a social app is not enough.
- Glasses and case: Charge the glasses in the supplied case. The product package includes a charging case, but a USB-C charging cable is not included.
- Phone: The product information for the shown model lists iOS 15.2 or later and Android 10 as the minimum Android version. Requirements can change, so use the current compatibility screen in the Meta AI app as the final check.
- Accounts: Sign in with an existing Meta account. Meta says a separate Meta AI account is not required.
- Connectivity: Keep Bluetooth enabled and keep the phone close to the glasses while pairing. You will also need internet access for app sign-in, updates and many AI or communication functions.
- Communication apps: Install and sign in to the service you want to use for calls or messages. Depending on the feature, the supported choices can include WhatsApp, Facebook, Instagram or the phone’s native messaging app.
Have your phone’s passcode available. iOS and Android may ask you to authenticate before granting access to contacts, notifications or other sensitive data.
How do I install the Meta AI app?
- Open your phone’s official app store and search for the Meta AI app.
- Install the current release, then open it while the glasses are charged and nearby.
- Sign in with your existing Meta account when prompted. If you use more than one Meta account, choose the account you want associated with these glasses.
- Allow the app to use Bluetooth and any other access it requests for setup. You can review or change permissions later in the phone’s settings.
Meta’s developer FAQ says the Meta AI app must be used to pair AI glasses. If the app does not recognize the glasses, confirm that you installed the official Meta AI app, that Bluetooth is on, and that the glasses are powered and close to the phone.

How do I pair Ray-Ban Meta glasses with my phone?
The app controls the pairing process. There is no single screen sequence that is identical on every phone, because prompts vary by app release and by iOS or Android permission controls.
- Put the glasses in their case, make sure the case and glasses have charge, then remove the glasses or open the case as the app instructs.
- Open Meta AI and choose the option to add, set up or pair new glasses.
- When the phone displays a Bluetooth pairing request, confirm it. Keep the phone within a short distance until the app reports that pairing is complete.
- Approve the requested permissions. Bluetooth is needed for the connection; microphone and camera access support voice and camera features; notifications and contacts support caller or recipient selection; location access may be requested by the phone or app during setup.
- Complete any account, safety or privacy screens, then wait for the app to check for firmware or app updates.
If a permission prompt is dismissed, pairing may finish but a related feature can remain unavailable. Open the phone’s app-permission page, select Meta AI, and enable only the access you are comfortable granting; the app will explain which functions may be limited.
What should I do if pairing stops halfway?
- Return the glasses to the case briefly, close and reopen Meta AI, and try the add-glasses flow again.
- Check that the phone is using the required operating-system version and that Meta AI is up to date.
- Remove an incomplete Bluetooth entry for the glasses from the phone’s Bluetooth settings, then start pairing again from Meta AI rather than from the Bluetooth menu alone.
- Move away from other phones that may already be trying to pair with the glasses.
- If the app reports that the model or region is unsupported, use the app’s compatibility information. A successful Bluetooth connection by itself does not guarantee that Meta AI features are available.
Which permissions should I grant?
Granting access is a feature decision, not a requirement to hand over every category of personal data. During setup, Meta AI can request Bluetooth, microphone, camera, notifications, contacts and location permissions. Read each system prompt and decide whether the benefit matches your use.

Permission labels differ between iOS and Android. If you change a decision later, use the operating system’s app settings instead of repeatedly reinstalling the app.
How do I update the glasses and app?
After pairing, open Meta AI and accept updates offered for the app or glasses. Keep the glasses in the case, leave the phone nearby and avoid interrupting the process. Firmware and app releases can change menus, permissions and feature availability, so an instruction that applied to an earlier release may not match your screen.
Before daily use, browse the app’s privacy, voice, camera and notification controls. Check which account is signed in and which communication app is connected. This short review prevents a voice command from using an unintended account or recipient.
How do I activate Meta AI with “Hey Meta”?
Meta’s official beginner guide gives the pattern: say “Hey Meta”, followed by a simple instruction. Speak at a normal volume and keep the request short while you learn what is available on your model and in your region.

Hey Meta, what am I looking at?— a camera-related question, subject to camera permission and feature availability.Hey Meta, remind me to call Sam.— a reminder request; the available reminder behavior can depend on the connected phone and software.Hey Meta, send a message to Alex.— a messaging request that requires a supported messaging app, contacts access when needed and a confirmation step.
Use a confirmation before a message or call is sent. Verify the person’s name and the spoken content, particularly when contacts have similar names or when the app asks you to choose between services.
What if the wake phrase does not work?
- Confirm the glasses are powered, paired and close enough to the phone for the connected function.
- Check that Meta AI still has microphone permission and that the phone has not disabled Bluetooth in the background.
- Open the app to see whether an update, sign-in request or permission warning is waiting.
- Try a short request after saying the wake phrase clearly. If the feature is not offered in your country, language or software version, the app may not respond with the same capabilities shown in another region.
How can I make phone calls from the glasses?
Ray-Ban Meta documentation describes hands-free phone calls. The glasses use the paired phone and a supported communication service, so set up the service on the phone first.
- Install or update the calling or messaging app you want to use, then sign in on the phone.
- In Meta AI, allow notifications and contacts if you want spoken names and incoming-call information.
- Say a call request such as
Hey Meta, call Alex, or use the communication controls shown in the app. - Listen for the recipient confirmation and confirm before the call is placed. If more than one contact or service matches, choose the intended one on the phone or through the prompt provided.
- End the call with the glasses’ available voice control or the app’s control. The exact wording and controls can change with the app version.
Whether a call can be routed through WhatsApp, Facebook, Instagram or the native phone service depends on the feature, phone, model, country and current software. If a service is not offered in the app’s communication controls, use the phone directly.

How do I send text or voice messages?
Hands-free text and voice messaging are supported for certain services. Ray-Ban Meta documentation identifies WhatsApp, Facebook, Instagram and/or the native messaging app as requirements for particular features, rather than promising that every service works in every configuration.
- Install and sign in to the messaging service on the paired phone.
- Give Meta AI notification and contacts access if you want it to identify incoming messages or match a spoken recipient.
- Say the wake phrase and request a message, for example,
Hey Meta, send a message to Alex. - Speak the message slowly. Wait for the glasses or phone to repeat or display the recipient and content.
- Confirm only after checking both. If the recipient or wording is wrong, cancel and start again rather than relying on an automatic correction.
Voice messages and typed messages may appear as different options in the app. Choose the format that the recipient’s service supports, and remember that the phone remains the account and network connection behind the action.
Can I make video calls or share media?
Ray-Ban Meta product documentation describes video calls and media sharing, but availability is conditional. The app, phone, glasses model, country and current software version can each affect whether a control appears.
To test the feature, update Meta AI and the relevant messaging app, confirm camera, microphone and notification permissions, then look for the communication or media-sharing control in Meta AI. Start with a contact who is available to answer, and confirm which camera and account the call will use before you begin.

Meta also warns that some Meta AI capabilities are available only in selected countries and languages. A compatible operating system is therefore necessary but not sufficient for every feature.
How do I connect with friends safely?
Set up one communication service at a time and test it with a willing contact. This makes it easier to identify whether a problem comes from the glasses, Meta AI, the phone or the messaging service.

- Review contacts and notification access in Meta AI. If you do not want the app to read contacts, plan to select recipients manually on the phone.
- Make a short test call or send a low-sensitivity test message.
- Confirm the recipient, message text and account before sending.
- Tell the person when a video call or camera-based feature is active. Follow local recording and privacy rules, especially around people who have not agreed to be recorded.
Keep the glasses charged before a long conversation. The case is the charging accessory supplied with the glasses; obtain a compatible USB-C charging cable separately if your setup needs one.

The glasses appear in Bluetooth but not in Meta AI
Remove the incomplete Bluetooth entry, restart the app and begin again from Meta AI’s add-glasses flow. Pairing from the operating system alone does not replace the app-based setup required for AI glasses.
Calls work but voice messages do not
Check that the messaging app is installed and signed in, then verify microphone, contacts and notification permissions. Calls and messages can use different integrations, so success with one does not establish that every communication type is enabled.
The app cannot find a friend by name
Check the spelling and duplicate entries in the phone’s contacts, then verify contacts access. If several services or people match, choose the intended recipient explicitly rather than allowing an ambiguous voice match.

Check the glasses model, phone operating system, Meta AI version, language and country. Meta states that some AI features are limited to selected countries and languages, and the product documentation makes similar qualifications for communication features.

The glasses stop responding after an update
Keep the glasses in the case, reopen Meta AI and check for a pending sign-in or permission request. Confirm that Bluetooth is enabled and that the app still lists the glasses as connected before attempting another call or message.
How should I handle privacy and account control?
Ray-Ban Meta glasses combine microphones, cameras, notifications, contacts and a Meta account, so decide in advance which functions you actually need. Enable microphone and camera access when you want voice or camera features, but review notification and contacts access separately if you prefer fewer data flows.
- Use the account you intend to keep associated with the glasses; switching accounts can change which contacts and services are available.
