To set up Google Fitbit Air, connect it to its charger, install or open the Google Health app, sign in with a Google Account, and add the tracker in the app. Keep it close to your phone with Bluetooth enabled; it will sync automatically and you can request a sync manually in Google Health.

Before you start

  • Charge the tracker: Connect Fitbit Air to its charging cable before setup. The box includes the tracker, wristband, and charging cable. See Google’s Fitbit Air getting-started guide.
  • Check your phone: Google lists Android 11.0 or newer and iOS 16.4 or newer as the minimum versions for Fitbit Air. A Google Account is required. Confirm current requirements on the Google Store Fitbit Air page.
  • Use Google Health: Fitbit Air setup and syncing use the Google Health app. If the Fitbit app is already installed, Google says you do not need to reinstall Google Health.

How to set up Fitbit Air

  1. Connect Fitbit Air to its charging cable.
  2. Install or open the Google Health app on your phone. Sign in with your Google Account, or create an account in the app if you are new.
  3. In Google Health, open Connections, then tap Add device.
  4. Select Fitbit Air and follow the on-screen instructions. Keep the tracker near the phone while pairing.

Google’s general Fitbit setup instructions give the Connections > Add device route. If a label differs in your version of the app, follow the current on-screen prompts. Fitbit Air is the screenless tracker, not Aria Air, which is a smart scale.

How Fitbit Air syncs with your phone

Fitbit trackers sync over Bluetooth Low Energy. Keep Fitbit Air near your phone and Bluetooth enabled. Google says, “Data automatically syncs to the Google Health app throughout the day.” Syncing also occurs when you open Google Health while the tracker is nearby. See Google’s Fitbit syncing instructions.

Request a manual sync

  1. Bring Fitbit Air close to your phone and open Google Health.
  2. On the Today tab, pull down to refresh, or go to Connections > Sync.
  3. To check when it last synced, open Connections and select Fitbit Air. Google says the last-sync timestamp appears beneath the device image.

If Fitbit Air will not set up or sync

Try these basic checks first. Google’s sync troubleshooting guide recommends these steps, but they cannot guarantee a fix for every problem.

  • If the tracker seems connected but the data is stale, request a manual sync and check the last-sync timestamp under Connections > Fitbit Air.

Do not remove Fitbit Air from your account as an early troubleshooting step: Google warns that removing a Fitbit device deletes data that has not synced. Check the last-sync time and request a manual sync first.
