What FramePort does—and what you need
FramePort transfers user-supplied game files to Steam Frame, applies game-specific compatibility patches and can add shortcuts to the headset’s Steam Library. Its project README says: “FramePort explicitly does NOT download, share, or unlock games.” You need to provide legally obtained game files yourself. Read the FramePort project README.
Valve describes Steam Frame as a standalone SteamOS headset that supports SteamVR, OpenXR and several software execution models, including Android-based APKs. That makes Android applications relevant to the platform, but it does not mean every Quest title will work or that Valve endorses FramePort. Valve’s Steam Frame documentation.
- A computer running a desktop operating system supported by FramePort’s current guide.
- Steam Frame and the computer connected to the same network for initial setup.
- Legally obtained game files for titles you want to try.
- A Bluetooth or USB keyboard is optional; the headset’s on-screen keyboard can enter the command.
Set up FramePort
- Download and extract FramePort. Get the desktop archive for your computer from the project’s latest release. The current installation guide lists Windows 10/11 x64, macOS Apple Silicon, Linux x64 and ARM64 builds, as well as a command-line distribution. Supported builds can change, so check the live FramePort installation guide.
- Connect both devices to the same network. Open FramePort on the computer, go to Steam Frame and select Show setup command. Keep the app open while completing the first-time connection.
- Open Konsole on Steam Frame. In the headset, open the SteamVR dashboard and choose Launch a program → Desktop. From the desktop, open the app menu and choose System → Konsole.
- Run the displayed command. Enter the exact command shown in FramePort. A separate keyboard is not required if you use the headset’s on-screen keyboard. The project guide says Steam restarts once during setup; accept the Lepton installation prompt if Steam displays it. FramePort says the headset should connect automatically within about a minute.
- Add your game files. In FramePort, add or scan a folder containing your own game backups. The app does not provide the games.
- Install and launch a title. Select a game in FramePort and choose Install on Frame. Then find and launch it from the Steam Library in the headset.
Understand the setup changes
According to FramePort’s setup documentation, the first-time command uses Valve’s helper to enable Developer Mode, adds FramePort’s SSH key and may prompt you to install Lepton. The command is served locally by the desktop app over your network; the project says the headset contacts the computer to download the setup script only during this initial setup. These are changes made by an independent utility, not an official Valve FramePort workflow. Review the project’s current setup and removal documentation before proceeding. It also describes how to disable Developer Mode, remove the key and uninstall FramePort.

Check whether a Quest game works
Compatibility is title-specific. FramePort describes Quest APK support as using OVRPort translation and patches for Steam Frame’s Lepton runtime. Its catalog categorizes tested games as working, working with known issues or not running. For example, on the catalog retrieved October 4, 2026, Asgard’s Wrath 2 and Batman: Arkham Shadow were marked working; Arcsmith and Assassin’s Creed Nexus were marked working with issues; Espire 1: VR Operative (Quest Edition) and Journey of the Gods were marked not running. Those are FramePort-maintained results, not Valve certifications or independent test results. Check the current tested-games catalog for changes before installing.
An unlisted game may still work, but FramePort may only suggest patches for it. The project notes that automated launch tests can establish whether a title starts, while visual behavior must be checked in the headset. Starting successfully is not proof that graphics, controls or the overall experience work correctly.

Choose the right route for your game

Troubleshoot the first connection
- FramePort does not connect: Confirm the computer and headset are on the same network, FramePort is still open, and you entered the current command shown under Steam Frame → Show setup command.
- The setup prompt or restart differs: Follow the current on-screen prompt and consult the project’s setup documentation; the process may change between versions.
- A title installs but does not work properly: Look up that exact title in the tested-games catalog. A launch test alone does not confirm correct visuals or controls.
- You want to undo setup: Use FramePort’s documented steps to disable Developer Mode, remove its SSH key and uninstall the app rather than assuming that closing the desktop utility reverses headset changes.
